2 RECYORK ONLINe York Sport & Recreation is pleased to offer online registration for all programs and memberships. To register online: Visit yorkulions.ca/recyork. Click on Login and then Retrieve Login. Use the address that is registered with York. Not sure which is registered with York? Click on the Registrars office link on the Retrieve Login page to find your . Once logged in, find the class/membership option you are interested in and complete the steps on the screen. If you are signing up for an instructional class, buy your membership first (and complete the transaction by paying for it) and then proceed with the registration for the instructional class. Once you have registered for your fitness membership, pick up your shoe-tag from Client Services so you can access the Fitness Centre. If there are any questions regarding online registration, please speak with a member of the Client Services staff. YORK STUDENTS For current students, a valid YU-card and membership is required to enter the building. Lost YU-cards must be replaced by the YU-card office. Student Basic Membership Access to gymnasia, pool and squash courts. This membership is free for York students. Student Fitness Membership Basic package plus access to the Fitness Centre and unlimited dropin fitness classes. York students can purchase the student fitness membership online or at Client Services for a non-refundable fee of $15 for a shoe tag. Shoe tags must be visible at all times and can be replaced for $15 if lost. 3. Do students need to register to attend the group drop-in fitness classes and/or use the Fitness Centre? Yes, a valid shoe tag ($15) and PAR-Q screening are required for all students to use the Fitness Centre and participate in all fitness and wellness classes. 4. Can I transfer to a different class? Yes, transfers are allowed, except when a course is full. You must bring your receipt, YU-card, membership card or photo ID to Client Services. You are required to pay for any additional fees if the new course is more expensive. 5. Can I get a refund? Instructional refunds are allowed prior to the start of the second class, less a $15 administration fee. Full refunds will be issued if an instructional class is cancelled for the term. For our full refund policy, visit yorkulions.ca, under Recreation header. 6. If a class is cancelled, will there be a make-up class? Depending upon schedule availability, make-up classes may be offered. Note: Additional fees apply for instructional classes and other services. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 1. Can I try programs I m interested in without committing to registration? Yes! You may try a class anytime for a drop-in fee of $15, which will be fully discounted off your instructional program fee if you register within seven days. 2. How do I register for instructional courses? Register in person at Client Services at the Tait McKenzie front desk or online. A valid YU-card, membership card or photo ID must be shown. Payment can be made with cash, debit, Visa, MasterCard or YU card. 1

3 Fitness Centre Entrance Policies All users must: Wear athletic apparel Have a valid shoe tag that is clearly visible on your shoe Refrain from bringing personal items into the Fitness Centre (i.e. bags) Note: No external professional personal trainers are allowed in the Fitness Centre. Shoe Tags Students must purchase a Student Fitness Membership from Client Services to receive a valid shoe tag. Sharing a shoe tag is a violation of the building policy and may lead to suspension of privileges. If you forget your shoe tag, you can purchase a $2 single-day wristband from Client Services. FOLLOW US York Recreation & Tait McKenzie MEMBERSHIP SERVICES INFORMATION MEMBERSHIP PACKAGES Non-student Basic Access to gymnasia, pool, squash and tennis courts (excluding Tennis Canada courts) during scheduled recreation times. Non-student Fitness Basic package plus access to the Fitness Centre and group drop-in fitness classes. Note: Access to the Toronto Track & Field Centre is only applicable for eight to 12 month Non-student Fitness memberships. Non-students must present a valid Tait McKenzie Centre access card and receipt of membership prior to first entry. There is no rental fee for basketballs, volleyballs or soccer balls. There is a $2 rental fee for squash, tennis, table tennis and badminton racquets. Squash balls, tennis balls and various other items can be purchased at Client Services. Lost or damaged equipment is subject to a replacement fee. Guest Policy Any client who would like to use our facility for a day can do so by providing current government-issued photo ID and paying a $10 fee. All guests must be 17 years or older. Guests under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Forgotten Cards All students and members unable to present the appropriate access card, but who have alternate photo ID and proof of membership affiliation, may enter for $2 fee. Locker, Towel and T-shirt Service Fees will be pro-rated on a monthly basis to correspond with an individual s membership term that will expire at the end of April, August or December. Towel service allows a user one towel per day (1-towel service) or two towels (or 1 towel + shirt) per day. Daily lock, towel or T-shirt rentals are available for $2. Access cards are required. All lockers are to be cleaned or renewed on or before the expiry date. After this date, Tait McKenzie Centre staff will clear the locker and store the contents for a $20 administrative charge. After 30 days, all content will be donated to a charity. 4 MEMBERSHIP TERMS AND CONDITIONS To ensure our members and guests enjoy a safe and positive experience, we request that all members and guests acknowledge and abide by the following rules, polices and guidelines. As well, all participants are subject to University policies and guidelines on campus property. Memberships, the Fitness Centre and group drop-in fitness classes are open to anyone 17 years of age and over. Children under the age of 17 (proof of age may be required) are admitted free when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian member (child must be accompanied by parent/ guardian for all activities within the facility). Children under the age of 17 are not permitted in the Fitness Centre and drop-in group fitness classes Memberships can be purchased for a minimum of one month and a maximum of 12 months. Locker and towel services are based on a four, eight or 12-month term and are pro-rated to the end of August, December or April. Payment can be made by cash, debit card, credit card or YU-card. Cheques or partial payments are not accepted. Payroll deduction is offered to full-time York employees with a minimum of an eight-month membership. Continuous payroll deduction is an option with 12-month membership only. A membership may be cancelled at any time within 10 days after receiving the written copy of the agreement. After this time membership and services are non-refundable. Membership fees include regular and periodic closures. As such, there are no extensions granted to memberships for such closures. Fraudulent use of access or YU-card will result in a suspension of privileges. Violation of any building policies and procedures may result in suspension of privileges. Tait McKenzie Centre reserves the right to revoke membership privileges at any time. Note: We strive to maintain accurate information in all of our publications and electronic media. However, errors may occur. We reserve the right to make adjustments or corrections as required at any time without prior notice. CASUAL RECREATION Schedules are posted each Friday and are updated as required. For up-to-date information, visit yorkulions.ca, view the weekly facility schedule at Client Services or call Pick-up activities in the Student Field House will be interrupted once daily for court cleaning. Special events may cancel the casual recreation schedule at any time. Core Circuit Build core strength in this class that combines strength training and core abdominal work in a unique fusion class that utilizes a multitude of equipment in a fast-paced circuit environment. Beast Kik If you thought Tabata Circuit was hard then you have not done anything yet. Only for those who are dedicated to push their body farther than it has been pushed and ready to give everything until you drop: we will lead you through power and speed moves of martial arts and military obstacle drills for an intense athletic challenge. Stretch & Flex This program provides an opportunity for you to relax and allow your muscles to rebound from all of the other activities you have been doing. Let our instructor guide you through a structure program that will allow your body and mind to relax and still feel like you have worked out and regenerated your muscles. Womens only No offence guys, but sometimes women just want to work out with other women. This program fuses the basics of weight and core body training and helps women gain confidence to go into any gym and work out with success. LGBT: This program fuses the basics of weight and core body training. Full Body Bosu This is a muscle strength and endurance workout for the entire body! In this class you will use resistance tubing, hand weights, BOSU balls and more, for an integrated and intensive body work out that ends with a rejuvenating stretch. There a beginner level cardio component to this class and it is an excellent complement to your overall fitness and wellness. H.I.I.T. (High Intensity Interval Training) H.I.I.T. is an intense metabolic work out! You will improve muscle strength and endurance while burning calories long after this work out is completed. Combat Core Think you can handle 30 full minutes of core? Attack your abs in every way while boosting your energy with kickboxing intervals of metabolic activities. BOSU ABT Looking for something different then look no further! This class utilizes the BOSU, a cross between a plank and a ball. You will integrate balance, strength and core conditioning to build up your sweat. BOSU is a fun, intense and awesome total body work out! 4

6 Fitness Centre, Personal Training & NUTRITION Fitness Orientations Throughout the month of September, join the Fitness Centre staff for an introduction to the Tait McKenzie Fitness Centre. We will provide a brief overview of the Fitness Centre policies, tour exercise areas and try equipment, learn about Recreation York programs & services and answer your specific exercise questions Orientations run all September, Monday through Friday at 10am and 4:30pm. Fitness Centre Events Improve your fitness levels by participating in any or all of the Fitness Centre fitness challenges. Each month, Fitness Centre staff will create a different fitness challenge designed to put your fitness to the test. Watch the Fitness Centre bulletin board or check the Recreation York website for more details. Personal Training Are you spending the time in the gym but not getting the results that you desire? Are you a new exerciser or returning to exercise and don t know where to start? Do you want to make the best use of your limited available workout time? Campus Recreation staff are all certified personal trainers. We offer: 1) Fitness Starter (Fitness Assessment & initial exercise program) 2) One-On-One Personal Training 3) Small Group Personal Training (up to 5 participants) *New Fitness Starter $55 Times and dates to be set up with Fitness Centre staff. This package consists of a total of two hours with a personal trainer over two separate visits. Your first visit begins with a comprehensive fitness assessment, following the protocols of our fitness assessment program. With your assessment results, your current fitness level and your individual fitness goals as our guideline, we create a personalized workout program for you. During your second visit, your trainer and you go through your workout program, ensuring your understanding and ability to perform all exercises. This is a great way to help eliminate the confusion surrounding how often you should exercise, how much you should do and, most importantly, what you should be doing. One-on-One Personal Training $120 (3 sessions), $220 (6 sessions), $300 (9 sessions) Times and dates to be set up with Fitness Centre staff. Train towards your individual fitness goals at your own pace and on your own schedule. Your trainer will design your program for optimal results and guide you through your training sessions. Their personal attention and encouragement will assist you in setting realistic health and fitness goals while providing direction and professional advice to assist you in achieving your desired level of fitness. All personal training session packages include a preliminary comprehensive fitness assessment (one additional hour). You now have the option of registering for packages that include either three, six or nine sessions. Small Group Personal Training (2-5 participants) $30 per session (Create your group only) $90 (Series #1 or #2 join a group) $150 (Both series join a group) All small group personal training sessions are scheduled in our private training studio where you will have access to a variety of unique training apparatus (including TRX suspension systems). We now offer two convenient options: 1. Create your own group: Work out with your friends on a day and at a time that is most convenient for all of you. This is a very cost-effective method of training with a personal trainer but within the supportive environment of your friends and on a schedule and frequency that your group has identified. You choose the total number of personal training sessions that your group would like to register for and we provide an appropriate certified personal trainer who can work with your group s preferred schedule and fitness levels. 2. Join a group: Join one of our group personal training sessions and progress towards improved health and fitness in a fun and supportive environment while saving on the cost of individual personal training. These sessions are held once a week and are one hour in length, are led by one of our certified personal trainers and are designed appropriately for the fitness levels of the participants. FITNESS ASSESSMENTS Fitness Assessment (1 hour) Student/Member $35, Non-Member $55 Find out just how fit you really are with a comprehensive assessment of your overall fitness. The assessment includes health pre-screening, measures of heart rate, blood pressure, height and weight. Additional tests measure body fat, muscular strength and endurance, back health, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness. You will be provided with complete testing results indicating your status within a healthy or unhealthy range for your age and gender and areas for improvement. This is ideal for active individuals who want to receive feedback on their present fitness levels as well as individuals who want a benchmark of where to start. Body Fat Assessment (15 minutes) Student/Member $10, Non-Member $30 Receive an objective estimate of your body composition. Determine your Body Mass Index (BMI), weight, height and waist girth measurements. All results are based on health risk zones and percentiles according to your age and gender. FITNESS & NUTRITION COMBO PACKAGE Triple Up Combo (5 hours) Student/Member $160, Non-Member $180 Begin with a complete in-depth one-hour nutrition and one-hour fitness assessment. Over the next 4 6 weeks, you will have three onehour personal training sessions with a certified trainer who will assist you in setting realistic fitness goals and provide you with the direction and motivation to achieve them. Our nutritional consultant will provide initial nutrition recommendations and four weeks into the start of your exercise routine, schedule a half-hour nutritional follow-up session to review the next steps toward a lifelong commitment to health and fitness. Paperwork, including a five-day food diary, a general health questionnaire and an informed consent form are to be picked up from the Fitness Centre and completed before your scheduled appointments. To register for any of our personal training and/or nutrition options, pay for your program at Client Services and then contact John Bruce, Fitness Centre assistant, by phone at x40035 or by at jbruce@yorku.ca. Note: Please notify us 24 hours prior to the appointment you wish to cancel, otherwise that appointment will be charged to your account. Any scheduled personal training and/or nutrition session may be cancelled without penalty by 24 hours notification directly to the trainer and/or Fitness Centre assistant. Notice includes confirmation from trainer and/or Fitness Centre assistant of the cancellation. Less than 24 hours notice of a session cancellation, without prior agreement by the trainer, will be considered as an attended session. All personal training sessions and assessment packages must be completed within 12 months of purchase. Refunds are not permitted after the start of any services without a medical note or prior approval by York Sport & Recreation management. NUTRITIONAL ASSESSMENTS Nutritional Health Basic Assessment (1 hour) Student/Member $55, Non-Member $75 Begin with a complete nutritional assessment with our nutritional consultant who will help you meet your goals and improve your overall health and fitness. You will discuss your current eating patterns and nutritional requirements. Paperwork, including a five-day food diary, a general health questionnaire, and an informed consent form are to be picked up from the Fitness Centre and completed before your scheduled appointments. You will be provided some healthy eating guidelines including dietary, supplement and lifestyle suggestions to get you on the right track to optimal health. Learn how the types of meals and snacks you choose, as well as the timing, can influence your body composition, energy and performance. Nutritional Health Basic Assessment Follow-up (30 minutes) Student/Member $30, Non-Member $50 Have your current nutritional program plan reviewed and revised four to six weeks after your initial assessment to ensure that you are progressing toward your fitness and lifestyle goals. 6

Student Centre - Boot Camp and Circuit $125 Mon/Tue/ Thu No class Oct 12, :10-1pm Sep 8 Dec 15 Rm 307 Student Centre AQUATICS Pool Admission Criteria Children under the age of nine years will not be admitted to the swimming pool unless they are accompanied by a parent/guardian who is at least 14 years of age. The parent/guardian is responsible for the child(ren) s direct supervision in the water, with a maximum of two children for each parent/guardian. Children between the ages of nine and 10 years, who are non-swimmers and or weak swimmers, must be accompanied by a parent/guardian who is at least 14 years of age. The parent/guardian is responsible for the child(ren) s direct supervision in the water. The ratio of non-swimmers to parent/guardian may be a maximum of four bathers to one parent/guardian (4:1). The ratio of non-swimmers to parent/guardian may be increased to a maximum of eight bathers to one parent (8:1) if lifejackets/pfd s are worn by all swimmers in their charge. Children between nine and 10 years of age who are swimmers (able to demonstrate comfort in the water and pass the facility swim test) may be admitted to the swimming pool unaccompanied. Guardian or group leaders are responsible for the children in their care while in this facility and must directly supervise the children in the water at all times. Learn to Swim - All levels (Ages 12 and up) This class provides swimming instruction and water safety for individuals at all levels to develop their comfor in, on and around the water. The goal of all swimming lessons is to have participants meet the Swim to Survive standard. 9 Stroke Improvement- Level 2 Stroke improvement (level 2) is designed for the adult with good swimming ability who is interested in a structure workout, feedback on stroke technique and improvement and fitness in the water. Prerequisites: Must be able to swim 200 metres (8 lengths) of any strokes continuously and tread water for two minutes.
