2 PERFORMING ARTS Edinburgh College is home to the Performing Arts Studio Scotland (PASS), one of the country s largest and most respected centres for training in the performing arts. We are delighted to have renowned actress and double BAFTA Award winner Emma Thomson as our Patron. Whether you re a future star of stage and screen, looking to break into technical theatre, or see yourself in make-up artistry or costume design, this is the place to be! Our partners include Scottish Dance Theatre, the National Theatre of Scotland and the BBC. This allows us to regularly invite industry experts to deliver workshops. We recognise the importance of providing you with the professional facilities you need for success. That s why you ll find seven dedicated rehearsal studios and a modern, purpose built theatre, right here on campus. All this makes PASS the perfect place to showcase your talents. You ll gain rewarding experience delivering exciting performances to both fellow students and the public through out the year. We will support you to walk into the industry straight from graduation, or to continue on to higher education courses such as those at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. 95% of our students who apply are accepted to university. PASS is a fantastic stepping stone to a career in the arts. Through the encouragement and support, and the most high quality of training, I realised I could pursue a career in acting. KAREN GILLAN FORMER STUDENT & DR WHO STAR Since leaving College, Karen went on to study in London at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts before appearing in popular tv shows such as The Kevin Bishop Show and medical drama Harley Street. Karen s popularity has seen a sharp rise since she appeared as Amy Pond, Dr Who s assistant in early PASS is an exciting, high octane cutting edge centre which will attract much of the wealth of talent in Scotland and beyond. EMMA THOMSON DOUBLE BAFTA AWARD WINNER AND PATRON OF THE PERFORMING ARTS STUDIO SCOTLAND AT EDINBURGH COLLEGE LET S GLOW Let s Glow festival features performances and exhibitions from college students covering everything from music, theatre and dance to photography, film, art, animation, textiles and design. It runs from May to June, with events taking place at venues across Edinburgh. AWARDS Justyna Adamek from HND Year 2 Make-up artistry has been awarded a Distinction award in the Fashion Make-up Awards 2014 in Poland. Ex-students are working all over Scotland and Europe including at the National Theatre of Scotland, Black Light and the Brunton Theatre. 01 Edinburgh College Performing Arts 02

3 PERFORMING ARTS CROSS CURRENTS // DANCE SPECTACULAR Sixty Edinburgh College performing arts students brought the Royal Mile to a standstill with a pop-up performance to promote their end-of-year show at the King s Theatre. The students from the college s Performing Arts Studio Scotland (PASS) provided locals and tourists with a dance routine from the finale of their Cross Currents show. The show is a choreographic collaboration between combining the expertise of PASS staff with the passion, energy and creativity of our student body. Students range from BTEC to degree level and Cross Currents showcases a variety of dance disciplines and genres. It marked the end of a successful year for PASS that began with the announcement of actress Emma Thompson as its patron. NC AND HNC TECHNICAL THEATRE This was the best two years of my life. In the second year you ll gain practical experience in a range of production opportunities in both traditional and nontraditional spaces. Acting and Theatre Performance NC G FT Explore drama and theatre and participate in a minimum of two performances to give you practical experience, ensuring you are well-prepared for further study and your future career. Performing Arts - Musical Theatre Diploma BTEC Level 3 Explore acting through singing and dancing. You ll develop the performance, voice and dance skills, and will get the opportunity to build on your personal skills - useful in any profession. Creative Industries with Performing Arts NC Develop a wide range of skills in acting, singing, dancing and theatre make-up. You will also cover essential business units in social media, working for yourself and creative analysis. G S FT FT Dance Dance (1 Year Completion Award) BA Honours G FT I Develop your dance skills to a professional level in a nurturing and supportive environment, where you will build an understanding and awareness of dance as a force in society. Professional Dance Performance HND G* FT I Delivered off-campus at Dance For All, develop the creative, technical and professional skills that you ll need for a career in the dance industry. Through training and specialisation you ll focus on performing, choreography and teaching (additional fees are payable for this course). Dance NC G* FT Delivered off-campus at Dance For All, reach your full dance potential and develop your skills in ballet, classical, modern and jazz. The course is designed to achieve SQA units while beginning the first year of a three-year course (additional fees are payable for this course). Dance Artists HND G FT I Through in-depth training, you ll study the role of the dance artist. You ll develop a minimum of three dance techniques as well as choreography, teaching skills and supporting professional studies. Performing Arts Dance Diploma BTEC Level 3 G Explore the world of performing arts by studying a range of performance skills. You ll gain essential workexperience throughout the course working with other course areas, as well as at a variety of fun charity functions. Fashion and Photographic Make Up Certificate VTCT Level 3 Enhance your skills in make-up artistry, and maintaining health and safety practices in a salon environment, while developing an essential understanding of client care and communications. (Additonal course fee and kit costs is payable for this course) G EV Technical Theatre Technical Theatre HNC G FT I Develop a high level of skills and practical experience in a range of production and technical theatre disciplines. This qualification can lead directly into industry or higher education. Technical Theatre NC G FT Explore your technical theatre skills and develop a wider understanding of drama and theatre. Topics include stage management, sound, lighting, set design, props and theatre appreciation. Theatre Costume Theatre Costume Interpretation HND BTEC G FT I If you have an interest in theatre, film and the performing arts, develop your skills and knowledge by studying costume design, corsetry and pattern cutting, and follow a career in theatre wardrobe. Production Arts Diploma BTEC Level 3 G FT If you re interested in a career within production arts, this course will cover units in theatre, costume, prop making, make-up artistry, and hairdressing to enhance your current skills. RACHEL JOHNSON Edinburgh College HND Theatre Costume Interpretation student, Rachel Johnson, beat off hundreds of other competitors to intern with the world s largest arts and creative centre in Canada. She said The interview process was quite intense but I m glad my lecturer encouraged me to go for it. I think my 18th century Marie Antoinette-style ladies dress caught the judges attention in particular, which is probably my most impressive piece. 09 Edinburgh College Performing Arts 10
