Wabash, Suite APPLICATION CHECKLIST Incomplete or incorrectly formatted applications will not be reviewed. Please double-check your application before submitting it to SUGs. 2 INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMISSION Please read carefully! Submit your application form and supplementary materials to the SUGS Main Office by July 1st, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. Late applications will not be accepted. Exhibition proposals are being accepted for the new SUGs gallery in the LeRoy Neiman Center (summer and fall) and Gallery X (fall only). Image List and Work Samples Your printed application should include all items in the checklist from the previous page. It should also include a CD or DVD with digital documentation of your work, which can include still images, video, or audio files. Your work samples should all be saved as one of the following formats:.jpg.move.mp4.way.m4a. Each file should be titled using the following format: Last_First01.fileformat example: Smith_John01.jpg

4 EXPLANATION OF REQUIRED SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIALS Each page of your application MUST have a header that lists your name and ID number as follows: Last Name, First Name ID# Example: Smith, John # Exhibition Narrative Please attach a 500-1,000 word essay describing your proposed exhibition. This should primarily serve as a comprehensive written description of the conceptual and physical elements of your exhibition. Some questions you should address: - What is the idea of conceptual framework behind this exhibition? - What will the exhibition look like? - What are you trying to communicate with this exhibition? - What kind of experience do you want to create for your audience? - How is this exhibition relevant to the SAIC community? - Will you be including any additional programming as part of your exhibition? Please describe in your narrative and include in your budget Word Summary Please attach a 2-3 sentence summary of the Exhibition Narrative. This will be read aloud by the committee during the review process. 3. Statement of Purpose In 200 words or less please explain what purpose this exhibition will serve in relationship to your practice? Some questions you may want to address: - What will a public exhibition offer your practice as an artist that you are not currently getting out of your experience as a student? - What do you hope to learn through the process of installing and presenting your work at SUGs? 4. Artist Statement Please attach your 150-word artist statement. 5. Résumé or C.V. Please attach your 1-page artist résumé or C.V. 4

5 6. Checklist of artworks Please attach a list of the work in your Work Sample. The list should be illustrated with a thumbnail image of each piece. At the time of application we prefer at least 2/3 of the proposed work to be complete. Please include the following information in the following format for your checklist: The order of works MUST follow the order of images, video, or sound files in your Work Sample. Please clearly indicate whether this work will be shown in your proposed exhibition or if it is merely an example of work similar to what you propose to exhibit. For 2-D work please indicate how work will be framed or mounted. Artist(s) Name(s), Title of Work, (Year of Completion), Dimensions or Duration, Media (Must be specific o not use mixed media ), Work Sample File Name (See Work Sample guidelines for format.) Ex. John Smith, Loquacious Lorax, 2010, 11 x 17, oil, sequins, leaves, and apoxy on canvas, Smith_John01.jpg * This work will be stretched and hung on a wire. This work will be shown in my proposed exhibition. 7. Work Sample Please submit a sample of no more than 12 proposed artworks. Video or sound clips MUST not exceed 5 total minutes for all submitted clips. Your work sample should be submitted via CD or DVD along with the hardcopy of your application. As much as possible this sample should present work that you plan to exhibit. Where relevant, applicants may also include examples of work similar to what they plan to exhibit. When formatting your images for the Work Sample. Images MUST be formatted with a caption below the image. See the example below: 5

6 6 All digital files MUST be titled as follows. Work Samples that do not follow this format will not be considered. Last_First01.File Format Ex. Smith_John01.mp4 - All digital media must be Mac compatible. - For images, please submit only.jpg files - All files MUST be RGB, no more than 1024 pixels wide and 768 pixels high at 72 dpi and oriented to correctly represent the object. 8. Floor Plan 9. Budget Please attach an installation, event, and marketing budget for your show. SUGs will provide the following financial support. All other expenses are the sole responsibility of the exhibitor(s). Installation: $150 for paint and building supplies Publicity: $250 for Posters, Vinyl wall logo, and inclusion in the Spring 2011 exhibition pamphlet (The marketing materials will all be created in-house by the SUGs communications team. If you would like post-cards or other materials made for the exhibition, the cost is your responsibility and the design will have to be approved by SUGs.) Reception: $100 for refreshments
