The Texas Success Initiative is a state mandated prgram that is designed t help determine if yu are ready fr cllege-level curse wrk in the general areas f reading, writing and mathematics (Texas Administrative Cde (TAC) Chapter 4, Subchapter 3). The prgram will help yu knw what type f curses r interventins will assist yu t be prepared fr cllege level curse wrk. All students nt meeting the exemptins defined belw (Tables 1 and 2) must take the TSI Assessment as a diagnstic tl t determine reading, writing, and mathematics basic skills. Perfrming yur best n the test will impact the amunt f time and tuitin cst yu will have t spend n preparing fr many f Alam Clleges prgrams and curses. Anyne wanting t advance in their develpmental curse sequence may retest n TSI Assessment. Fllwing the TSI Assessment, yur gal/majr will be used t determine what level (if any) f develpmental cursewrk and/r interventins will be required. If yu are required t take the TSI Assessment, several ptins are available fr yu t review and prepare fr the test. Spending a shrt time reviewing infrmatin abut the test and the type f questins yu can expect may assist yu in maximizing yur perfrmance n the exam. Please request infrmatin abut these ptins. Yu will be advised based n the results f yur TSI Assessment scres and the curses yu plan t take. Yu will nt be denied admissin t the Alam Clleges based n yur TSI Assessment scres. Algebra II = minimum scre f Level II f A student wh transfers t an institutin frm a private r independent institutin f higher educatin r an accredited ut-f-state institutin f higher educatin and wh has satisfactrily cmpleted cllege-level cursewrk as determined by the receiving institutin (see Table 2). 4. A student wh has previusly attended any institutin and has been determined t have met readiness standards by that institutin

A student wh is serving n active duty as a member f the armed frces f the United States, the Texas Natinal Guard, r as a member f a reserve cmpnent f the armed frces f the United States and has been serving fr at least three years preceding enrllment. [Students wh meet this exemptin are encuraged t take the TSI Assessment fr diagnstic purpses t aid in prgram and curse selectin during advising.] 6. A student wh n r after August 1, 1990, was hnrably discharged, retired, r released frm active duty as a member f the armed frces f the United States r the Texas Natinal Guard r service as a member f a reserve cmpnent f the armed frces f the United States. [Students wh meet this exemptin are encuraged t take the TSI Assessment fr diagnstic purpses t aid in prgram and curse selectin during advising.] 7. A student wh earns a grade f 75 r abve fr ELAR and/r Mathematics Cllege Preparatry Curse under Texas Educatin Cde is exempt fr a perid f twelve (12) mnths frm the date f high schl graduatin with respect t the cntent area f the curse. This exemptin applies nly at the institutin f higher educatin that partners with the schl district in which the student is enrlled t prvide the curse. 8. Students will nt need t take the new TSI Assessment if they have met bth f the fllwing prir t fall 2013: 1) Taken ne f the fur previusly apprved tests fr TSI purpses (ACCUPLACER, THEA, COMPASS, Asset) 2) Received a letter grade (A,B,C,D,F, IP r W) fr any curse while they attended a public Texas cllege r university Test scres will be hnred fr placement purpses fr five years frm the test administratin date. Certificate Seekers 9. A student wh is seeking a certificate prgram f ne year r less (Level-One certificates, 42 r fewer semester credit hurs r the equivalent) will nt be required t take any frmal develpmental curses, but is required t take the TSI Assessment fr diagnstic purpses. 3 Page 3 Students requiring develpmental cursewrk: Tp Yu will be required t enrll in develpmental cursewrk if yu plan t enrll in cllege-level transfer curses and d nt meet a TSI exemptin (Table 1), the TSI Minimum Standards (Table 3), r placement scres based n the TSI Assessment.
