2 PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION FOR WAKEFIELD SCHOOLS RULES & GUIDELINES REGISTERING TO ENTER - The competition is open to schools within the Wakefield Local Authority only. - All schools and colleges must register to enter the competition, in advance of submitting photographic works. The deadline for registration for entering the competition is 10am, Friday 15 January Registration may be completed by submitting an online form by visiting or by completing and submitting the form at the end of this document. COMPETITION CATEGORIES - The competition is split into five different categories: 1. Upper and Lower Foundation and KS1 (EYFS & Primary Years 1-2) 2. KS2 (Primary Years 3-6) 3. KS3 (Secondary Years 7-9) 4. KS4 (Secondary Years 10-11) 5. Further Education (Years 12 & 13 young people aged in FTE). ENTRIES - In order to provide an opportunity for all schools and colleges in Wakefield to participate, a maximum number of photographic entries from each school is permitted, in the first instance: o For Early Years and Primary categories, each school may submit a maximum of 2 photographs per age-group.
3 o For Secondary categories, each school may submit a maximum of 2 photographs per age-group. o For the FE category, each school or college may submit a maximum of 3 photographs. - The Hepworth Wakefield reserves the right to increase the number of photographic entries permitted by each registered school or college. Following the deadline for registration to enter (15 January), The Hepworth Wakefield Learning Team will inform all registrants of any increase to the number of entries permitted. - Only one entry per individual permitted. - All entries must be received by 12pm, Monday 22 February Entries received after this time and date will not be entered into the competition. - Photographic entries must be new works created in response to and exploration of the competition theme (outlined below), and should not use pre-existing photographs, e.g. coursework. - Entries may be submitted in digital or physical form. DIGITAL ENTRIES Digital photographic entries may be submitted by: 1. Using a file transfer service (e.g. WeTransfer, Dropbox, etc.) with the transfer link ed directly to competition@hepworthwakefied.org, or 2. CD via post to: Schools Photography Competition, c/o Learning Team, The Hepworth Wakefield, Gallery Walk, Wakefield, WF1 5AW. Image files must be LARGE JPEGS, a minimum of 3MB. Photographs will be printed in 12 x 8 inch format. It is anticipated that photographs will be printed on satin matt paper. PHYSICAL ENTRIES Where digital photography is not the medium used, entries should be submitted by post, or delivered by hand, to: Schools Photography Competition, c/o The Learning Team, The Hepworth Wakefield, Gallery Walk, Wakefield, WF1 5AW.
4 Photographic works must not exceed the following dimensions: 12 x 8 inches / 30.48cm x 20.32cm. - We regret that we are unable accept transparencies and negatives. - All entries must be accompanied by a submission form, which may be downloaded from our website, providing clear details outlining: entrant s name, age and year group, name of school, school contact s name (this should be the registrant), title of the photograph, file name (if a digital submission), and a description of up to 80 words. - The Hepworth Wakefield is not responsible for returning works. Files and prints can be returned by collection only, following the end of the exhibition. - All images submitted must be the work of the individual submitting them, photographed in Wakefield and must not have been published elsewhere or have won a prize in any other photographic competition. The submitting school and entrant must ensure they do not infringe the copyright of any third party or any laws. - It is the responsibility of each school, and relevant entrant, to ensure that permission has been granted by parents/guardians of any individuals that appear in their photograph, where individuals are children aged 16 years or under. A form can be found at the end of this pack, or may be downloaded from our website Forms should be submitted at the time of entering the competition. - By entering the competition, each entrant grants a worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual licence to The Hepworth Wakefield to feature any or all of the submitted images in any of their publications, their websites, their social media sites, their merchandise, their exhibitions, and/or in any publicity and promotional material connected to this competition. - No responsibility can be accepted for lost entries. notification of receipt of entries will be provided to the schools registered contact and address provided.
5 COMPETITION THEME - Photographic works should explore the theme: My Secret Wakefield. EXHIBITION - All photographic works entered into the competition will be exhibited at The Hepworth Wakefield from 19 March End date to be confirmed. JUDGING - All entries will be judged by a public vote on their visual appeal, originality and interpretation of the My Secret Wakefield theme. - Members of the public visiting the gallery will be invited to cast votes. Votes will be counted and a category winner, and two runner ups, for each age group in the competition will be selected. Votes may only be cast in person at The Hepworth Wakefield. (Further details of voting system to follow.) - An overall winner will be selected by internationally celebrated photographer Martin Parr; Parr s selection is not restricted to category winners or runners up as decided by the public vote. - Winners will be announced at a special event at The Hepworth Wakefield in March/April Date to be announced. All entrants, accompanied by a parent/guardian, or school staff, will be invited to attend. - The winners will be required to take part in publicity. Entrants may also be required to take part in publicity. - The decision of the public vote and Martin Parr is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Submission of an entry will be taken to mean acceptance of these terms and conditions. No feedback will be given on unsuccessful entries.
6 PRIZES - Photography-related prizes will be awarded to individuals taking first and runner up places for each age category. - A main prize will be awarded to the overall winner, selected by Martin Parr. - The overall winner s registered school will win a prize for the school. - Prizes to be announced. - The overall winner and all category winners will have their worked framed, where possible, and exhibited at The Hepworth Wakefield. - All prizes are non-transferable and there are no cash alternatives. HOW ELSE CAN YOU GET INVOLVED? - Additional photographs, exploring the competition theme, may be shared digitally via social media channels using #MySecretWakefield Facebook.com/TheHepworthWakefield

8 WAKEFIELD SCHOOLS PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION PHOTOGRAPHIC CONSENT (Please complete this form if your photograph contains the image of persons aged 16 years and under.)
