The LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens at Burden is an oasis for garden and nature lovers in the heart of Baton Rouge, La. Situated on 440 acres of beautiful green space, it is one of the city s and state s greatest treasures. The mission of the Burden Horticulture Society is to promote, support and enhance the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens at Burden. Eligibility This show is open to all U.S. residents 17 years of age and older and to all art media except video and film. Works must be original, must have been produced in the past three years and must never have been exhibited in Brush With Burden. All artwork must be priced and available for sale. Please consider your framing expenses when pricing your piece. Submission The 2016 Brush with Burden Art Show and Sale s entry process will be conducted using CaFÉ (CallforEntry.org ), a Webbased service that allows artists to submit images and entry fees online. -Log on to callforentry.org to set up your artist profile. -Select Brush With Burden 2016 Art Exhibition. -Upload images. (These must first be added to your portfolio). 2 Entries A maximum of six entries will be accepted from any artist. File format: JPEG only. File dimensions: No smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side. File resolution: 72 ppi/dpi (standard Web resolution). File size: 5 megabytes maximum. Uploaded image should show artwork or photograph only. No framing should be visible. Works to be in the exhibition will be selected based on the digital images submitted. Only one digital image should be submitted for each piece. Maximum size of each piece of two-dimensional work, including frame, is 46 inches by 46 inches. The maximum for indoor three-dimensional works should be no more than 48 inches high and 18 inches wide. Outdoor Sculpture Requirements: All pieces must be structurally sound, made of durable materials appropriate for extended display in a public outdoor space and capable of being securely anchored. Artists need to plan appropriately for wind and other weather-related factors. Recommended size for outdoor sculptures is approximately 3 feet to 7 feet. No cranes or other heavy equipment will be allowed on the property for the placement of sculptures. All selected outdoor sculptures will be displayed until April 15. Any artwork that differs from the digital image will be disqualified. Fees A nonrefundable fee of $20 for one entry and $15 for each additional entry (up to six entries) should be submitted. All checks must be postmarked by Jan. 20, (Registration is not complete until fee is received.) Juror and Judge for Art Show Laurin McCracken is an internationally known watercolorist, a practicing architect and a published photographer. Born in Mississippi, currently residing in Fort Worth and traveling globally, he has received degrees from Rice University and Princeton University and studied at the Art League School in Alexandria, Va., and the Art Institute in Chicago. McCracken s paintings have been exhibited in juried shows across the country including the Niagara Frontier, Pittsburg, California and Southern watercolor societies, as well as the Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors and the American Watercolor Society. His paintings are in corporate and private collections including McGraw-Hill s Corporate Collection and the Urban Land Institute s collection. His photographs also are in the Graphics Art Collection of Princeton University. (www.lauringallery.com) Jurors and Judges for Photography Richard Sexton is known for his work as a photographer, artist, writer, critic, teacher and author, with more than 200,000 books in print, including Creole World: Photographs of New Orleans and the Latin American Sphere and New Roads and Old Rivers: Louisiana s Historic Pointe Coupee Parish, and publications in magazines and newspapers throughout the United States and Europe. His photographs are in public collections in New Orleans at The Historic New Orleans Collection, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art and the New Orleans Museum of Art, as well as in Baton Rouge at the LSU Museum of Art and in Lakeland, Fla., at the Polk Museum of Art. (www.richardsextonstudio.com) Thomas Neff is known for his work photographing landscapes, architecture and people. His gripping images of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina were mounted in 2006 in an exhibition by the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. The University of Missouri Press published the portraits and narratives in Holding Out and Hanging On: Surviving Hurricane Katrina. Neff is a professor emeritus from the LSU School of Art and his work is housed in permanent collections at the California Museum of Photography, the Houston Museum of Modern Art, the Louisiana State Museum and in numerous other university, college and private collections. 3 Reni Zietz, a native of New Orleans with a master of fine arts degree in photography, has been an instructor of photography at the LSU School of Art and has had work shown throughout the region. Since 1992, she has been an artist member of the Baton Rouge Gallery. Jim Zietz, director of photography for the LSU Office of Communications and University Relations, began as a student at LSU in 1975 and has been making photographs there continuously since then. His personal work has been exhibited in galleries and group shows around the region. Sales All artwork submitted must be priced for sale. A 25 percent commission will be assessed on all sales. Proceeds from the sale of artwork support initiatives of the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens. Brush With Burden Seminar March 12, 9 a.m.-noon Ione Burden Conference Center Mr. Laurin McCracken will conduct a seminar titled, Why and How I Paint Realism in Watercolor. The fee for the lecture is $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Advance registration is suggested, since seating will be limited.
