2 International Association of Refugee Law Judges European Chapter (IARLJ Europe) & The Norwegian Immigration Appeals Board (UNE) European Asylum Law - Protection Amidst Crisis More than ever before, refugee law is under scrutiny and reform in Europe today. The current crisis poses acute difficulties in operating the CEAS not least for judges. The conference will explore the implications of this crisis. Protection of refugees presupposes functioning states, but how should we deal with protection of refugees in weak or failed states? And what is protection? Protection provided by whom? Another theme is a wider understanding of human trafficking and what it means in terms of for example abusing people on the labour market. The question of issues of credibility in sexual and religious cases is still a topic with unresolved questions. In addition to these themes, the UNHCR and the EU will give us some views of the current situation during the conference.
