James is a licensed builder with a passion for design and developing concepts for innovative sustainable houses. Sarah is a highly experienced Town Planner and has an extensive skill base in project management. RE: MiHaven Homes (Remote Build) It is my understanding that MiHAven Homes are looking at expanding their product to remote regions of Far North Queensland and I would like to inform you of my recent experience with this company. I engaged MiHaven Homes in April 2012 to undertake a 2 stage, 5 house development project here on Thursday Island, of which we have just completed Stage 1. The first stage of construction (being 2 x Hi-Set houses) commenced on 23 rd July 2012 and both were completed on 12 th October 2012, well within the time allocated on the contracts. During the house construction there was very little disruption due to remote logistics of freight, contractors, flights, accommodation or lack of local supplies as these had been carefully considered prior to the development. I am delighted with the design and quality of the 2 homes and congratulate Mr James Mort on successfully meeting my requirements on this stage of the project. The design was flexible and adaptable to include an extra bathroom and study nook without losing its spacious feel. Living through the impact of Cyclone Yasi disaster of February 2011 in Mission Beach, James and Sarah drew on more than three decades of experience in the Australian building industry and developed a domestic building design and construction system that is cyclone and flood resistant and has a building delivery and construction timeframe of 8-12 weeks to complete. MiHaven is affordable, easily built in rapid time and designed to resist natural disasters. Innovation and flexibility are key to the Company s business plan. Within the first six months of launching MiHaven, James and Sarah were awarded the Business Innovation Award for Far North Queensland.
