1 CALL TO ARTISTS Florida s Art in State Buildings Program University of South Florida St. Petersburg Kate Tiedemann College of Business Request for Qualifications Deadline: January 6, 2016 As a project of Florida s Art in State Buildings Program, the University of South Florida St. Petersburg is issuing a request for qualifications for the new Kate Tiedemann College of Business. The Public Art Selection Committee seeks experienced professional artists working in any media to submit their qualifications for consideration. Artists not currently in the USF Public Art Collection are preferred for this project. Finalists will be invited to propose site-specific projects and will be provided an honorarium. Please see additional project information below. Location: University of South Florida St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg, Florida Budget: $100,000 with possibility of additional funds (honoraria will be given outside of this amount to finalists for site-specific proposals) Deadline: Wednesday, January 6, 2016 Project Timeline: The anticipated completion date for this project is early Criteria to Apply: Artist must meet at least (2) of the following: the artist has completed public commissions similar in budget and scale the artist s works are in major public, private, corporate, or museum collections the artist has received awards, grants, or fellowships the artist has had a museum exhibition within the past five years Required Materials: Statement: (one page or less) Describe your interest in this project and provide the selection committee with any additional information not communicated through your resume and images. It is not necessary to make a site-specific proposal at this point in the process. Label the statement file: Last name_statement Resume: Provide your current professional resume, up to four pages, emphasizing public art experience, public collections and public commissions. Label the resume file: Last Name_resume Images: 5 10 digital images of artwork. Images should be in.jpg format with a minimum resolution of approximately 800 x 600 pixels and a maximum resolution of approximately 1900 x Images must be labeled in the numerical order in which the artist wishes them to be viewed. Each image file should match the following format: Artist s Last Name, Corresponding Image Number from ID Sheet, Artwork Title (use representative words for a long title). If the image is a detail, please indicate that as well. Be sure to put a zero in front of the numbers 1 through 9. Example: Harris_04_Sunset_detail.jpg USFSP OPEN CALL TO ARTISTS - 1

2 Make sure your images are in the same order as listed on the ID Sheet. The first five images on the ID sheet will be seen in the initial blind review. No identifying information should appear on the images. Please provide the committee with details and close-ups of large or complex artworks. Image Identification Sheet: Image identification sheet that provides the following information for each submitted image. Artist Name Image Number Thumbnail Image of the Work Title of Work Medium Dimensions Date of Work Price of Work or Amount of Commission Site or location including the city (if applicable) Commissioning Agency or Client (if applicable) Brief Explanation of intention of project (if applicable) The ID Sheet must be headed with Kate Tiedemann College of Business, the artist s name, address, phone number, address, and website, if any. Label ID sheet file: Last name_id Video: Artwork with sound or motion may be submitted as short MP4 files. Label files: Last name_01_title Note: We do not accept PowerPoint presentations or digitally watermarked images. An original signature on the work of art is acceptable. Submission Tips: Selection committees may review hundreds of artist submissions. Please make their task easier by conforming to these requests: Carefully read the description for each of the submission items so that you include all required information in the appropriate format. It is important to include the prices of your work and/or the budgets of commissioned projects. If you want the committee to consider a purchase, be sure to indicate on your Image ID Sheet which of your artworks are currently available. Prices for existing works must include delivery or shipping costs and works must arrive framed or ready to install. There are no additional funds for framing or shipping. Do not present your Image ID Sheet in landscape format. 4 research, ethical awareness, intellectual and cultural diversity, and practical service to the community with a focus on sustainability and innovation. The four-story building will extend traditional classroom spaces into diverse learning environments: small and large, formal and informal to foster collaboration, creativity and critical-thinking skills. Instructional spaces are designed to facilitate team learning and will better prepare Accountancy students for group-based work models being used in the field today. New Accelerator labs will provide Entrepreneurship students with an opportunity to work with local start-ups to develop the skills they ll need to compete in the marketplace themselves. A 200-seat amphitheater will provide an ideal venue for events. Situated on 3rd Street South between 6th and 7th Avenues South, these principles are integrated into the design of the Kate Tiedemann College of Business building, with entrances from both the campus and community, creating a conduit connecting students and faculty with the city. Transparent, patterned glass with interlocking circle motifs unifies the exterior surfaces of the building and symbolizes the open accessibility between the university and surrounding communities. Potential Sites for Public Art Commons Atrium Interior view Commons Atrium The Kate Tiedemann College of Business building s main entrances all lead into a large, light-filled Commons Atrium with glass facades to the exteriors facing east and west. The three-story atrium measures 48 feet x 48 feet x 48 feet and is able to be viewed from walkways and glass-walled meeting rooms on the upper floors and a second floor Bloomberg trading room that extends eight feet out over the first floor. A LED Stock Ticker display wraps around the bottom of the glass paneled windows of the Bloomberg trading room. The first floor of the Commons Atrium prominently features a 12 feet x 36 feet coral stone wall and an LED Stock Ticker display wraps around the bottom of the glass paneled windows of the Bloomberg trading room. The maximum weight able to be suspended from the ceiling supports in the Commons Atrium cannot exceed 200 pounds. USFSP OPEN CALL TO ARTISTS - 4

5 Palm Court - East perspective view from campus Palm Court The exterior niche space of the Palm Court facing 3rd Street South opens to the Harborwalk, the landscaped main promenade through campus. The Palm Court, approximately 48 feet x 48 feet x 80 feet, includes an 80 feet x 48 feet façade composed of 4 x 8 foot glass panels and incorporates a 12 feet x 16 feet vestibule entrance which extends 12 feet into the Palm Court niche. Three elevated exterior walkways with guardrails, with a height of 3 feet 6 inches, span the niche space in front of the glass façade and extend eight feet into the niche space above the vestibule entrance. Two pre-cast concrete walls measuring 80 feet x 48 feet envelope the sides of the Palm Court space, creating 80 feet x 40 feet wall planes in front of the elevated walkways. Each pre-cast concrete wall also includes a 16 feet x 12 feet window on the first floor extending 24 feet from the glass façade. Landscaping elements planned for the Palm Court can be revised to complement public art installation.
