1 RCHARD HOUSE CHLDREN S HOSPCE Job Title Reporting to Staff reporting to you : Shop Manager : Head of Retail : Relief Shop Manager, shop volunteers, paid & volunteer van crews Vision Richard Houses vision is for communities to have space where they can journey together to create memories of living and dying. Core Purpose To accompany families with children and young people with life-limiting, life- threatening or complex health care conditions during the child or young person's journey through life to death, creating positive experiences along the way which become good memories for the future. Richard House is committed to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults. This post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check. Role summary To run a professional charity retail outlet leading and supporting a team of paid and voluntary staff in raising the profile of Richard House Children s Hospice in the community it serves. At the same time ensuring the Richard House shop you manage is the local charity shop of choice for donations. You will achieve this by providing the highest standard of shop presentation, optimum pricing, donor and customer care. To create positive relationships with other shop managers to help ensure best practice is established and maintained with reference to donor care in support of donated stock generation and management. To establish and manage effective logistical support for the Richard House retail operation to facilitate sustainable growth. The result of your efforts will be to run an efficient, cost effective distribution service, maximise profit and grow sustainable income to help Richard House develop the services it provides to the local community now and in the future. Specific Responsibilities Maximise profits and achieve shop targets. Recruit, train, manage and develop shop and van volunteers in their roles. Effectively manage the shop and van crew rotas to ensure there is adequate cover across all shifts and responsibilities. To be responsible for ongoing volunteer and staff training to the highest standard covering all appropriate Richard House policies and guidelines.
2 RCHARD HOUSE CHLDREN S HOSPCE Line manage and support the Relief Shop Manager and paid van crews via direct supervision to ensure shop practices and distribution service are of the highest standard at all times. Selectively process incoming donations in accordance with organisational guidelines. Ensure items of potential high value are recognised, values sought and alternative avenues of sale where higher prices may be achieved researched and presented to the Head of Retail for discussion. Oversee pre-sorting of all stock donated to the Barking shop and in conjunction with the Retail Manager redistribute to the most appropriate Richard House shop where the best prices can be achieved. Oversee daily van schedule to optimise the most cost effective use of the lease van over a six day week using paid and unpaid staff resource. Ensure the lease van obligations are met, the vehicle is safe, meets current UK road safety requirements and drivers have correct documentation and attend mandatory training. Provide the highest standard of donor and customer care at all times to include effective communication of retail Gift Aid to ensure optimal Gift Aid income. Be aware of local competitor activities and any other factors which may affect trade adversely or favourably and keep the head of retail informed of such activity. Be proactive in planning shop promotional activity and stock donation campaigns to ensure continuity of supply. Take responsibility for keeping up to date with all organisational promotions and communications via , Richard House newsletters and leaflets regularly distributed to shops. Ensure shop volunteer steams are kept informed accordingly. Work closely with other Richard House teams and external supporters as required to promote strategic initiatives and projects. Be fully conversant with, and adhere to, all Richard House policies/guidelines relating to cash handling, administration, merchandising, housekeeping, layout, display, rotation and pricing. Ensure that the general Richard House shop policy file is kept up to date and accessible to any shop team member. Keep all shop administration in orderly, easily accessible files and ensure that all returns are completed timely and accurately. Take responsibility for shop security (staff, premises, stock, money). Act as the main key holder in the event of an emergency keeping the head of retail or director of income generation informed of any issues.
3 RCHARD HOUSE CHLDREN S HOSPCE Take the lead on health and safety at the shop premises ensuring all shop checks are conducted and logged, conducting and reviewing risk assessments, reporting accidents and near misses as required. Be the first aid appointed person Provide sick and annual leave cover at other shop locations as is reasonably practical General Responsibilities Co-operate with all staff in maintaining good relationships with outside agencies and the general public in order to uphold the Charity's image and win increased support for its work. Promote the safety & wellbeing of all children/young people at Richard House. Maintain confidentiality in all areas of work at Richard House. Ensure that your conduct within and outside Richard House does not conflict with professional expectations. Actively support and promote Richard House values. To support Richard House in community engagement initiatives. Take responsibility for your continuing professional development. Co-operate with all staff in maintaining harmonious inter-personal relationships. Attend staff meetings and training as required. Ensure an awareness and observation of Fire and Health and Safety Regulations. Ensure the respect, dignity and rights to privacy of clients as far as possible. Participate in regular Supervision sessions with your Line Manager (and staff for whom you are responsible if applicable). Carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, the title of the post and its grading as requested by your Line Manager or his/her higher level of authority.
