1 NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN HOSPITALITY (OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT) WITH A STRAND IN FOOD & BEVERAGE OR ROOMS DIVISION MANAGEMENT Endorsed by the prestigious Tourism Industry Association (formerly New Zealand Hotels Council), the National Diploma in Hospitality (Operations Management) is for career focused Hospitality employees with industry experience, who want to acquire the knowledge and skills to step up to management level. The programme is suitable for people who hold, or aspire to hold, an operational manager s position. Intake Artisan delivers the National Diploma in Hospitality with a convenient rolling intake which enables applications for enrolment throughout the year. As part of Artisan s exclusive national contract to deliver the qualification for the industry training organisation Service IQ, the programme offers candidates an additional NZQA registered Leadership Communications component to develop effective managerial behavioural skills. Qualification Structure The qualification is designed for full time employees to complete within 18 months. Candidates are required to complete a series of modules, each with the following: 1. Compulsory 1 day workshops facilitated by Artisan trainers, to introduce the core content of each module, including group discussions on current industry practice and related issues, and challenging team projects for Candidates to complete in a lively meeting room environment. 2. Project work to be completed back at work, using each Candidate s work place as the learning environment. Workshop Structure in 3 monthly cycles Workshop 1. Module 1 - Operations Management Workshop 2. Module 2 - Staff Management Workshop 3. Modules 3 & 4 - On job training & workplace assessor training Workshop 4. Module 5A - F&B Management or Module 5B - Rooms Division Management Workshop 5. License Controller Qualification (for Rooms Division only) NZQA Registered Leadership Communications Development As part of the Leadership Communications component of the Diploma, candidates will develop behavioural skills and opportunities to communicate effectively as managers. Level 5 programs are run as business environments, and require all candidates to display a professional sense of urgency at all stages with respect to correspondence and module submission dates.

2 Additionally, Candidates are provided with the following: Structured confidential mentoring sessions with a dedicated Mentor throughout the course of the Diploma. Boardroom presentation skills sessions with feedback Strategies for motivational concepts and conflict resolution within team environments Leadership Communications Workshop Programme Workshop 1. Module 1 - Operations Management Communicating effectively with different personalities understanding the different personalities of guests and your team, and how to manage them effectively Leadership Strategies for managing operations successfully Understanding the 4 different strategies, and how to apply them in different situations Boardroom presentation skills - Introducing the fundamentals of how to speak confidently, plan and deliver an engaging presentation Workshop 2. Module 2 - Staff Management Interviewing skills for recruitment how to manage and conduct an interview, and question effectively to assess a candidate s suitability for a specific role. Performance Development & Management Understanding how to Plan an employee s professional development, and how to Manage non performing employees. Motivational strategies for individuals and teams Workshop 3. Modules 3 & 4 - On job training & workplace assessor training Unit standards 7108 on job training, & 4098 Workplace assessor training. Understanding different Learning styles & communicating effectively with individual learners. Workshop 4. Module 5A - F&B Management Delegation - Understanding the principles of delegation to maximise resources, manage time effectively, and develop individual skills within your team Managing conflict within teams and between departments Or Module 5B - Rooms Division Management Delegation - Understanding the principles of delegation to maximise resources, manage time effectively, and develop individual skills within your team Managing conflict within teams and between departments

3 Workshop 6. License Controller Qualification - Rooms Division (Strand B) only Unit standards cover legislative requirements for understanding the Sale and Supply Of Alcohol Act 2012, host responsibility as a duty manager in a licensed premises Assessment Coaching Upon enrolment, all Candidates are given 3 weeks to submit their first Unit, which will enable Artisan to critique the level of their assessment and provide valuable feedback to ensure it meets a Level 5 standard before submitting their first module. This will provide the added advantage of ensuring every new signup has first credits reported within a month. Candidate Assistance & Support Artisan s assessors are available at all stages of each Candidate s enrolment to provide guidance, assistance and advice for all module and assessment projects, either by , phone, Skype or face to face meetings.
