2 This dcument prvides relevant infrmatin fr submitting applicatins t the Call fr Prpsals fr Early Bird Prjects f the Carnegie Melln Prtugal Prgram. Because the current FCT Applicatin Frm is nt tailred t this call, the fllwing guidelines, althugh highly recmmended, are nt mandatry. The text belw explains hw yu can fit the applicatin details f this call in the current FCT Applicatin Frm. Applicatins t this call thrugh the FCT platfrm ( are a twstep prcess: 1. Cmpletin f the n-line FCT frm accrding t the fllwing guidelines and infrmatin available (please refer t the Terms f Reference fr the Early Bird Prjects Call fr Prpsals fr specific infrmatin). 2. Attachment f the Annex t Applicatin t item 9 f the n-line FCT frm with all the items requested in the Terms f Reference. The cntent f this dcument is f extreme relevance t the evaluatin panel as it was specifically created fr that purpse. Imprtant ntes: - All sectins f the FCT frm must be filled. - Due t the explratry nature f the prpsals, the amunt f infrmatin expected in the multiple parts f Sectin 3 Scientific Cmpnent is lwer, cmpared t a regular prpsal. Please see belw the call s specific guidelines fr Sectin 3, fr recmmendatins f hw t fit the infrmatin in the FCT frm. - Except where mentined all shuld be in English. - Please make sure that the text entered in the n-line frm is frmatted and cmprehensive. Sectin 1. Prject Descriptin / Sectin 2. Institutins and Their Rles Investigatrs applying fr cllabrative research grants must be rganized as an internatinal research team. One investigatr is designated as the Principal Applicant and the ther investigatrs as C- Applicants. The Principal Applicant will be lcated in Prtugal. The Principal Applicant will be respnsible fr crdinating the research n behalf f the team. He/she will als act as the team s liaisn with the Carnegie Melln Prtugal Prgram and FCT and will be required t submit a final budget and prgress reprt. 2

Scientific Cmpnent Sectin Length Cntent Suggested Available 3.1.a Executive summary (in Prtuguese) Include a synpsis f the prpsed prject, in Prtuguese, and a brief descriptin f hw the prpsal meets the bjectives f the CMU Prtugal Prgram. 3.1.b Executive summary Same as abve, but in English. 3.2 Technical Descriptin Literature Review State-f-the-art (different cntent accrding t the type f prject research, educatin r innvatin). Please highlight the team s prir wrk and cmpetences brught int the prject Research Plan and Methds Explain briefly: challenge t be addressed; methds that will be used; expected results; rles played by the partners; future expansin f prject gals and supprt frm gvernment agencies, cmpanies, industry cnsrtia, fundatins r financial investrs Tasks Use ne single task. The fllwing infrmatin shuld be prvided: - Task denminatin - Start date and duratin - Effrt (persns*mnth) - Descriptin f task and expected results - Members wh participate Prject Timeline and Management a Descriptin f the Management Structure List the PI and c-pis at each partner institutin; b Milestne List A single milestne is recmmended c Timeline A timeline with ne single task is recmmended. 3.3 Bibligraphic References 5 30 The recmmended maximum number is Past Publicatins 5 5 May include references fr up t 5 articles, if relevant fr the prject. 3

4 Sectin 4. Research Team Only members f the Prtuguese grups shuld be indicated in the FCT frm. T cmplete this, all members shuld btain the Public Key at the FCT SIG website. Others members f the team shuld be described in the "Annex t Applicatin" Sectin 5.1 Funded Prjects This sectin f the FCT frm shuld cncern nly Prtuguese grups. Sectin 6. Expected indicatrs This sectin f the FCT frm is applicable t the whle team (Prtuguese and internatinal members). Sectin 7. and 8. Budget and Budget Ratinale This sectin is applicable nly t the Prtuguese institutins participating in the call and it des nt invlve the Carnegie Melln University s team budget. Make sure the ttal budget des nt exceed the supprted funding. Sectin 9. Attachments Create and uplad a single pdf file Annex t Applicatin with the fllwing cntent: A cver page (nt exceeding ne page, Arial regular fnt, 11 pint) The cver page includes the title f the prject, the cntact infrmatin f the PIs, a list f C-PIs and ther key persnnel, the duratin f the prject, the ttal budget amunt (requested amunt and c-funding), five keywrds, a synpsis f the prpsed prject, and a brief descriptin f hw the prpsal meets the bjectives f the CMU Prtugal Prgram. A prject descriptin (nt exceeding three pages, Arial regular fnt, 11 pint) The descriptin shuld include sufficient detail that the reviewers can evaluate the apprpriateness and feasibility f the prpsed plan. The cntributins f each member f the team must be delineated. The descriptin shuld be as specific as pssible abut future expansin f prject gals and supprt frm gvernment agencies, cmpanies, industry cnsrtia, fundatins r financial investrs. The CV and publicatin list f the principal applicant and each c-applicant (fr each applicant, a maximum f 2 pages, Arial regular fnt, 11 pint, including a list f up t 10 f the mst relevant papers). Supprt letter(s) (fr each rganizatin, a maximum f 1 page, Arial regular fnt, 11 pint) Letters frm any surce(s) f matching funds must be included. Other letters f supprt may be included. 4
