2 On September 25th 2015, governments around the world adopted 17 goals to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have been developed following an open consultation process led by the United Nations, governments have committed themselves to achieving these goals before The SDGs embrace a universal approach to the sustainable development agenda. They explicitly call on business to use creativity and innovation to address development challenges and recognize the need for governments to encourage sustainability reporting. The UN GCNN wants to use the meeting in Oslo to focus on the SDGs. The aim is to involve all members in how they individually and collectively can contribute to the goals and related them to their business. Maybe some of you already have started, if so you might be able to help other members of the network to get going. If not, this is your chance! During the meeting you will be presented ideas on how to relate the goals to your business. We will also provide room for discussions where you can get ideas from other members of the network. And of course, we will have interesting speakers who will provide examples from various sectors and inspire you to go back home and continue your work on the SDGs. DAY 1 His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon of Norway is highly engaged in the UN Sustainability Goals and the implementation of these. We are honored that His Royal Highness will open The UN Global Compact Summit in Oslo. Because of security matters every participant must attend the conference before and show identification at the registration desk at Statoil before entering the area. The Sustainable Development Goals explicitly call on business to use creativity and innovation to address development challenges and recognize the need for governments to encourage sustainability reporting. We will see examples of the new technologies emerging and a vision of what the future may look like.
