2 Course overview NATIONAL COURSE CODE: CHC42015 COURSE NAME: Certificate IV in Community Services This qualification covers workers who provide a range of services and interventions to clients living with a mental health condition or a disability, and/or who implement community education and interventions. Work may take place in a range of contexts such as community-based organisations, residential rehabilitation services and outreach services where workers may have supervisory responsibilities. Apply knowledge and skills gained through qualifications and/or previous experience to provide training and support to people living with mental health issues, to empower clients to achieve self-reliance and reach their goals. Workers at this level are required to have an understanding of Indigenous culture and history and to work with local communities in the provision of services. This course combines theory along with practical experience with a compulsory work placement component. When is the next course? Enrolments are open now. All resources are costed and included in detail on the fee schedule on the Albury Wodonga Community College website. You will be provided with all required elearning resources, work booklets, a polo shirt for work placement, USB stick and welcome packs as part of your resources costs. There are no hidden costs; they are all clearly detailed on the fee schedule. How can I complete this course? At the Albury Wodonga Community College we strive to deliver quality courses that are convenient to your needs. This course is offered on campus with simulated based training. There is no mandatory work placement required for this qualification. Page 1 of 8

3 What assessments will I be required to complete? You will need to: Attend and participate in all classes unless otherwise arranged with the Department Coordinator Competently complete compulsory practical training and observation simulated assessment Competently complete all assessment activities including allocated tasks, projects, scenarios, case studies, questions and work books As a component of this course you will be required to complete some hours of practical and simulated training conducted on site at AWCC. The Department Coordinator will discuss this with you at your pre-enrolment interview. As an adult learner you are to raise any concerns or problems that you may have in regards to completing any aspect of the course as soon as possible with your Trainer and Assessor or Department Coordinator to ensure actions can be put in place. What is required for Simulated Assessment? As a component of this course you will be required to complete some Simulated Workshops; this will assist you to prepared for the final assessment, the Department Coordinator will organise this and students will be advised on the training plan. Students will be required to complete a series of practical simulated tasks, this will provide students with hands-on practical implementation of skills before completing the simulated final assessment. The specific aims of simulation are: To apply knowledge and skills learned during your studies To become familiar with industry expectations Provide one-to-one client/caseworker experience What costs are involved? Our costs for this course are clearly detailed on our Schedule of Fees located on our website. Please read the information below to help determine if you might be eligible for state funding through the *VTG incentives. Course costs include all materials and resources required; and information relating to non-refundable deposits. *Victoria Training Guarantee Eligibility Training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding to eligible individuals. To claim funding you must first meet the eligibility criteria. Visit the Victorian Department Education and Early Childhood Development website for further information regarding funding under the Victorian Training Guarantee Your eligibility will be assessed on an individual basis. What support will be available? Each course has a dedicated Department Coordinator to support you through your course. In addition to this, you will have one or more Trainers and Assessors who teach, assess and support you throughout your course. All our staff are highly qualified Trainers and Assessors and specialists in the field they are teaching so they can offer you the most current and comprehensive knowledge to complete your course in readiness for industry. 4 Are any prerequisites required? Course Application Form: Self-assessment information is collected in the Pre-Interview Questionnaire. This is reviewed and discussed in the pre-enrolment interview with each individual. Pre-enrolment interviews: These are conducted with every student to determine their competency and suitability to complete the course. Should learning assistance be required individualised plans are put in place for students. Language, Literacy and Numeracy: Under the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) Standards, our organisation is required to assess the language, literacy and numeracy skills of all prospective students in order to determine the LLN skill level each prospective student has according to the demands of the course program the student is seeking to undertake. This accredited LLN tool will be completed as part of the pre-enrolment process. Candidates seeking to undertake this course must have: Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course Basic computer knowledge and ready access to a computer Basic internet knowledge and ready access to the internet Working with Children Check On commencement of this course all candidates are required to complete/have a current New South Wales or Victorian Working with Children Check (dependent on which State work is undertaken) National Police Check On commencement of this course all candidates are required to complete/have a current National Police Check Subjects to be completed in this course In order to gain the full qualification, you must successfully complete a total of 15 units. Costs are provided on an individual basis after determination of your needs for Recognition of Prior Learning and/ or Credit Transfer. Where can I find more information? After receipt of your application, you will be contacted to arrange a pre-enrolment interview with the Department Coordinator. All students will be required to complete an accredited LLN skill level assessment as part of their pre-enrolment interview process. Documents to bring to your interview All students are required to provide proof of Australian citizenship/residency and age. Please bring one of the following original documents to your pre-enrolment interview: Australian Birth Certificate (not Birth Extract) Current New Zealand Passport Current green Medicare Card Current Australian Passport Naturalisation certificate Signed declaration by a relevant referee Formal documentation issued by the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship confirming permanent residence Students under the age of 21 years: If the document you provide (from the above list) does not include date of birth then one of the following originals must also be provided at your interview.
