1 Request For Proposal for a Temporary Art Installation The Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) is seeking submission of five (5) proposals for Green Themed i temporary art installations using refrigerators as the basis for the artwork. The artwork will be displayed at various locations in OPPD s service area, tentatively starting at the old market or Qwest Center areas. The objective is to increase awareness of energy efficiency and recycling. The artwork must be finished and ready for installation by June 24 th, ABOUT THIS REQUEST Selection Process: Proposals will be evaluated by a panel consisting of members of the Omaha Public Art Commission and OPPD. Projects will be evaluated based on the following criteria: ARTISTIC MERIT: The proposed work provides a strong visual impact and the artist demonstrates proficiency in the proposed medium. SITE SUITABLITY: The proposed work fits into environments selected for installation, and will not endanger spectators. The artwork will be displayed outside, in high pedestrian areas. ENVIRONMENTAL MESSAGE: The proposed work communicates its message of environmental stewardship in a meaningful and clever manner. DURABILITY: The proposed work is to be constructed from durable materials suitable for outdoor installations. Pieces should not be easy to vandalize or difficult to maintain. ELIGBILITY: The project is open to all artists or design teams, age 19 and over, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, military status, sexual orientation, marital status, or physical or mental disability. BUDGET: The funding available to each artist is $2, After being selected the artist will receive $1, When the artwork is finished, the artist will be paid the remaining $ The artwork will be auctioned off after the program is over and the proceeds will be split 1/3 to the artist, 1/3 to the Omaha Public Art Commission and 1/3 to OPPD s Energy Assistance Program (EAP). INSURANCE: Liability insurance will be provided by OPPD or the contractor hired by OPPD to install the artwork on the concrete pads. INSTALLATION: The artist may be required to monitor the installation. OPPD will provide the concrete bases, signage and placement of the artwork after it is assembled. OPPD will supply the refrigerator for the artist to use.

2 MAINTENANCE: If artwork is damaged while on display, the artist and OPPD will work together to determine if repairs are needed. The artist will be given first right of refusal in repairing the artwork if needed. REMOVAL: OPPD will be responsible for moving, placing and storing the artwork. If damage occurs when moving, placing or storing the artwork OPPD will be responsible for repairs. DOCUMENTATION: The artists retain copyright of the artworks, but agree to grant to OPPD a royalty-free, perpetual license to use any depiction for any lawful purpose. APPLICATION CHECKLIST Please send the following information to apply. Digital/electronic submissions will be considered. Please submit all documents as PDFs, images use JPEGS, unless otherwise noted. Complete application Questionnaire: Please include the following information in a single PDF document. Please limit your response to 500 words or less per question. o Contact information: Name, Address, Telephone, , website o Briefly describe the proposed work, including all materials o Provide a brief artist statement for the proposed artwork explaining the intended impact of the artwork on the public o Briefly describe maintenance requirements for the artwork while on display. Current Artist Resume or CV References: Please provide the names, addresses and telephone numbers of two (2) people who are familiar with your work. Up to five (5) renderings of the proposed piece, digital images. Up to five (5) digital images of recent work, JPEGS no larger than 2000 pixels on largest side. Artists may submit more than one (1) proposal. Each submission must include both an application and supporting visual materials. The panel will select 5 artists/pieces based on the submission of both applications and supporting visual materials. Selections will be based on the criteria above, along with quality, creativity, and appropriateness for a Green Themed piece.

3 TIMELINE: Deadline for Submission: April 15, 2011 Artist will be informed of selection no later than ten (10) days after submittal deadline. The program reduces landfill requirements and lowers customer electrical consumption. The artwork must have a Green Theme. By that we mean it should have something to do with the environment, conservation or sustainability.
