1 CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (Release 4) Course Brochure Traineeship (NSW/TAS) Introduction Campbell Page Employment and Training is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO number 60162) registered with the Australian Skills Quality Authority. Campbell Page Employment and Training offers the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care as a traineeship in NSW and Tasmania over a 24 month period. This program provides trainees with the skills and knowledge required to provide care for individual and groups of children. This includes planning activities, facilitating their leisure and play and enabling them to achieve their developmental outcomes. If you work in or wish to pursue a career within the child care industry, this is the program for you. This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of early childhood education settings. Trainees will learn to support the implementation of an approved learning framework, support children s wellbeing, learning and development. Depending on the setting, educators may work under direct supervision or autonomously in a range of child care facilities such as full day care centres, occasional care facilities, crèches and early learning centres as an Early Childhood Educator. 2 Units of Competency The Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care comprises 18 units of competency: 15 core; and 3 electives. Negotiation is to be conducted between the trainee, trainer and assessor and employer regarding the elective competencies to be undertaken, depending upon the pathway chosen. 3 National recognition These competencies have been drawn from the nationally endorsed industry training package, the Community Services Training Package (CHC). On successfully completing the training and assessment, the qualification CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care will be issued. A transcript listing all units of competency will also be issued. The qualification and units of competency are nationally recognised and provide individuals with a valuable qualification that can be applied throughout Australia and the wider children s services community. Campbell Page Employment and Training will issue a qualification within 30 days of the final assessment being completed. Program outline The program, delivered as a traineeship, is delivered over a period of 24 months on-thejob. Campbell Page will assist workplace supervisors to oversee the trainees work and assist supervisors to set on-the-job training goals. Program content is delivered via workbooks/online for trainees and Campbell Page will negotiate with the employer time away from the normal work routine for trainees to work on these. Trainees will be required to develop a portfolio of evidence while in the workplace which will be reviewed as supplementary evidence demonstrating development of skills over a period of learning. Campbell Page will assess the skills of trainees by conducting and recording observations in the workplace, assessing underpinning knowledge through a series of questions based around the units and any additional requirements of the employer. Third Party reports will be developed by Campbell Page to obtain feedback from workplace supervisors on every day work practices. The course will be delivered through integration of units of competency with real life practical projects. Each of the units will include theoretical and practical assessments. Participants will be provided with professionally presented reference material to assist them to develop their knowledge of the subject. Expected duration The qualification is designed to be delivered over a 24 month period. Campbell Page Employment and Training is able to support participants that need additional time and can assist those participants that require assistance with language, literacy and numeracy (LL&N). Assessment requirements Campbell Page Employment & Training will assess the skills of trainees by conducting observations of relevant tasks and processes in the workplace, assessing underpinning knowledge through a series of questions based around the units of competency and any Course Brochure CHC30113 Certificate III ECEC - Traineeship Page 3

4 unique requirements of the employer. Third Party reports developed by Campbell Page Employment & Training obtain feedback from workplace supervisors on every day work practices to assist with assessing units of competency. The following provides a brief explanation of the assessment methods that are to be applied: Demonstration/Role-Play: The trainee is required to demonstrate a range of skills whilst being observed by, or interacting with, the assessor. These activities will be clearly explained and always relate to duties relevant to the workplace. These activities allow the assessor to observe the trainee apply their knowledge and skills during practical activity. Written Report/Case Study/Journal: The trainee is required to produce a range of written records or reports based on real workplace scenarios or based on a case study that is provided by the assessor. Project: The trainee is required to undertake a range of projects based on a work place project that is provided by their work place supervisor in consultation with the Campbell Page assessor. A project will require the creation of various documents (reports, memos, etc.). Projects will often have a practical presentation component where the trainee will be asked to present the outcomes of their project. Knowledge Test: The trainee is required to undertake a number of written knowledge tests over the course of his or her study. The trainee may research their answers from the course training materials and notes as well as relevant workplace references. Workplace Supervisor Report: Workplace supervisors will be asked to provide feedback about the trainee s performance. The supervisor will receive support from our trainer and assessor throughout the traineeship period. Entry requirements There are no specified entry requirements for this training program. Working with Children Check All persons working in an early childhood services must have a current Working with Children Check issued by the relevant State or Territory in which they work. Application for a Working with Children check is included within this course. Recognition of Prior Learning Applicants can apply for recognition of their existing skills and knowledge that are relevant to the units of competency within the program. These skills and knowledge may have been obtained through workplace training or experience and may reduce the number of units required to be completed during the program. 5 to notify Campbell Page Employment and Training of their interest or intention to apply for RPL prior to their enrolment. Credit Transfer will be granted for trainees who have already achieved units and can show Certificates/Statements of Attainment which will be verified by contacting the appropriate RTO. For those trainees who achieve RPL or credit transfer, the duration of their training will be reduced accordingly. This booklet contains important information about a learner (trainee s) rights and obligations such as their right to privacy, a safe training environment and the right to complain or appeal an assessment decision.
