Los estudiantes practicarán las cuatro habilidades a un nivel de suficiencia. Habrá especial énfasis tanto en la precisión como en la fluidez. 3. GENERAL OBJECTIVE The students will be proficient in all the four language skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing) and the use of language. 4. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES 4.1. LISTENING/SPEAKING Students will be able to: a) Follow clearly articulated speech in everyday conversation b) Catch the main points in TV and radio programs c) Debate and dramatize d) Analyze and synthesize ideas e) Use academic/formal language when making a presentation f) Use proper intonation, stress and pronunciation g) Speculate about causes and consequences 4.2. READING Students will be able to: a) understand and respond to different authentic reading material b) understand the main conclusions in a text c) understand standard letters d) infer, analyze and synthesize main ideas and details e) understand words for the context f) understand articles on current problems 1

3 Escuela de Lenguas - Sección de Inglés Teléf.: Ext METHODOLOGY The methodology is centered in the student with a communicative approach when dealing with themes that are up-to-date, academic and varied in tone. Both form and content of the language will be addresses in a balanced way. To accomplish this, all language skills are integrated. This communicative approach appeals to a greater variety of learning styles. Open ended opinion and inference exercises invite students to share and discuss their answers. In Information Gap, Fieldwork and Presentation activities, students must present and solicit information and opinions from their peers as well as their communities which reflects the idea of cooperative learning. 7. ASSESSMENT 7.1. EVALUATION ACTIVITIES Students will be evaluated by using some of the following activities: - oral work, - group work - homework - presentations - written production - grammar and vocabulary exercises - reading controls - unit quizzes, - midterm oral and a written exam, - a final oral and a final written exam EVALUATION DATES From June 4 th to July 19 th, 2012 GRADING SYSTEM SCORE DATE DATES TO SUBMIT GRADES Classwork 1 Midterm written exam Midterm oral exam 10 points 5 points 5 points Total 20 points Thursday, June 21 st, 2012 Tuesday, June 26 th, 2012 Wednesday, June 27 th, 2012 From June 27 th, to July 3 rd, 2012 Classwork 2 10 points Friday, July 13 th, 2012 Final written exam Final oral exam 10 points 10 points Wednesday, July 18 th, 2012 Thursday, July 19 th, 2012 From July 19 th to July 23 rd, Total 20 points Important note: If a student misses a quiz which forms part of the grade for class work or misses to hand in a piece of homework, then it is up to the teacher to allow the student to take the quiz 3

The grade for class work has to be submitted 3 days before the final exam ATTENDANCE Students are permitted up to TEN absences per course. If a student is more than 10 minutes late, s/he is considered to be absent. If a student has ELEVEN to TWENTY absences, s/he has to obtain 40 points over 50 to pass the course. 8.
