Although currently in the process of review, the University's Corporate Plan for outlines our priorities and is available to download at The Human Resources Directorate The Human Resources (HR) Team have a pivotal role to play in ensuring that the University is able to meet its objectives within the Corporate Plan. The role of HR is to be a strategic partner providing professional long term strategic guidance and support to meet the evolving people management needs of the University. In order to fulfil our role as a Strategic Partner we need to ensure that we are business focused, flexible in our approach, delivering a quality proactive HR service that provides value for money. 2 The HR Directorate is led by the HR xecutive group: Phill Dixon - Director of HR Alan Dainty - Assistant Director Sarah Swales - Assistant Director The HR Directorate is organised into the following teams: HR Operations Recruitment and Reward People Development and Wellbeing People, Planning and Processes Team HR Administration HR Operations The team is led by the Assistant Director of Human Resources supported by the Head of HR Operations and the Head of HR Policy and Change. The team has five HR Managers who are assigned to a portfolio of Faculties and Directorates and provide senior level operational and strategic advice on the interpretation and application of HR policies, associated risk management, casework and support for change management. One of the HR Managers portfolios includes managing the team of Senior/HR Advisors. The Senior HR Advisor works in a pool of Senior HR Advisors/HR Advisors and delivers first line support to managers and University staff. You are responsible for providing consistent, professional and pragmatic advice on casework including investigations, disciplinary and grievance hearings, application of HR policies and change processes. You will also support managers in diagnosing and resolving casework issues offering appropriate professional support and advice, as well as being involved in policy development. Location City Campus This post is based at our City Campus which is situated next to Sheffield s train and coach stations and has easy access to the M1. It is in the heart of the city centre, next to shopping areas, art galleries, theatres, cinemas bars and cafés and the Winter Gardens. There is plenty to do and see in your lunch break or after work. 4 Job description Job Title Faculty/Dept Senior HR Advisor Human Resources Directorate Grade 7 Reports to Direct reports Role Purpose HR Manager N/A Responsible for the delivery of HR support to the University's business units as part of a team of HR Advisors, providing consistent and pragmatic professional advice on the application of HR policies, casework, investigations, disciplinary and grievance hearings, and change processes. Also have lead responsibility for particular projects/areas of work (e.g. policy development, change, casework MI). Generic responsibilities Work collaboratively to provide a consistent and professional HR service which supports the delivery of the University Strategy and local People Strategies. Deliver a service that enables managers to assume their responsibility for all aspects of people management issues. Contribute and support the future development of HR services and functions liaising with stakeholders as appropriate. Promote the University's quality and Diversity agenda as an integral part of all Directorate activity. Lead and/or contribute to relevant cross directorate initiatives in line with University Strategy priorities. nsure the appropriate escalation of issues and areas of concern to the relevant member of the HR Leadership Group. Role Specific Responsibilities Working as part of a team of HR Advisors to deliver a consistent and corporate HR service to the University's business units Responsible for the delivery of HR support to the University's business units, providing consistent and pragmatic , telephone and face to face professional advice on the application of HR policies, casework, investigations, disciplinary and grievance hearings, and change processes Support managers in diagnosing & resolving casework issues offering appropriate professional HR support and advice Page 4 of 10

5 Work with the other HR Advisors to share best practice and ensure implementation within the relevant business units. Support independent investigators and commissioning managers, as applicable, in the management of investigations and disciplinary and grievance hearings. Take the lead responsibility for particular projects/areas of work (e.g. policy development, change, casework MI) - reporting changes and ensuring progress made within agreed timescales Co-ordinate the resources and provide focus for those involved in delivering on area of lead responsibility Support change projects in liaison with the Head of HR Policy and Change Actively promote the people development and wellbeing service across the University at all levels Influence managers to recognise the importance of performance management stablish trust and credibility with customers and stakeholders and encourage an environment of open and transparent communication Promote best practice in all areas of performance management Provide consistent, professional advice and guidance on a range of HR issues Continuously update personal knowledge and skills keeping up to date with the legal changes in HR HR Operational Responsibilities Provide consistent professional advice to managers which supports the delivery of the Corporate Plan for a range of HR operational issues within a pool environment Contribute to the development of the service and policies through internal working groups Provide operational HR advice and contribute to casework management, investigations, disciplinary and grievance hearings and change projects Provide mentoring/professional support to colleagues on areas of expertise Support the delivery of University wide activities in line with corporate plan priorities e.g. outcomes from professional services review, partnership work Monitor progress against projects that have lead responsibility for providing regular progress reports to the relevant manager as required Page 5 of 10
