2 So how important is Further Education? Scottish colleges are a power-house of skills and economic development. They deliver an enormous range of courses to almost 400,000 people and they equip the country with the huge variety of traditional and modern skills that a 21 st century economy needs. Skills for Scotland: how Scotland can deliver economic success (2011) In published figures show that 77% of the SUMS delivered were in FE

4 Getting specific about the Tourism Sector Hospitality and Travel & Tourism programmes are offered at 35 of Scotland s 41 colleges 31 colleges offer Hospitality courses, with 19 offering Travel and Tourism. There were 4,300 full-time FE and HE learners across Scotland s colleges studying Hospitality or Travel & Tourism in the past 3 years

5 Preparing for the Labour Market In terms of activity Catering/Food/Leisure/Tourism ranks in the Top 10 at No. 7 with 138,034 SUMS delivered in colleges each year. That s 138,034 x 40 hours = Over 5.5 Million Hours worth of learning!
