Curses Available t Yu Displays yur curses by semester. Curses yu hide d nt appear in this blck. Navigatin Displays all yur curses. Hidden curses appear greyed ut at the bttm. 2 Curse Frmat and Tpics Curse Frmat - Change frmat f yur curse thrugh Settings blck > Edit Settings. In the Frmat field, select ne f the fllwing: Flder View, Tpics, r Weekly. D nt use the ther curse frmats. Adding/Deleting Tpics - T add tpics, g t Settings blck > Edit settings and increase yur number f tpics in the Number f Weeks/Tpics field n the Edit curse settings page. T delete tpics, click and drag yur blank (extra) tpics t the bttm f yur page and then g t Settings blck > Edit Settings and reduce yur number f tpics in the Number f Weeks/Tpics field n the Edit Settings page. Hide/Unhide Curse - T hide/unhide a curse frm students, g t Settings blck > Edit Settings. T hide the curse, change the Availability field value t: This curse is nt available t students. T unhide the curse, change the Availability field value t: This curse is available t students. Nte: If yu hide yur curse it will nt shw up under My Curses n yur Mdle hme page. Yu will need t access the hidden curse using the Navigatin blck n the right side f yur Mdle hme page. Prfile (Optinal) Click n the link with yur name in the tp right crner f the page. In the settings blck, click Edit Prfile link. Uplad a picture and prvide a brief statement abut yurself. Separate interests by cmmas t turn them int hypertext links that link yu t thers in class with the same interest. Files Mving Files and Flders With editing n, yu can mve files and flders by clicking and dragging this symbl. Deleting Files and Flders With editing n, yu can delete files and flders with this symbl. Renaming Files and Flders With editing n, yu can rename files and flders with this symbl. Press Enter t save changes. Uplading Multiple Files With editing n, yu can drag ne r mre files frm yur desktp and drp them int the cntent area t uplad them. T select multiple files, hld dwn the CTRL key, and left-click each file yu want t select. Then drag the grup f files t yur Mdle page. Uplading a Flder There are tw ways t put flders n yur Mdle page. 1. Create the flder in Mdle. Press the icn, and select Flder. Then drag multiple files int the flder. 2. The secnd ptin fr creating flders is t create the flder and subflders and add files t the flders n yur cmputer s desktp; zip the flder by right-clicking the flder and selecting Send T > Cmpressed (Zipped) Flder; and drag the.zip file that is created int yur Mdle curse. Press OK when Mdle asks yu if yu want t unzip the file back t flders in yur Mdle class. Changing the Cntents f a Flder in Mdle Adding files t flders- After a flder is created in Mdle, yu can drag additinal files int the flder by navigating int the flder, clicking the Edit buttn, and dragging new files in. 3 Deleting files in flders - Yu can delete files frm a Mdle flder by navigating int the flder, clicking the Edit buttn, left-clicking the file, and clicking the Delete buttn. Make sure t click the Save buttn. Renaming files in flders Yu can rename a file in a flder by navigating int the flder, clicking the Edit buttn, left-clicking the file, changing the name in the Name field (D nt delete the file extensin [e.g.,.dcx].), and clicking the Update buttn. Changing the Cntents f a File in Mdle Yu cannt change a file (like a Wrd dc) in Mdle. Yu must delete the file frm Mdle, change it n yur cmputer, and re-uplad the file t Mdle. This may break links yu created t the file. Legacy Files Never uplad a file t this flder. This flder hlds the cnverted cntents f yur ld files flder. New Mdle has a different way f handling files. Yu shuld never need t tuch the files in this flder. Blcks - Blcks prvide varying kinds f infrmatin useful fr students and faculty. The Calendar, Settings, Curses Available T Yu, Activities, Peple, My Private Files, Syllabus, Curse Overview, and Quickmail Navigatin are called permanent blcks. This means they cannt be deleted frm yur curse; hwever, they can be mved t a different lcatin in yur curse r dcked. Yu can add additinal blcks t yur curse by selecting a blck in the Add Blcks field in the lwer, left-hand clumn f yur Mdle curse. (Make sure Editing is turned n first. Yu can als add blcks t yur hme page. Permanent Blcks Calendar This blck displays the fllwing events: Curse - Event viewable nly t curse members. Created by instructr. Grups - Event viewable nly by members f a grup. Created by instructr. User - Persnal event any user can create. Viewable nly by the user wh created it. Settings Thrugh this blck, yu can cntrl curse settings, access grades, access yur prfile, and run jule reprts n student activity in Mdle. The cntents f this blck change depending n what page yu navigate t in Mdle. E.g., If yu pen an assignment, advanced frum, r quiz, the Settings blck s links change, and yu can edit the settings f the assignment, advanced frum, r quiz. Attendance T use the Attendance feature, yu must als add an Attendance activity t yur class by ging t Add an activity r resurce mdule > Attendance. Curses Available t Yu/My Curses Prvides hypertext links t the curses yu are teaching r are enrlled in. Activities - Lists and prvides links t the different activities yu added t yur curse (Advanced Frums, Quizzes, Assignments, etc.). Whenever yu add a different activity r resurce t yur curse, an icn appears in this blck representing the specific Mdle mdule fr quick viewing. 4 Quickmail Mdle s client. s can nly be sent thrugh Quickmail. s are nt received in Quickmail. Instead, s are received thrugh Outlk Exchange (faculty) and student . Syllabus Cntains a link that allws yu t uplad yur syllabus t Prfessinal Supprt Services. Navigatin Cntains a tree-view f links t all classes yu are teaching r participating in. Hidden classes appear greyed ut at the bttm f the list. Recmmended blcks Try adding sme (nt all) f these blcks t yur curse. Latest news - When yu add a tpic t yur Annuncements discussin grup (in the first sectin f yur curse), it appears in this blck. HTML Yu can add text, pictures, vides, links, etc. t this blck. It s like a mini web page. Can add as many HTML blcks as yu wuld like. Online Users Shws which class members are lgged int Mdle right nw. Upcming Events Shws details abut upcming events yu entered in yur calendar. Cmments Allw students t leave cmments fr class t see with a Twitter-like display. Attendance Track class attendance thrugh this blck. Nte yu must first add the attendance activity n yur Mdle page befre using this blck. Peple Shws a list f students in yur curse. If grups are used, it displays the members f each grup. Cntent Area Editing - Yu must click the Turn Editing On buttn befre yu can add cntents, assignments, files, r mdify blcks. Edit Summary Areas - Yur curse has an intr area at the tp f the page that cntains a single paper/pencil icn. There is als a single paper/pencil icn at the tp f each tpic. Only use these edit summary areas t add brief infrmatin like dates and class lcatins. Labels - Use labels! Press the icn and select Label. Labels are like mini web pages and are the fundatin f the cntent yu present n yur curse hme page. Yu can add headings, paragraphs, pictures, mvies, etc. using labels. Fnts In the text editr, avid selecting a fnt size larger than 18 pints. The letters f larger sizes get smashed tgether. Graphics Insert pictures thrugh labels. Click the picture icn and brwse t uplad images. Cpying, Cutting, and Pasting Text in Mdle s Editr Use the fllwing shrtcuts. D nt right-click. Adding Resurces - The Add an Activity r Resurce icn tp f every tpic. appears at the Recmmended Resurces Label - Labels are like mini web pages. Page If yu have a lt f cntent n yur hme page, cnsider putting sme f that cntent in Mdle pages that branch ff f yur main page. Yu can insert text, pictures, links and vides in a page. File A file is used as a curse resurce fr student learning. Yu can manually uplad a file t yur class using this functin, but it is typically easier t simply drag and drp a file int a tpic when editing is turned n. URL A link t a website t enhance student learning Flder A shared uplading space fr a series f files n ne tpic. First create a flder, then drag and drp multiple files int it. Bk Create a multi-page bk students can navigate thrugh. Can cntain text, pictures, links and vides. Activities Add an activity using the Add an Activity r Resurce icn tp f every tpic. at the Recmmended Activities Advanced Frum Discussin grup fr class. Frum Type shuld be a Single Simple Frum. Peple wh are subscribed t a frum receive an each time smene psts t the frum. Use Advanced Frum, nt Frum. Assignment This is an activity yu create where students can submit files t yu r type directly int Mdle, and yu can type r uplad feedback t students. When creating an assignment, select the fllwing: Allw Submissins Frm When the assignment pens t students. Uncheck Enable t pen the assignment immediately. Due Date When the assignment is due (date appears n calendar). Uncheck Enable t disable the due date. Cut-Off Date The assignment clses t student uplads and submissins n this date. Uncheck Enable t leave the assignment pen t submissin uplads frm students indefinitely. Nte: Yu can give individual students deadline extensins r unlck the assignment fr a particular student. Online Text Select Yes t allw students t type assignment directly int Mdle. File Submissins Select Yes t allw students t uplad files t yu. Feedback Cmments Select Yes t type feedback t students directly int Mdle. Feedback Files Select Yes t uplad feedback files t students.
