1 Rights Respecting Behaviur Plicy 2016 Our visin is that Langrish Schl will lay the fundatins fr a life-lng learning jurney which prvides ur children with the tls t achieve happy, fulfilling and successful lives. Langrish Primary Schl is a Rights Respecting Schl, based upn the Cnventin fr the Rights f the Child. The rights within this cnventin cver basic needs including educatin, health, being heard and experiencing a safe and secure childhd. We believe that all children shuld grw up aware f these rights and respecting these rights fr themselves and fr thers. In cnsultatin with children, staff, parents and gvernrs, this plicy has been designed which aims t encurage children t learn, wrk and play tgether t maintain ur rights respecting eths. Being a Rights Respecting Schl underpins this whle schl plicy and we believe that this will prmte psitive behaviur and develp successful, respnsible citizens fr the future. Thrugh the year, Receptin will develp a class charter shwing the rights that they have and the things that they shuld d t respect these rights and the rights f thers. Whle Schl and Class Charters All members f the schl cmmunity have rles and respnsibilities in prmting and abiding by these principles. Within class this is prmted by the creatin f a class charter fr each class thrughut schl. Each charter is created by the children and staff within the class and all sign up t it, agreeing t respect the chsen rights fr themselves and thers with their respnsible behaviur. Our whle schl charter reflects the principles fr behaviur in the schl which have been agreed by the whle schl cmmunity. Sme f ur children in schl may have additinal needs where their behaviur is affected by difficulties with cmmunicatin, understanding, scial skills r emtinal needs. There may be times r unexpected situatins when they react in a way that is utside f the expectatins fr the majrity f the children within schl. Additinal supprt fr inapprpriate behaviur as a result f additinal needs is put in place thrugh an Individual Educatin Plan (IEP). The IEP will include supprt that may have been identified by the class teacher, Special Educatinal Needs and Disabilities Crdinatr (SENCO) r anther agency e.g. Educatinal Psychlgist may include a therapeutic interventin t help them becme mre cnfident have an increased ability t wrk with thers have a quiet time t help them t remain calm may have sme adult supprt identified at key times f the day in rder fr them t succeed will be tailred t an individual s needs and reviewed at regular intervals t make sure that they are making prgress can last fr a year r even lnger Hwever, this des nt mean that the child is unable t fllw mst f the schl behaviur plicy. If their behaviur chices cntinue t be utside f ur expectatins then a Persnal Supprt Plan (PSP) will be put in place t supprt the child and s prevent exclusin. Where a PSP is needed, schl will wrk clsely with parent/carers t prevent a pssible exclusin. The Persnal Supprt Plan (PSP) is a way fr schl and hme t wrk tgether lasts fr a shrt amunt f time, apprximately 6 weeks helps a child t becme aware f their behaviur and then t make the right chices has targets set with the child and parents/carers. When all the targets set have been achieved, the expectatin is that the child will n lnger need a PSP and can fllw schl expectatins. Rewards and Cnsequences Rewards will be implemented fr all children s that Rights Respecting behaviur is celebrated and acknwledged. Cnsequences fr inapprpriate behaviur chices will be enfrced s that all children understand that there will be cnsequences fr pr chices. 4

5 Rights Respecting Behaviur Plicy 2016 Whle schl rewards fr psitive behaviur Immediate praise will be given fr psitive behaviurs Stickers are used t give immediate praise fr psitive behaviur Huse pints awarded fr Langrish Ambassadrs EYFS cnsequences fr inapprpriate behaviur Cnsequences are nly given as a last resrt, in mst cases these can be avided thrugh adult supprt, interventins and gd rle mdelling Children will be given a clear explanatin f the cnsequence that might happen if they cntinue with an inapprpriate behaviur Cnsequences fr ur yung children are immediate and relatively shrt, reflectin time will be used within the classrm fllwed by a discussin with an adult Where behaviur is disrupting ther children r threatening their wn r thers safety, remval frm the grup r activity will take place and the child will be supprted by an adult. If this happens, parent/carers will be infrmed In the event that cncerns are raised we will cntact parent/carers and wrk with them t plan supprt fr their child s develpment KS1/KS2 cnsequences fr inapprpriate behaviur If a child in the classrm has t be reminded abut apprpriate behaviur they will receive a verbal warning explaining that their behaviur may be preventing thers frm having the rights that are included in their classrm charter. If such behaviur cntinues, they will be given a cpy f their class charter t read reminding them f the rights f every child in their class. Shuld a child nt respnd psitively t this they will then have t cmplete 10 minutes reflectin time either in an area within the classrm r at break/lunch time with the class teacher. The class teacher will fllw up the reflectin time with the child as sn as pssible discussing why they received a reflectin time, cmpleting a reflectin sheet with the child making clear the cnsequences shuld inapprpriate behaviur cntinue. This reflectin sheet will be shared with the parent/carer. Any child wh requires reflectin time will be recrded n their Target Tracker pastral page. At the end f each half term these will mnitred by a nminated member f SLT. If minr lw level behaviur presents itself this will be dealt with using individual classrm strategies t supprt gd chices and prevent children frm cnstantly requiring reflectin time. There will be nging dialgue with parents at the end f the day t ensure that there are n surprises. Cnsequence 1 st cnsequence Verbal warning with reference t the Class Charter 2 nd cnsequence Reflectin Time within the classrm and discussin with an adult 3 rd cnsequence Reflectin Time cmpleting reflectin sheet fllwed by a discussin with anther adult lgged nt TT, shared with parent/carer & at staff meeting 4 th cnsequence Frmal meeting between parents and class teacher t discuss strategies lgged n clured recrd sheet 5 th cnsequence Meeting between parents, class teacher and SLT We aim fr each child t have a fresh start each day. 5
