2 HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE Whether you are looking to develop your knowledge of health and social care, or want to work in a caring profession, we have a range of courses to support your ambitions. We have established strong partnerships with industry and Scottish Universities to provide our students with the best possible opportunities for progression to Nursing and other Allied Professions. Our Health and Social Care Academy provides young people who are still at school with a real insight into the skills and qualities required to work in the sector and in year 2 offers some practical work experience. This is delivered in partnership with Queen Margaret University, Local Councils and NHS Lothian. Alongside our fulltime courses we offer courses on a part-time basis to employers in Health and Social Care these include: PDA in Health and Social Care Supervision, PDA in Health and Social Care Administration of Medication and PDA Developing Professional Practice in Health and Social Care In addition we have an extensive provision of counselling courses including Introduction to Counselling, COSCA Certificate in Counselling and HNC Counselling. We also deliver SVQ 2, 3, 4 Social Services and Healthcare, SVQ 2, 3 Social Services Children and Young People and SVQ 4 in Leadership and Management for Care Services within the workplace in a variety of specialist areas. The University Access to Nursing course gave me the foundation of knowledge I needed to pursue my dream as a Staff Nurse, I learned to empathise and show compassion and to truly understand the complex needs of those that require care. It was a poignant part of my training and one I will never forget! I made friends for life and will be a better Nurse for it! 3 HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE THE HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE ACADEMY We have formed strong partnerships with the health and social care sector, ensuring you learn skills which are relevant and up-to-date. Our Health and Social Care Academy offers an innovative approach to training in health care, delivered in partnership with Edinburgh City, East Lothian, Borders and Midlothian Councils, Queen Margaret University and NHS Lothian. The Health and Social Care Academy aims to provide young people aged 16 to 18 with the educational knowledge and work experience needed to prepare them for work in this sector. The Academy consists of a 1 to 3 year programme, delivered part time, with the possibility of progressing to a related course at university or college. This year there are 95 students participating in the Health and Social Care Academy from 48 schools across Edinburgh the Lothians. Students study for a recognised qualification at Edinburgh College and also participate in a variety of workshops related to health and social care at Queen Margaret University. Many of our students from the previous year progressed from one year to the next or on to another college course or university. The academy not only rewards students with a qualification, but helps build their knowledge and practical skills to give them a competitive advantage in securing college or university places. It also enhances their employment prospects. The Health and Social Care Academy has opened my eyes to the different areas and opportunities within this sector. I strongly believe choosing this course has been worthwhile as I have gained work placement experience and gained an insight into employment opportunities. HNC Social Care Md S FT EV Ideal if you aim to develop a career in social care, this SSSC recognised qualification gives you the theoretical and practical experience to ensure you re prepared for further study. HNC Care and Administration Practice S FT This course will give you the knowledge and skills to prepare you for undergraduate study in Nursing and other Health related degrees. NC Health and Social Care Md S FT Designed in line with the government`s integration agenda, you will cover the skills and knowledge you need to gain employment or further study in social care or health care professions. National 5 Care Mi S FT If you re wishing to change career and have qualifications in other areas, this course will prepare you for work in health and social care or progression to relevant higher level courses. NC Nursing Mi S FT If you are a school leaver and looking to pursue a career in Nursing this course is for you. Preparation for Working in Childcare and Social Care If you re unsure about whether you would like to work with children and young people, this entry level course will suit you. You ll learn about the values and skills needed to work in this field. G FT COSCA Certificate In Counselling Skills (Module 1) Mi S PT EV COSCA certificate is a theoretical and practical course. You ll develop the ability to establish a safe, trusting, helping relationship with another person by becoming a Reflective Practitioner. HNC Counselling S FT EV Take the next step towards your career in counselling. Offering a systematic, integrative approach derived from the work of Gerard Egan, you ll learn from a strong client-centre emphasis.
