2 Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation Location ~ Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation is located on the northwest corner of Hancock County, east of Marion County (Indianapolis) and just south of Hamilton County (Fishers). The MVCSC is comprised of Vernon Township and Buck Creek Township. Four towns are located in the school district: Fortville, McCordsville, Mt. Comfort and Mohawk, plus part of Cumberland. Schools ~ MVCSC has five schools, three of which are located on the Fortville school campus: Mt. Vernon High School, Mt. Vernon Middle School, and Fortville Elementary. The elementary schools are kindergarten 5 th grade (with Mt. Comfort Elementary hosting pre-school). The Mt. Vernon Middle School is 6 th 8 th Grade, with the 8 th grade located in Mt. Vernon High School (9 th 12 th grades). All MVCSC schools are award-winning and provide academic excellence with innovative educational programming in a safe and secure environment. Students ~ MVCSC has nearly 3,600 students. Several schools are nearing capacity and are now limiting transfer students. MVCSC has experienced a massive growth in enrollment of 50% in last 15 years. Vernon High School (MVHS) is located on the Fortville school campus and received a renovation and expansion that was finished in MVHS has nearly 1,200 students and offers a wide variety of educational opportunities to challenge students. Staff promotes academic achievement through independent and critical thinking which will develop skills necessary for lifelong learning. The superintendent reports to five school board members who were elected at large. Currently, two board members began their term January, 2015, and the other three were elected in The administration facility houses the following departments: transportation, business and payroll, health services, food services, part of the technology staff, as well as the superintendent, assistant superintendent and support staff. Possess a strong working knowledge of curriculum, staff development, staff evaluation, collective bargaining, school budget and finance, and use data to drive decision-making. Demonstrate a willingness to be a visible, active community leader and attend extra-curricular events. Possess a strong desire to nurture an effective and harmonious working relationship with the school board, staff and members of the community. Demonstrate a commitment and ability to stay knowledgeable of educational challenges, school funding issues, legislative developments, and share that knowledge with appropriate audiences. Be committed to build a culture of continuous improvement. Be skilled and committed to sound fiscal management of all school corporation assets and resources. Demonstrate the highest standards of morality, ethics, integrity and personal conduct. Possess a proven ability to define, develop, implement, and evaluate short and long-term educational goals. Possess sensitivity to the total needs of all social-economic and cultural backgrounds pertaining to students, parents, educators, support staff, and the community in general. Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. Five (5) years or more classroom teaching experience preferred. Central office experience preferred. Doctorate preferred, but not required.
