3 REGISTRATION INFORMATION Programs at the Y are all held in sessions. Use the session information below to understand when the sessions are held and when you can register for classes. Also included below are class descriptions, locations of classes, fees, ages, and lesson days/times. Please look closely to ensure proper selection and registration. REGISTRATION OPTIONS 1. Go to 2. MEMBER REGISTRATION Session I - December7 Session II - January 25 Spring Session - March 15 COMMUNITY MEMBER REGISTRATION Session I - December 28 Session II - February 15 Spring Session - April 5 Program Registration Information Payment Methods At the Y, payment is accepted by cash, check or credit card (Master Card, Discover, Visa, American Express). Phone and online registration must be paid by credit card. The full class fee must be paid to guarantee your spot. Credit/Refund Policy Credits and refunds are given for the following reasons: 1. Medical condition prevents you from participating. 2. Y cancels the class (excluding weather conditions). 3. You transfer to a program at a lower price. Weather Policy For your safety and the safety of our staff, the Y may be forced to cancel a class and/or close for a portion of the day during severe weather. If school is cancelled overnight, all morning programs will be cancelled through 11:00 a.m. This includes all youth and adult classes, lessons, and activities. Unfortunately, we are not able to reschedule classes cancelled due to poor weather conditions. 3

Children develop body awareness, independence, water safety skills and stroke development through guided practice, songs, and games. A parent accompanies the child and an emphasis is put on relationships, trust, and learning through play and exploration. Prices will be adjusted. PRESCHOOL LEARN TO SWIM PROGRAM Preschoolers develop swimming skills as well as independence, comfort, and safety awareness. Instructors use a child-centered and guided discovery teaching approach which offers more active involvement and a better understanding of swimming. The most advanced level introduces swimmers to competitive swimming. They refine strokes and build endurance and technique. 5 AQUATICS NORTHERNS SWIM TEAM Keep your swimmer going after the regular season! The Northerns is a competitive swim team for ages At practice, swimmers are separated into ability levels to work on strokes, technique, and endurance. How about a shark? Come put on a tail, give your core muscles a good workout, and have a blast! Tails provided. Must be able to dolphin kick OR swim the butterfly stroke for 25 yards to participate. Some of the exciting activities we have paired with swimming include dance, fitness, gym, sports, and ballet. 6 SAFETY TRAININGS SAFETY TRAININGS The Duluth Y offers nationally recognized safety courses from organizations such as the American Safety and Health Institute, and the American Red Cross. Attend classes at the Y, or have us come to you! To register for a scheduled class, such as CPR, First Aid, Child and Baby Sitting Safety or Basic Lifeguarding, contact the Member Service Desk or visit our website. To set up training for a group, inquire about specialized trainings available or for additional information, contact the Aquatics office or Cheryl at cpodtburg@duluthymca.org RED CROSS BASIC LIFEGUARD COURSE The purpose of the Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. Winter Course: Jan 8 and 15 from 5 9 pm, Jan 9 and 16 from 9 am 5 pm Spring Course: April 4 8 from 12 5 pm daily Summer Course: June 6 10 from 4:30 9:30 pm daily *Must attend all course sessions and be 15 years of age by course completion. *If you take our lifeguard course and become employed in the Aquatics Department, we will reimburse your course fee after working 300 hours. AMERICAN SAFETY AND HEALTH INSTITUTE (ASHI) CHILD AND BABY-SITTING SAFETY (CABS) Provides training in the business of babysitting, proper supervision, basic caregiving skills, and responding properly to ill or injured children and infants. Fee: $55 CPR/First Aid Module: $30 Winter Course: April 9 from 9 am 4 pm Spring Course: May 7 from 9 am 4 pm *Must be 11 years of age by course completion. RED CROSS BASIC LIFEGUARD REVIEW COURSE Fee: $130 Winter Course: Dec 29 th and 30 th from 5 9 pm Spring Course: May 14 th from 8 am 5 pm *Must hold current or recently expired certification and attend all course sessions. AMERICAN SAFETY AND HEALTH INSTITUTE (ASHI) CPR/AED AND FIRST AID Provides workplaces and community training in performing CPR and using and automated external defibrillator (AED). The goal of this skills-based training is to help students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to respond in a medical emergency. RED CROSS WATERFRONT SKILLS MODULE The purpose of the Waterfront Skills module is to teach lifeguards the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to emergencies in non-surf, open-water areas found at public parks, resorts, summer camps and campgrounds. Fee: $130 Summer A Course: June 10 th from 8 am 5 pm Summer B Course: June 11 th from 8 am 5 pm *Must hold current or recently expired basic or waterfront certification. 7 DIP, RIDE & DASH RUN FOR LIFE (Ages 15 and up) Informational Meeting for both groups February 2nd at 5:30 pm. Training February 9 - June 16th Registration now open! 5K TRAINING Run for Life is a running program where members will have a social network offering accountability and support. Start as a group of people, finish as a group of friends! All running levels welcome! The purpose is to encourage, inspire, and get outside for a group run. We want to help make running part of your lifestyle with this gradual program that gets you off the couch and into your sneakers. Great camaraderie, accountability, and confidence-boosting! Group Training day is sday at 5:30pm Y Member Fee $40.00 Community Fee $60.00 HALF AND FULL MARATHON TRAINING Get ready for Grandma s Marathon with the Y! Run for Life is a running program where members will have a social network offering accountability and support. No experience needed for this group. Runners train in three group runs a week, receive a handbook with training calendar as well as workshops on running nutrition, weatherbased and other running gear, running form, injury prevention, and cross-training techniques using kettlebells, TRX, aqua jogging and LightSpeed. We re here to help you train so that you cross that finish line June 2016! Group Training days are sday at 5:30pm, Thursday at 5:30 pm, and Saturday at 8:45 am Y Member Fee $ Community Fee $ TRI SWIM CLUB Tri Swim is geared toward those 16 years of age and older who are looking to improve their swimming strokes, are training for a triathlon, or just need that extra push to make their stroke more efficient. Be ready for the summer cycling season! Cycle Camp is a proven and highly effective power-based, progressive training program that will give you a head start to the outdoor season. The goal of cycle camp is to increase overall power output while improving cardiovascular efficiency. Get ready to ride 2 times a week with your own personal program based off your own power output numbers. Please register for 1 long ride and 1 short ride each week. 9 ACTIVE OLDER ADULTS ADAPTIVE YOGA The Duluth Y has partnered with the Courage Kenny Northland organization to offer our members and community this excellent program. This program was developed for youth and adults with physical disabilities (MD, CP, MS, spinal cord injuries, etc). Adaptive Yoga is designed to increase strength, flexibility, balance, and ability to focus inward through the active practice of postures. Uses light free weights, resistance bands, and ball for coordination. Chair is available for use. Day Time Location Mon, Wed & Fri 8:00-9:00am PICKLEBALL Come try out the fastest growing sport in America! Pickleball is played by volleying a ball back and forth over a net similar to tennis. The Y provides all the equipment and the game is played in the gym every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning from 9:00 11:00 am. CRIBBAGE AND COFFEE Take this chance to relax and play some cribbage with others. Coffee and snacks are provided. Grab a cup of coffee and get a game going! 10 YOUTH AND FAMILY TAE KWON DO (Ages 7 and Up) Classes will teach blocking, kicking, and punching techniques emphasizing the traditional philosophy and discipline of Tae Kwon Do. Tae Kwon Do is a great way to spend time with your family, as all classes are family oriented! Individuals are also welcome. This year-round class is designed for those interested in continuing their Tae Kwon Do education. A white, traditional uniform is required. Youth will be introduced to the sport of climbing and will be taught proper climbing technique and basic commands by our instructors. In addition, adults will have the opportunity to learn how to belay climbers in a safe and efficient manner. OPEN CLIMB TIMES Come on and start climbing! Available for ages 5 and up these times are set aside for beginner, novice, and expert climbers. Trained staff is here to help you get started. 11 YOUTH PROGRAMS KID'S CLUB (4 months 9 years of age) YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM (Y.E.P.) Leave your children in a clean, caring and safe environment while you workout. Childcare providers will make your child s stay fun and entertaining. Adults must remain in the facility while utilizing Kid s Club services. The Youth Employment Program (or, Y.E.P.) is a unique program targeted to help youth ages develop the skills a person needs to be a successful employee in today s world. The course will focus on a different skill set each day. At the end of the course, students will take part in a professional interview with the organization they choose to pursue. Youth that successfully complete this program will be GUARANTEED part-time employment through a local organization. Topics that will be covered during this course include: Employer expectations, resume construction, interview and soft skills, how to work effectively on a team, and more! Space will be limited. NEW ONLINE REGISTRATION PARENT'S TIME OUT FAMILY NIGHT Join us on the second Friday of every month for a FREE night out for the whole family. Come to the YMCA from 6-8 pm and enjoy gym games, bounce house, swimming, rock wall, crafts, and a family friendly movie. Bring your family and friends for a night of fun at the Y. Take the night off and leave the child care to the Y. Theme activities include a dinner from Erberts and Gerberts, arts and crafts, gym games, swimming (ages 5 and up) and ending the evening with a kid-friendly movie. Hours are 5:00 9:00 pm. 12 SPORTS AND LEAGUES HOME SCHOOL PHYSICAL EDUCATION This program is designed for home school students ages 5 and older who are looking to socialize and have fun while doing a physical activity. Each class will include swimming lessons, team sports, and games. This year, we will be having only 2 sessions. Winter Session: Feb 22 Apr 9 Y Member Fee: $52.00 Community Fee: $83.00 Session Day Time Winter II s 2:00-4:00 pm 4 ON 4 BASKETBALL LEAGUES (Men s) Two different divisions are offered each season for preformed teams, a recreation and advanced division. Games are played on Monday evenings starting at 5:30 pm for a 10 week session. There are 8 games of round robin play and two weeks of tournament play. Players must be at least 16. Registration: Jan 4 Jan 15 Who: boys and girls ages 3-6 th grade Cost: $20 Date and Time: TBD This co-ed league on sday and Thursday nights is designated for those with previous volleyball experience. 13 THE Y AT WOODLAND THE Y AT WOODLAND, Woodland Community Center (WCC) is located at 3211 Allendale Avenue, right off of Woodland Avenue past Hartley Nature Center. 16 GYMNASTICS COMPETITIVE GYMNASTICS Duluth YMCA Aerials Team is a year-round program for individuals interested in developing quality gymnastics skills while instilling the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Our competitive program is governed by the USA Gymnastics Xcel Program which provides gymnasts with a more adaptive experience in a competitive realm, and an opportunity for a rewarding ongoing gymnastics experience. A health form and waiver must be signed, ages 10 and up are able to use the gym independently. Parent supervision is required for children ages 9 and under.
