1 VPN (Banner Home Access) Pellissippi State Community College Home Installation Instructions Please Read Entire Instructions Before Installation!! Step 1 : Remove Old Versions of Java Warning!!: The Performance of existing software dependent on various Java version may be affected by the new Java Installation. However, VPN requires the latest version of Java. Go to Start Settings Control Panel Add or Remove Programs Please record the present version of Java installed on your PC. Current JAVA Version: Remove any instances of JAVA or J2SE Note: You may have more than one instance of JAVA as in this example. Or, it is possible that you do not have any installations. 1

2 Step 2: Download Latest JAVA Remove all previous versions of JAVA before continuing from Add/Remove Programs under the Control Panel Specific JAVA download instructions are available from this site. Launch Internet Explorer Please Refer to the JAVA s Webpage Instructions for Downloading. **Note: This download may take a few minutes. JAVA for Windows 64 bit? : All Others: Don t Know which version of Windows you have: 32 bit or 64 bit? See the following Link: 2

3 Step 3: Install VPN Step 1: Step 2: Launch Internet Explorer Windows 64 bit: All Others: Don t Know which version of Windows you have: 32 bit or 64 bit? See the following Link: Login Type: your Pellissippi Username with domain (@pstcc.edu) and Password. Click Run 3

4 Step 3: Cisco Systems VPN Client Installation Wizard Follows Click Yes Note: Your computer will be Re-started for changes to take affect. Click Finish 4

5 Step 4: Launch VPN Client Go to Start Programs Cisco Systems VPN Client VPN Client Login to Connection Click Connect Type: your Pellissippi Username without domain and Password. 5

6 Click Continue **You are Now Connected and can work on Banner as you would on Campus! Logging Out of Connection 1 Click on the Disconnect Icon to the bottom right of your Desktop Click Disconnect 2 3 Exit VPN Client 6

7 VPN Setup\Options Create Desktop Shortcut VPN Considerations 1. VPN will not work with Dial-up Access. 2. All your home computer s Internet traffic will be forced through the VPN connection while in use. This potentially could slow your connection speed substantially and would be subject to the College s Usage policies. Therefore, it is recommended to disconnect from VPN while using the Internet from home for browsing purposes. 3. You may have a Firewall installed on your home PC that will prompt you for permission to grant VPN access. 4. VPN users will be automatically disconnected from Pellissippi State s network after 30 minutes of inactivity and are limited to 8 hour sessions before having to reconnect. (Your Banner activities may require Oracle J Initiator, you will be prompted to install it upon your first connection to Banner from home if required. Follow the following steps once installation is prompted.)
