However, an intermediate level of written and oral English is strongly recommended, that is, the European level B2 in order to follow the course with no difficulty. DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA MATERIA/ASIGNATURA Justificación en el plan de estudios European integration and globalization are matters of great importance related to the linguistic and communicative competence in English language. The main objective of this subject is to respond to this demand by training future graduates to achieve a good communicative competence in English language and be able to know and apply the appropriate methodological tools and strategies for teaching English in Primary Education, so the student professional profile will fit the European foreign language teacher profile. Moreover, adequate knowledge of English will promote the mobility of our future graduates as it is a key factor in their professional development and job placement. Descripción del módulo en el que se ubica la materia / asignatura Module 2.4 in which the subject is taught - Reading and Writing (Catalan and Spanish) - Catalan - Spanish - English This subject area consists of 3 subjects of 3 credits each and 6 more subjects of 3 credits each: English Language Teaching Methodology is a compulsory subject to achieve the degree of Foreign Language Teaching (English) in Primary Education (1st, 6 credits). - English Language and its Didactics II, a compulsory subject to achieve the degree of Foreign Language Teaching (English) in Primary Education (2nd, 6credits). - English Language Teaching Methodology, an elective subject in the degree of Foreign Language Teaching (English) in Primary Education (3rd, 6credits). - English Language: Formal and Communicative Aspects, an elective subject in the degree of Foreign Language Teaching (English) in Primary Education (4th, 3credits). - English Language and Literature for Children, an elective subject in the degree of Foreign Language Teaching (English) in Primary Education 1 / 6

Relación con otras materias The contents and knowledge acquired in the subject are complementary to other subjects in the Degree of Primary Education. Relación con el perfil de la profesión The theoretical and practical contents of this subject will enable the students for the basic teaching of English as a second language in Primary Education. The contents of the subject English Language Teaching Methodology will provide the student with knowledge to use English in the classroom and allow exchanges and broaden their education in English speaking countries. English Language Teaching Methodology is a compulsory subject in the degree of Foreign Language Teaching (English) in Primary Education. Conocimientos previos necesarios All the lectures will be taught in English therefore students are expected an upper- intermediate level of English (B2 according to the European Framework of Languages) 2. OBJETIVOS/COMPETENCIAS (RESULTADOS DE APRENDIZAJE) - Know the principles, theories and techniques involved in teaching English as a foreign language. - Know how to apply these principles and techniques in a variety of contexts and situations. - Plan, design and select curricular activities for specific educational contexts. - Analyse and prepare teaching units for various teaching levels, specifying: objectives, contents, procedures and assessment. - Analyse and prepare materials and resources to develop linguistic and communicative competences in Primary Education. - Analyse teaching situations critically - Develop students oral and written communicative competences. - Develop strategies which promote autonomous learning. 4. CONTENIDOS 1. Methods and approaches in language teaching. 2. The English curriculum in Primary Education: objectives, contents, activities and evaluation. 3. Lesson planning in Primary Education according to the Basic Spanish Curriculum and the European Framework. 4. Developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. 5. Key competences in the English classroom. 6. Resources and materials in language teaching and learning. 7. Classroom English. 5. EVALUACIÓN Estrategias evaluativas Continuous Assessment in class The subject will be taught in English. Classes will vary from formal lectures to active students participation (open discussion, pair work, groupwork and presentations). The evaluation will be a continuous assessment through the collection of information provided by different means listed below: - Regular attendance, interest and participation in class. - Completion and accurate correction of the assigned activities (exercises, essays and oral presentations) - Progress in the English language. - Search and analysis of electronic resources. - Students will be assigned some readings and they are expected to read them in advance and provide insights and opinions. The communicative competence (presentations in class) will be assessed during the course. -A tutorial session before the presentation is compulsory. -Relevance, clarity and elegance of exposition, originality and critical judgement will all be taken into account. -Marks will be lost through poor contents and all kinds of language mistakes. -Compulsory attendance to seminars and oral presentations (both in group work sessions and peers presentations). Final written exam Proficiency in foreign language: correct expression, cohesion and good command of English B2 level. The exam will consist of two main parts of equal value: -A T/F exam covering the contents of the course (25%). -A second part consists of an essay question (25%). Marks will be lost through poor contents and all kinds of language mistakes. * To pass the subject, the student must obtain at least half of the points established in each assessment tool (oral part and final written exam). Continuous assessment marks will be added to the final mark. Marks will only be kept during the academic year. IMPORTANT - If a student fails to hand in an assignment or to show up on the date and at the time established by the lecturer for any activity which is part of the student s assessment programme, they will receive a 0 (zero) grade for this activity. - Those students, who fail the presentations during the semester, will have the opportunity to obtain the minimum standards taking an oral exam in September. - Failure to attend class (80% required) will affect the final grade. - Plagiarism / on line translator will be penalized with a zero (0) in the module mark. - Mobile phones and other electronic devices are NOT allowed in the classroom. Laptops are ONLY allowed if the practical session entails the use of the internet for pedagogical purposes and is specified by the lecturer. Those students, who have difficulty in attending class and have the requirements (according to the academic Act 46), should contact the professor to state the conditions of continuous assessment within a maximum period of 30 days from the beginning of the course. These students will have a different final test but the same workload as those of continuous assessment. 4 / 6

Maximum grade: 15% - Proficiency in foreign language communication and active participation in class. - Clear and coherent structure. - Originality and creativity. * If a student attends the seminars and makes the presentations but fails, he/she will have the opportunity to obtain the minimum standards taking an oral exam in September. Final written exam 50% 25% Can be retaken. -A T/F exam (25%) -An essay question (25%) *A minimum grade will be required in each part to pass the final written exam. *To pass the subject the student has to obtain at least the minimum standards both in the communicative competence and the final written exam.
