Home access to Work computer Problem: Although Remote Access features are provided and are effective, it is not quite as good as actually working on your work computer. Your work computer is set up and configured the way you like it. It has: all the software you need that software enjoys special privileges as a Uni environment navigation is the same as when at work, your email sign off etc are all there all your access to Business School systems such as PORS, Online Outlines, Computer Account Management system CAMS etc is all there This tip shows you how to connect by VPN Virtual Private Network and then use Remote Desktop Connection to summon up your work computer from home. Solution: Setup your work PC to allow remote access 1. First setup your work PC to remote into from home with your login details. Click on Start/Settings/Control Panel. Select the System icon. 2. In the system window, Click on the tab labelled Remote. Click on the Select Remote Users button.
3. The following dialog box appears. Click Add. 4. In the following dialog box, Click on the Locations button.
5. And another the locations dialog box will appear. Select econ.usyd.edu.au and Click OK. 6. Then type in your username in the Enter the object names to select field and Click OK.
7. Your username will be added to the Remote Desktop Users list for your desktop PC. 8. Click OK to exit. You have now successfully added your username to the list of users that can remotely access your desktop PC at work.
9. You will also need to find out the name of your Work PC. While you are still logged onto your Work PC, Click on Start/Settings/Control Panel. Click on System and Click on the Tab Computer Name. Write down the FEBXXXX name of your Work PC. e.g. FEB2294-NB Part 2: Setup VPN access on your remote PC(if this already hasn t been done already). If you don't have the VPN client installed Vist the VPN client download webpage : vpn.usyd.edu.au 1. In the GROUP: field click the drop down list and select the off-campus profile 2. Type your UniKey in the USERNAME: field 3. Type your UniKey password in the PASSWORD: field 4. Click Login. Your download will begin. 5. Follow the instructions to install the client on your computer. When the download is complete and you have successfully connected to a VPN session, the client should be installed onto your computer. On each subsequent use of the VPN client you will have the option to select a different profile to connect with, based on your location.
6. When you no longer need a connection with the University network, open the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client dialogue box and click Disconnect. VPN in, then connect with Remote Desktop Once you have connected to VPN, you can now connect to your work PC from a remote location. Click on Start/Run. Type in mstsc into the Run field and a remote desktop screen will appear. Type in the Computer name of your PC into the Computer field of the login screen and click Connect.
