2 Calendar of Events 22 ND ANNUAL WHITE RIBBON CAMPAIGN March 1-31, 2016 During the month of March, thousands of Central New Yorkers will be wearing a white ribbon or white wristband to raise awareness about domestic and sexual violence. The Campaign is led by men and encourages all members of the community to join them in their efforts. This male leadership helps to acknowledge the important contributions men have made to this effort and invites others to take a role. ANNUAL RECOGNITION & CELEBRATION LUNCHEON June 16, 2016 Join us for the presentation of the Sister Mary Vera Recognition Award and the Vera House Special Appreciation Awards, as we gather for this wonderful luncheon to honor and celebrate all those whose generous spirits embrace the mission of Vera House throughout the year! 3 White Ribbon Campaign The Vera House Foundation 22 nd Annual White Ribbon Campaign will be held March 1-31, The Campaign is designed to raise awareness about domestic & sexual violence and raise funds for our education and prevention programs and services. Each year the White Ribbon Campaign involves more than 40,000 individuals in the greater Syracuse community. The White Ribbon Campaign is led by concerned men who invite and encourage all members of the community to pin on a ribbon and help end domestic & sexual violence. White Ribbon Campaign Kick-Off Walk Friday, March 4 th Clinton Square - 12 p.m. Join us at noon for a short walk from Clinton Square through Armory Square, where we will tie white ribbons around trees and lampposts to celebrate the beginning of the Campaign. Stand With Us and help us reinforce our message that there is no excuse for abuse in any relationship. East Syracuse This luncheon welcomes about 300 guests to highlight the special contributions community members & volunteers have made throughout the year to Vera House. Appreciation awards are presented to individuals and organizations who have demonstrated a commitment to the work of Vera House. The Vera House Board of Directors also presents the Sr. Mary Vera Award to a member of the community that has made a significant contribution to those affected by domestic and sexual violence. The individual recognized will have performed this work in a manner consistent with the humility, gentleness and humanitarian spirit demonstrated by Sr. Mary Vera, who was one of the founders and a longtime supporter of Vera House. To navigate the challenging economic climate of 2016, your support is needed now more than ever before. Cuts to federal, state and county funding threaten the sustainability of core Vera House programs and services. To offer the same quality of advocacy, support and education, please consider directing your funding to a specific program listed below. EMERGENCY SHELTER Comprehensive emergency sheltering services for individuals and families in crisis, at two confidential locations. NEW DIRECTIONS: RAPE CRISIS & SEXUAL ASSAULT SERVICES Services include 24-hour crisis response, individual, family and group counseling, medical advocacy, and information & referral for victims of sexual assault. OUTREACH & ADVOCACY Short-term counseling, support groups, and advocacy with legal, medical and social systems for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other crimes. YOUTH COUNSELING SERVICES Specialized individual, family and group counseling services to meet the unique needs of youth affected by sexual abuse and/or domestic violence. COMMUNITY & YOUTH PREVENTION AND EDUCATION School-based, community and professional education programs are offered on a variety of topics including sexual abuse prevention, domestic violence awareness, healthy relationships, dating violence and elder abuse. ALTERNATIVES AND STEPS A 15-class domestic violence education and accountability program designed to challenge the beliefs and attitudes of individuals who have been abusive to their partners and/or ex-partners.
