The Cisco VPN Client software enables users to securely access the Karmanos network protected by the Cisco Firewall. 1

2 REQUIREMENTS 1. High Speed internet (DSL, or cable) 2. At Home Windows XP SP1, SP2, and SP3, Windows Vista SP1, or Macintosh OSX 10.3 or higher. 3. At Work - Windows XP (is required no other operating systems are supported) 4. Active and up to date anti-virus software on your home computer INSTALLATION PROCEDURE To install the Cisco VPN Client software on your computer, run setup.exe from proper directory on the VPN CD you were provided: <CD-ROM drive letter>:\ciscovpn client\vpnclient\setup.exe Once the software setup is started, follow the install screens below: Left click Next to continue. 2

3 Left click Yes. Left click Next. 3

4 Left click Next. Left click Finish to reboot computer** **Note: If you receive any Microsoft error messages stating something like Digital Signature Not Found, ignore the message and click the button to accept the error and continue. This error may occur several times depending upon the configuration of your machine. **Note: You must reboot your computer before proceeding to the next steps. 4

5 Once the reboot is complete click Start > Click Programs > Click Cisco Systems VPN Client > Click VPN Client The following screen will be displayed with connection entry NewKCI listed: 5

6 You may create a desktop shortcut to make connecting easier. To do so: Right click on the new site in the VPN Client window Click Create Shortcut The shortcut will be labeled with the name you gave the connection entry and represented by a yellow lock. For example the shortcut in these instructions would appear like this on the Windows desktop If you choose not to make a shortcut on the Windows desktop proceed to the section Connecting to the Karmanos VPN to make your connection. Note for Windows 2000 SP3 or SP4 home users: You will also need to install the following program from the cd <cdrom:>\msrd2000.exe. This will install remote connection ability for Windows 2000 to Windows XP connections. **Note: The Cisco VPN client username and password are specific to VPN, and not the same as the regular Windows username and password used to logon to the KCI network or Microsoft Outlook . During the VPN connection process you will be prompted for your Karmanos network login (Outlook username and password). **Note: Unlike our previous VPN client software the Cisco Systems VPN Client will not automatically launch when Microsoft Windows starts. 6

7 Connecting to the Karmanos VPN If you did not create an icon in previous step follow these steps to connect: Click Start > Click Programs > Click Cisco Systems VPN Client > Click VPN Client > Click Connect. You can click the X box in the upper right hand corner to minimize the application after your connection is made. After you have successfully connected to the VPN you can use remote control to connect to your office desktop computer using remote control. Refer to KCI-VPN-Remote-Desktop.doc located on the VPN CD. **Note: From time to time, you may be required to re-authenticate to the firewall to access KCI resources. This is due to a timeout between your Cisco VPN client and the KCI firewall. This is normal behavior. **Note: If you are using a home gateway that does Network Address Translation (NAT), you may need to disconnect your PC from that device and plug it directly into your DSL or Cable Modem prior to installation (This may require a reboot of the Modem and your PC), in order for the initial authentication to be successful. **Note: Once the initial authentication is complete you can reconnect to your NAT device (once again a reboot may be required). Connection problems: If you cannot start a VPN connection on a machine where it previously worked, try rebooting the computer. A left-over connection could keep you from reconnecting to the VPN.
