2 HOSPITALITY, RETAIL AND EVENTS Hospitality, Retail & Events is one of the most exciting and fast paced industries to work in. Our retail courses are designed to prepare you for a career as a retail advisor, store supervisor or manager. You will learn about merchandising, e-commerce, retail law, recruitment & marketing, stock managament, security and customer care - all vital in the retail industry. From the world s largest arts festival, to spectacular Hogmanay celebrations, there s no better place to learn about visualising, planning and creating events than here in Edinburgh. Events courses cover sporting, cultural, music and business events. We also work with Queen Margaret University to provide an Associate Student Programme in Events Management with a guaranteed University place on successful completion of year 2 of the course at College. Since 2012 we have been finalists at the Scottish Event Awards and were highly commended in 2013 and The hospitality sector offers a wide range of opportunities from front of house operations to bar supervisor and hotel manager with an emphasis on customer service and team work. Our hospitality courses will give you the opportunity to visit hotels and other businesses operating within hospitality to give you training and further insight into the industry as well as the opportunity to work in our restaurants eh15 and the Apprentice. 3 HOSPITALITY, RETAIL AND EVENTS OUR STUDENTS ARE CURRENTLY WORKING WITH: EVENTS MANAGEMENT Edinburgh College s Events Management students have raised more than 20,000 for charity in 2014/15 by holding events around the city and surrounding areas as part of their coursework. The students worked in 38 teams to arrange an event each in aid of a range of charities. The winning team, called Festival Events based at Sighthill Campus, organised a sell-out mini fringe festival at the Voodoo Rooms, where a variety of acts including a magician, DJ, reggae act and flamenco folk band, entertained the audience. To promote the event, the students worked together with dancers from the University of Edinburgh Modern Dance Society to organise a flash mob outside the Usher Hall. They also worked with students from the college s audio visual courses, who documented the event by recording it for a video that helped them pass their course. AWARDS Rebecca Sinder & Merce Just Bielsa, HN Hospitality, were awarded with HIT Scholarships to the Lausanne Hotel Management School in Switzerland. Aisha Abdulai, HND Hospitality Management, won the HCIMA AWARD at the 2015 Graduation ceremony. Lauren Smith, NC Events Co-ordination, won the Retail, Events & Hospitality Recognition Award at the 2015 FE Awards. Edinburgh College cookery students, won 18 prizes in the 2015 ScotHot awards in Glasgow. HN students worked at Murrayfield Stadium as part of the 6 Nations hospitality Iona Cameron, an HN student, worked at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow 03 Edinburgh College Hospitality. 5 HOSPITALITY, RETAIL AND EVENTS Edinburgh College helped me get a taste of what higher education is like. I did experience a lot of independent learning, however my lecturers were always there for me, when needed. It was an important step in my life, as I came there with knowledge close to none and skills, that required massive improvements. However, I left the College as a professional, who knows what he wants to achieve and is confident with his decisions. I would like to thank Iris, Katrina, Laura and Caroline for being the most supportive lecturers I could have asked for. My time studying at Edinburgh College has been a wonderful experience and your teaching has helped me grow into a hardworking, insightful student. Retail, Events & Hospitality Access to HN G FT This course will build on your existing qualifications and skills and support you in your transition from school or an FE course to HND level courses in Events, Retail or Hospitality. Retail Management HNC S FT I This course is designed to prepare you for a managerial career within the retail industry. It will give you the essential knowledge and skills required including retail law and retail security. Retailing NC S FT You will learn all of the practical skills you need, from dealing with customers through to the unseen back office warehouse and administration areas of a store including all of the practical hands-on activities that are essential to support both your team and store manager in a demanding retail environment. Introduction to Retail, Events and Tourism Industries Develop an insight into the vibrant and fast-paced industries of retail, events and tourism. This course will build on your current communication and IT skills as well as your confidence, team work and personal effectiveness. S FT Hospitality Course International Hospitality and Tourism Management BA (Hons) Campus G Mode of Attendance FT You will spend years 1 and 2 at Edinburgh College studying a range of hospitality subjects including Hospitality Management, Front Office Procedures, Food and Beverage Service and Marketing Planning in Travel and Tourism before moving to QMU for years 3 and 4. Hospitality Management HND G FT I This course covers a wide range of areas relevant to the hospitality industry and is ideal if you`re looking to enter a career at an intermediate level in hospitality, tourism, food and beverage management or leisure. You will gain work experience one day each week - excellent on-the-job training to prepare you for your future career. Hospitality NC G FT This course will give you an introduction and insight into the hospitality industry.
