The Award Prgram prvides funding t supprt clinicallyrelevant research in rthtics and prsthetics (O&P), including Fellwship Awards and Small Grant Awards OPERF Fellwship Awards The OPERF Fellwship Prgram is designed t supprt quality graduate educatin research related t the O&P prfessin. Fellwship Awards f up t $5,000 will be made available t meritrius and qualified students t supprt their graduate research. Tw Fellwship Awards will be ffered in OPERF Small Grant Award The OPERF Small Grant Prgram is designed t supprt quality investigatr-initiated research related t the O&P prfessin. Small grant funding f up t $25,000 will be made available t supprt meritrius and qualified investigatrs t cnduct nvel and clinically-relevant O&P research. One Small Grant Award will be ffered in This is a slicitatin fr pen submissins t the Award Prgram. O&P graduate students and investigatrs are encuraged t apply fr awards by the deadlines psted. Applicatins will be assessed based n relevance f the research tpic, scientific merit f the research design, and apprpriateness f the persnnel and envirnment. 2 Annuncement Number: OPERF-2015-FA-1 Fellwships The OPERF Fellwship Prgram is designed t supprt quality graduate educatin research related t the rthtics and prsthetics (O&P) prfessin. One-year Fellwships f up t $5,000 are given n an annual basis. Previus recipients may request a ne-year extensin (via cmpetitive renewal) f the fellwship perid and an additinal $5,000 t supprt lnger prjects. Fellwships will be awarded based upn the merit f the prpsed research prject (see OPERF Review Frm in Appendix I). OPERF has arranged fr award recipients t present their research at the American Academy f Orthtists and Prsthetists (AAOP) Natinal Meeting. The Academy has dnated cmplimentary registratin and speaking slts fr fellws t present their OPERF-spnsred research. Requirements: The student must be currently enrlled in a Masters and/r PhD educatinal prgram within the United States. The prject must be relevant t the rthtics and prsthetics prfessin. A Letter-f-Intent (LOI) is due in advance f the prpsal (see Funding Cycle, belw) Maximum f 1 page in length. Must briefly describe the prpsed research. The prpsal shuld be a maximum f 5 pages in length (12-pint fnt, 1 brders, single-spaced). Award specifics: Fellwship funds are intended t be used fr expenses related directly t the cnduct f the prpsed research prject and are nt t be used fr tuitin, bks, r supplies required fr the student s cursewrk. Award funds will be paid directly t the award recipient. N indirect (i.e., Facilities and Administrative) csts will be allwed. Any financial r tax liabilities assciated with accepting the award will be the respnsibility f the recipient. If human r animal subjects are included in the prpsed research, the applicant will be required t prvide evidence f Institutinal Review Bard (IRB) r Animal Care and Use Cmmittee (ACUC) apprval frm the hst institutin befre funds are disseminated. Apprval is nt due at the time f submissin, but will be required t receive award funds. The reprt shuld describe the fellw s prgress ver the prject perid and summarize expenditure f the award budget. Fellwship Award recipients will be respnsible fr submitting an abstract (based n the OPERFfunded research) t the OPERF Research Cmmittee Chair t be presented at the AAOP Natinal Meeting. The abstract shuld be frmatted using the template prvided by the Academy when the call fr papers is annunced (apprximately June in the year prir t the Annual Meeting). Upn acceptance f the AAOP abstract, Fellwship Award recipients are required t attend the AAOP Natinal Meeting and present their OPERF-funded research results. Cmplimentary meeting registratin has been dnated fr all OPERF award recipients. Airfare and ldgings fr the Natinal Meeting are the respnsibility f the award recipient and may be paid by the fellwship. A n-cst extensin perid f up t ne year may be requested by the award recipient prir t presenting the study results at the Academy meeting. Award recipients are encuraged t submit the results f their wrk as a manuscript t the Jurnal f Prsthetics and Orthtics (JPO) r anther peer-reviewed jurnal. Award recipients are required t acknwledge OPERF funding in any publicatin r presentatin f the funded research by including the fllwing statement: This wrk was supprted thrugh funds frm the Orthtics and Prsthetics Educatin and Research Fundatin, Inc. One-year Small Grants f up t $25,000 are given n an annual basis. Previus recipients may request a ne-year extensin (via cmpetitive renewal) f the award perid and an additinal $25,000 t supprt extended research prjects. Awards will be made based upn the merit f the prpsed research prject (see OPERF Review Frm in Appendix I). OPERF has arranged fr award recipients t present their research at the American Academy f Orthtists and Prsthetists (AAOP) Natinal Meeting. The Academy has dnated cmplimentary registratin and speaking slts fr investigatrs t present their OPERF-spnsred research. Requirements: The Principal Investigatr (PI) must have attained a dctral degree r prvide evidence f prir research experience. The hst institutin and the primary research site must be lcated within the United States. The prject must be relevant t the rthtics and prsthetics prfessin. The prpsed research must include a clinician trained in prsthetics and rthtics as the principal investigatr r c-investigatr. A Letter-f-Intent (LOI) is due in advance f the prpsal (see Funding Cycle, belw). Maximum f 1 page in length. Must briefly describe the prpsed research.
