The post holder may be based at any premises the University occupies and may be required to work at any University site or any other reasonable location where the University is undertaking its business. GENERAL We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic and highly qualified individual to teach on a range of courses in the School, including BSc (Hons) Forensic Computing, BSc (Hons) Cyber Security and MSc Computing (Information Security) starting 1st September The appointee will need to have excellent communication skills and demonstrable success when working in a team environment. Applicants should have technical skills in forensic and cyber security. The appointee will take the lead in delivering a range of modules in forensic computing and information security at undergraduate and postgraduate level. In addition, the appointed candidate will contribute to research, consultancy and business development. Applicants must have a high level of technical programming skills and excellence in the use of Windows and Linux-based forensic tools such as EnCase, XRY, FTK and Backtrack. Good knowledge of mobile systems and mobile apps development would also be an advantage. Principal Lecturers are required to engage in higher levels of educational management, research and/or income generating activity. The Person Specification reflects these requirements. Principal Lecturers will undertake significant responsibility in areas including course leadership, quality assurance, project management, staff development, Knowledge Exchange work, academic development, external relations, marketing, student recruitment

2 and research. Principal Lecturer is a senior grade and post holders will make a major contribution to the operations of the School. There may be a requirement for this post to take on Academic Subject Leader duties. This will be discussed with shortlisted applicants as part of the interview process. The successful candidate will be expected to play a leadership role in respect of the Faculty Research Priority Area of Applied Design for Business. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible to: Head of School (Computing & Technology) (Line Manager) 1. Primary Functions Academic Subject Leader: Computing & Technology (Operational Manager) 1.1 To provide subject leadership in cyber security/forensics 1.2 To teach forensic computing and cyber security on a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. 1.3 To assist in the development of and to teach other areas of undergraduate and postgraduate provision as required 1.4 The supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and research projects 1.5 To visit students on industrial placement 1.6 To assist in the promotion of the School of Computing and Technology, the Faculty and the University at Open Days and other public events. 1.7 To undertake, and contribute to, high quality research in order to contribute to the School s, Faculty and University research profile 1.8 To undertake all administrative duties as required to complete the above duties. 1.9 To work evenings and occasionally weekends as required to fulfil the duties. 2. Secondary Functions 2.1 To assist in the development and delivery of consultancy, knowledge exchange and other commercial activities 2.2 To contribute to the development and delivery of short courses

3 2.3 To broaden skills across the provision within the School in order to provide support when necessary. 2.4 To contribute to any other income generation activities. 2.5 To undertake any other duties and responsibilities, commensurate with the grade of the post, properly directed by the line manager. Evidence of a good research background. Strong technical computer science and software skills and the experience to apply these in a variety of applications. Able and willing to expand knowledge and expertise to contribute to a broad range of teaching and short-course provision and research. *(Ref University Policy on Staff Participation in the PGCAP) Subject to the specific circumstances listed above, it is a condition of employment that all newly appointed staff on Academic Staff Contracts with fewer than three years experience of teaching in Higher Education, and not already possessing a teaching in Higher Education qualification, should acquire the University Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCAP). Instead of undertaking the PGCAP Staff with the equivalent of a minimum of two years full time teaching experience in higher education may seek the agreement of their line manager to apply for membership of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) after they have taught for the equivalent of one year full time at the University. Staff who are employed on a fixed term contract (FTC) which is less than three years will not be required to undertake the PGCAP. However, staff on a FTC of more than one year will be entitled to undertake the PGCAP whilst in employment.
