1 mosaic society of philadelphia Call to Artists: Fragments, Shards and Pieces Images in Mosaic The Mosaic Society of Philadelphia (MSoP) is honored to have been invited to hold an exhibition of its members works in mosaic at the Art Gallery at City Hall, (Philadelphia), Ludington Library (Bryn Mawr) and Main Line Art Center (Haverford). Fragments, Shards and Pieces: Images in Mosaic is a celebration of contemporary mosaic art, concurrent with City Hall s The Mosaic Muse, and the annual conference of the Society of American Mosaic Artists, being held in Philadelphia on March We invite current members of the Mosaic Society of Philadelphia (MSoP) to submit their works in mosaic in any medium, any style, 2D or 3D. With our growing membership, we have a great opportunity to showcase the different aesthetics, styles and methods of contemporary mosaics. MSoP is partnering with three venues, giving members the option to submit work to be shown in up to three locations, furthering our commitment to designing exhibitions that showcase our members personal aesthetics, style and use of materials. Submission Deadline: Friday, January 2, pm Exhibition dates: Art at City Hall: February 9 March 27, 2015 Ludington Library: February 17 March 26, 2015 Main Line Art Center: Welcome Lobby: March 10 April 9, 2015 Reception dates: There will be TWO receptions at City Hall - TBA. 2 Rules for entry: Eligibility All 2014 members of the Mosaic Society of Philadelphia are eligible to submit work for entry in either or all of the venues, one piece per venue. The MSoP Exhibition Committee will select which works will be displayed at each particular location. Exhibition Sites Three Exhibition Hosts: Philadelphia City Hall: Art In City Hall presents exhibitions that showcase contemporary artwork by professional and emerging Philadelphia region visual artists. Encompassing a variety of mediums, techniques, and subjects, this program is committed to presenting a diversity of ideas and artistic explorations. The program strives to link visual artists with the larger community by providing the public with a greater knowledge and appreciation of their artistic achievements. Art in City Hall has made available their exhibit space on the first floor of City Hall, as well as two display cases nearby, for this exhibition, while the concurrent Mosaic Muse exhibit will be displayed on the 2nd and 4th floors of the historic venue. Ludington Library, Bryn Mawr: Ludington Library s mission is to provide access to and promote a wide variety of books, audio-visual materials and databases reflecting the diverse needs and interests of the population. They support the informational, educational, recreational and cultural needs of groups and individuals of all ages. Artwork will be displayed in the entrance gallery. Main Line Art Center: Main Line Art Center s mission is to inspire and engage artistic creativity for all ages and abilities and to celebrate and strengthen the essential role of visual art in community life. Mosaic art will be displayed in the Welcome Gallery and hall stairwell. Submission requirements: 1. Deadline for all submissions at all locations: Friday, January 2nd, 4 pm. No exceptions. There is no entry fee. 2. Each work must be no larger than 225 sq. in., including the frame, if one is present, and no longer than 30 in any dimension. 3. Please submit up to 4 works as jpegs (specifications below), along with your application and loan document in one of the following ways: Send a CD: MSoP, P.O. Box 211, Drexel Hill, PA images and pdf application to exhibits@mosaicsocietyofphiladelphia.org Fragments, Shard and Pieces Prospectus - Page 2 of 9
3 Share your DropBox folder with (All files MUST be in ONE folder. DO NOT share individual photos. Individual photo sharing requests will be dismissed.) 4. Each image must be at least 2048 pixels wide at 300 dpi, which will yield a file size of approximately 2.4 Mb. Photos must be on focus and properly lit. If the photos are not clear and of the proper resolution, the work will not be considered for exhibition. 5. Each jpeg file name should correlate with the entry form. You may include up to 3 details of each work. Each detail image should be named the same as the main image of the work, followed by detail 1, detail 2, detail 3, as appropriate. Example: Smith_Sara_Mosaic_at_Sunrise_.jpeg 6. Each artist must include a brief artist statement (no longer than two paragraphs) as a plain text, Word, Pages or PDF document. 7. Return the completed entry form with your digital submission. DVDs will NOT be returned. Selection and Installation of Exhibition It is the intention of the MSoP Exhibit Committee to include at least one work from each eligible MSoP member in each desired venue, however, there is a limited amount of space and though we will make every effort to include every member who wishes to participate, space restrictions may demand that we make some choose between entries to fill each location. We are committed to showing at least one work by each participating member in at least one of the gallery spaces. The MSoP Exhibits Committee, The City, the Art In City Hall Exhibitions Committee and/or curators reserve the right to change the content of the exhibition, including the removal of artwork. Accepted artists will be notified by phone or . Inquiries can be addressed to exhibits@mosaicsocietyofphiladelphia.org and will ONLY receive a response after January 7, when all artists will have been notified. All work must be in good condition and ready for installation ("D" hooks no sawtooth hangers, top of taut wire must be at least 1.5" below the top edge of the frame). Artwork submission form must be completed and attached to the back of the submitted artwork. Artists are responsible for assisting with installation of works which require special attention or extensive demands of time. Fragments, Shard and Pieces Prospectus - Page 3 of 9
4 Delivery of Work: All works must be hand delivered for all exhibitions. No mail deliveries will be accepted, as these locations do not have storage space for artwork. Artists will be notified as to which artwork will need to be delivered to which exhibit space when selection work has been completed. Art at City Hall: Friday, January 30, 2015, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. OR Saturday, January 31, 2015, 12 to 3 p.m. to Art Gallery at City Hall, Room 116 (nearest the East portal archway facing East Market St., across from Macy s). Please note: City Hall is closed on Saturday and the only entrance open will be the NE corner (across from Masonic Temple and Courtyard Marriott). A police officer stands guard near the elevators. Artists will need to check in with security before entering. Artists MUST send an message to Tu.Huynh@phila.gov and msop@mosaicsocietyofphiladelphia or call Art at City Hall at (215) to indicate when they will arrive with their artwork. Art at City Hall and Lundington Library: Art in City Hall and Ludington Library are not commercial galleries and do not take commissions. All sales are between the artist and interested patron(s). Contact information, if the work is for sale, should be included in the Submission form as requested, and will be displayed either with the work or in the show directory. None of the venues, nor MSoP, will manage or otherwise arrange the sale of any of the work. Main Line Art Center: With receive 40% for work sold, 60% to the artist. Liability Each accepted artist exhibiting at City Hall needs to complete the loan agreement accompanying the Submission Form. Artwork will be insured once received by all venues and determined to be in good condition for the duration of the exhibition and installation/de-installation periods. 9 The artist/organization agrees that the above stated work(s) will be loaned to Art at City Hall Ludington Library Main Line Art Center for the period specified above. Art In City Hall/Mosaic Society of Philadelphia/ Ludington Library and Main Line Art Center reserve the right to revise the exhibition after installation or reject work(s) which have not been agreed upon in advance. Artwork is insured once it has been delivered in good condition to the above mentioned venue and for the duration of the exhibit. Neither Art In City Hall nor the City of Philadelphia, nor Ludington Library or Main Line Art Center are responsible for the packing and transporting of artwork before installation or after deinstallation. Artwork may be photographed strictly for exhibition publicity/review through local media or website. Artwork may be for sale, but such transactions are strictly between artists/ representatives and patrons. Art In City Hall does not take commission, but may connect artists with interested parties. Artwork needs to remain for the duration of the exhibit.
