This fascinating study pack focuses on the knowledge and techniques you will need to become an effective Human Resources or Personnel Manager, and outlines the simple processes and procedures you need to put in place to get your team on side, the business running efficiently, and stay on the right side of the law. It also helps you to define your organisation s goals and aspirations, and how to communicate them in order to engage and enthuse others so that they too want the same or similar outcomes. This is what leadership is all about, whether at a team or organisational level, and you will learn it here! The materials are exhaustive and comprehensive. They teach you to understand the concepts and legalities of recruitment and selection, clearly explains applicable legislation (including the rights and obligations of both employees and employers) and how to manage employee relations. It also gives an insight into performance management, including how to properly record, monitor and review the performance of others, how to understand payroll administration, identify training needs (and then plan and deliver appropriate training) and much, much more. Although the materials are comprehensive and informative, we do expect you to carry out your own investigations. This is a non-regulated qualification which is endorsed by Focus Awards under the FQP scheme. They are not nationally recognised qualifications; on successful completion of your studies you will receive a Focus Awards Certificate of Achievement and a Diploma from Home Study Campus. Focus Awards is regulated as an Awarding Organisation by Ofqual, the qualification regulators for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Non-regulated qualifications endorsed under the FQP scheme are ideal for professionals required to demonstrate commitment to CPD (Continuous Professional Development), and for those wanting to gain specialist knowledge of a particular subject. What is working in human resources? Working in human resources is working closely with employees and their welfare. This can include hiring new employees and ensuring they have everything they need to work at full potential. Why did you decide to work in human resources? After leaving school I went straight into employment, I was first working in customer service where I was naturally a people person. I tended to take care of my colleagues and sort out their problems if they had issues with customer s etc. My manager noticed these skills I had and offered me a promotion to work in HR to be able to look after employees officially. What is involved in human resources on a day to day basis? Working in Human resources requires interviewing and hiring new employees. Records are made of new and existing employees where those that work in HR have to keep up to date. Human resources are responsible for staff training and development and arranging training courses to ensure employees are up to date in knowledge and skills within their practice. Human resources are responsible for the full welfare of employees such as health and safety. They may also have to deal with complaints and at times deal with disciplinary. What are the entry requirements for working in Human resources? There is no specific entry requirement s to work in human resources. However, employers will look for a standard education such as five GCSE s A*-C level, usually including maths and English and usually office experience. You would then need to

6 be willing to work towards (or already have) a qualification in human resource management. What can I expect to earn working in Human resources? Human resources administrators can earn - 15,000-19,000 a year. Starting salaries for human resources officers can earn 18,000-25,000 a year. Human resource managers can earn 25,000-50, 000 a year FAQS Why is there no telephone number on your website? We are living in an age of fast Internet communication and we have identified that most of our students communicate with us by . Once a student enrols on a course you will receive an confirming your tutor details and the ways you can communicate with them. A telephone number will be provided once you have enrolled. This enables you to pick up the phone and speak with a course adviser at anytime. Who is this for? The materials are designed to be studied from home by distance learning, at your own pace and in your own time. You will be introduced to the different forms of writing, shown how to develop your own style and research and deliver compelling content. In any form of writing, from articles and blog posts to novels and technical documents, content is key. What will I cover? Your studies will cover the areas of study listed above through detailed exploration of the subject matter. You will also receive tasks and prompts for further personal exploration and research to carry out so that you can gauge how much you have learned. There are plenty of examples to help you but personal research is a prerequisite, so be prepared to use your initiative to fully answer the assignments. Is it accredited? This is a non-regulated qualification endorsed by Focus Awards under the FQP scheme. Although the learning materials are comprehensive and informative, we do expect you to carry out your own investigations. After all, if you are not prepared to do your own research, you should be asking yourself if this is the right subject choice for you! Your work is not graded; assignments are simply identified as Pass, Fail or Referred. For assignments not passed at first attempt, your tutor will advise on the improvements to be made to obtain a Pass on a reworking. A certificate of

7 achievement will be issued by Focus Awards on successful completion of all the assignments. Is this a nationally recognised qualification? No, this is a non-regulated qualification which has been endorsed by Focus Awards under their FQP scheme What will my studies prepare me for? The learning materials and accompanying tasks will help you to develop the necessary knowledge and confidence to successfully complete the tutor marked assignments. The tasks are designed to encourage you to apply your knowledge, and help you to develop relevant research and academic writing skills. How do I send in my work? You your assignments one at a time for marking. This enables your tutor to properly assess the standard and style of your work for each section, and give you feedback which will be used on your next assignment; a process of continuous improvement. On obtaining feedback and comment you will either move on to the next assignment or review and rework the one you submitted. If I fail an assignment can I retake it? Yes, your tutor will ask you to resubmit your assignment and give you some pointers as to where you could improve. What do I receive once I enrol? We will send you ALL the learning materials. This consists of a folder and Study Guide, plus a package of bonus materials and items to enhance your learning experience. Is there a time limit or any deadlines? Your studies should be completed within 12 months, but can be extended for a small fee if your tutor supports your request. As a rough guide, depending on your circumstances and commitment, you can complete your studies in about 100 study hours. There are no other deadlines to meet. Is there a word count for my assignments? Although a word count is not given for the tutor marked assignments, it is important that you demonstrate to your tutor that you have fully understood the questions; a comprehensive Study Guide is included with your materials. Many students start slowly at first, but your tutor will give guidance to help and encourage you to improve.
