2 Graduatin Instructins fr Students Date and Time f Cmmencement Ceremny Wednesday, May 4 th at 7:00 p.m. in the Cavalier Arena. The Health Sciences Divisin will cnduct a Pinning Ceremny in the Cavalier Arena frm 3:00 p.m. t 4:00 p.m. The Nursing Divisin will cnduct a Pinning Ceremny in the Cavalier Arena frm 4:30 p.m. t 6:00 p.m. Prir t Cmmencement Graduates must arrive at the Health Sciences building n later than 6:00 p.m. t prepare fr the prcessin. Please lk fr directinal signage. Graduates will assemble in the multi-purpse rms in the Health Sciences building (J building). Students will nt assemble in the Cavalier Arena. There is n rehearsal; please make arrangements t arrive n time s that yu will knw what t d fr the ceremny. Check fr rw assignments psted in the J Building. Staff will be there t assist. Once in yur crrect line, yu will be given a card with yur name and degree listed n it. Please d nt write n the card r misplace the card. Remain in yur line and be prepared t prcess in the psted rder beginning at 6:45p.m. Any graduates arriving late must see the graduatin crdinatr befre getting in line. Guests Invitatins are nt required fr the ceremny and there is n limit n number f guests. Guests must arrive by 6:00 p.m. t give ample time fr parking and being seated befre the ceremny begins. Seating fr cmmencement/graduatin ceremny pens at apprximately 6:20 p.m. Handicapped Access/Special Needs Seating Any graduate requesting special accmmdatins shuld cntact Martha Snw r Eleanr Adair at befre April 22 nd. Any graduate wh has guests that will need special seating arrangements shuld cntact Martha Snw r Eleanr Adair at befre April 29 th. Cap and Gwn Distributin Students may pick up their cap and gwn frm the bkstre during the times listed belw. If yu are unable t pick it up during these times, please cntact Arnld DeJesus at Thursday, April 28 th -Wednesday, May 4 th 7:30 a.m. 7:30 p.m. Dress Arrive n later than 6:00 p.m., crrectly dressed in caps and gwns. Female candidates shuld wear dark shes and dresses f length that will nt shw belw the hemlines f the graduatin gwn. Graduates will be walking acrss campus therefre cmfrtable shes are highly suggested. Male candidates shuld wear dark slacks and apprpriate dark shes. Male graduates shuld remve their caps during the Natinal Anthem. Male graduates shuld als fllw the lead f the President as t when t remve graduatin yur cap during ceremny.

3 During Cmmencement The Graduatin Ceremny begins prmptly at 7:00 p.m. Please listen clsely t the speaker t knw when it is time t stand. Degrees will be called ut in the fllwing Order: Bachelrs f Nursing Assciate f Arts Assciate f Science Assciate f Health Careers Assciate f Applied Science Certificates When asked t stand by degree, please refer t yur card fr when yu are t stand. Yur degree type will be lcated at the arrw: De, Jane Assciate f Arts Watch fr rw mnitrs t assist with standing and mving twards stage. Hand yur name card t the persn calling names as yu apprach the pdium. When yur name is called, walk acrss the stage, shake the President s hand, receive a diplma case, pause fr phtgraphy, leave stage and pse nce again fr phtgraphy befre returning t yur seat. When returning t yur rw, remain standing until all graduates n yur rw have returned. When the last persn n the rw returns, he entire rw is seated at the same time. Be respectful f ther graduates and the audience by staying in yur seat befre and after yu leave the stage. After Cmmencement The stage party exits first. The Grand Marshall will assist with the departure rder. Upn exit, please mve away frm the building as yu march ut t make rm fr all graduates t march ut. 4 Presenting the Candidates and Cnferring the Degrees As part f the pre-prcessinal line-up prcedure, each candidate will be given a card bearing his/her name and hnrs infrmatin as apprpriate. Candidates will hand this card t the apprpriate Academic Chair just prir t ging n the stage t receive his/her diplma r certificate cver. Candidates will be presented t the President by the Vice President fr Academic Affairs by type f degree t be received. Each will then g frward t receive the diplma r certificate cver as his/her name is called. Dr. Ormnd: "Will the candidates fr the Bachelrs f Science in Nursing degree please rise. Student Prcedures First rw will rise when their degree type is called, and, led by first graduate, prceed t flr lectern and will hand name card t the Academic Chair. Names will be read frm these cards, each graduate presenting his/her card in turn. Secnd rw will rise as first rw returns t riginal seats. a. T receive diplma cver, first rw rises when directed. Graduatin Marshall/rw mnitr will direct next rw when it is time t rise. When rw is filled, first rw sits dwn, third rw stands, and s n. After receiving the diplma cver, the graduate returns t the rw where he/she riginated. The entire rw will remain standing until the last persn n the rw has returned t his/her seat. When the last persn returns, the entire rw is seated. The idea is t maintain a cnstant flw with nly tw rws standing at a time and t maintain an endless line frm the standing rw t the Dean. b. Graduates reach fr diplma cver with left hand and reach fr President's hand with right hand. c. A cmmercial phtgrapher will snap a phtgraph as the diplma is received and nce the graduate leaves the stage. d. Student will return t next available pen seat in their rw.
