PIPE Utility Overview PIPE Utility allws yu t view infrmatin abut THE PIPE and PIPE II. It supprts the fllwing PIPE features: Feature THE PIPE PIPE II Display PIPE Serial Number Display PIPE Manufacturing Date (UTC) Display PIPE Battery Status Display PIPE Time (Lcal) View PIPE II Histry Data Save PIPE II Histry Data t a file Enable/Disable Beeper Enable/Disable Tur Reminder Beep Hw t tell which PIPE mdel yu have The PIPE serial number, a 6-character cde engraved n the PIPE s read tip, will cnfirm the PIPE mdel: If the serial number begins with a number (such as 4, 5, 6 r 7) it s a PIPE. Fr example: 56A357 If the serial number begins with the letter A, it s a PIPE II. Fr example: A15378 In sme cases, usually n lder PIPEs, the serial number is nt visible due t wear and tear. In this case, fllw the steps in Hw t view the PIPE s status belw t determine the serial number. Nte: if the PIPE is nn-functinal, PIPE Utility may nt be able t display any status infrmatin. In this case the message Cmmunicatin with the PIPE failed will be displayed in the PIPE Infrmatin sectin. If this ccurs cntact Technical Supprt t request a Return Merchandise Authrizatin (RMA) fr the PIPE. PIPE Utility User s Manual 1
Installing PIPE Utility The wrkstatin must meet the fllwing minimum requirements: Supprted Operating Systems: Windws XP SP3 r later (32-bit nly) Windws Vista SP1 r later (32- r 64-bit) Windws Server 2003 SP2 r later (32-bit nly) Windws 7 (32- r 64-bit) Windws Server 2008 SP2 r later (32- r 64-bit) Windws Server 2008 R2 Required GUARD1 PLUS Prgram: GUARD1 PLUS versin 2.60 r later Attendant SE versin 4.20 r later 1024 x 768 r higher screen reslutin A cnnected Direct Dwnlader r USB Dwnlader T install PIPE Utility: 1. Place the PIPE Utility CD in the drive - the installer shuld begin autmatically. If the installer des nt begin autmatically, pen My Cmputer and brwse t the CD drive. Duble-click the setup.exe file t start the installer. 2. The installer checks t see whether Micrsft.NET Framewrk 3.5 SP1 is installed n yur system. If it is nt installed, a Prerequisite windw will appear. Click Install t install.net Framewrk 3.5, then fllw the prmpts. 3. Click Next at the Welcme screen. 4. Click Yes at the License Agreement. 5. T start cpying the files, click Next. 6. After the installatin is cmplete yu must restart the cmputer befre yu can use PIPE Utility. 7. Using PIPE Utility Opening PIPE Utility 1. Cnfirm that a Direct Dwnlader r USB Dwnlader is cnnected t the cmputer running PIPE Utility. 2. If any f these prgrams are running n this wrkstatin, clse them: Attendant Attendant SE 3. Duble-click the PIPE Utility shrtcut n the Desktp. If the shrtcut is nt present, click Start > Prgrams (r All Prgrams) > TimeKeeping Systems > PIPE Utility. 4. PIPE Utility will autmatically detect and cnnect t the Dwnlader. A successful cnnectin is indicated by: The Active Prt field displays the Dwnlader type The Clse Prt buttn is enabled If n PIPE is inserted in the Dwnlader, the PIPE Infrmatin sectin s message field displays Please insert a PIPE int the Dwnlader. If a PIPE is present in the Dwnlader, the PIPE s infrmatin will be displayed. If the Attendant is running, the Active Prt field will display Attendant is running. Clse the Attendant then click Detect Dwnlader t search again. If the prt is still nt pened, use the Select COM Prt drp-dwn t select the COM Prt the Dwnlader is using then click Open Prt. If successful, the Active Prt field displays the Dwnlader type, the Clse Prt buttn is enabled, and the PIPE Infrmatin sectin s message field displays Please insert a PIPE int the Dwnlader (if n PIPE is present) OR the PIPE Infrmatin is displayed (if a PIPE is present). Viewing the PIPE s status 1. Place a PIPE r PIPE II in the Dwnlader. 2. Viewing PIPE II Histry Data PIPE II features an nbard Event Lg that can be viewed with PIPE Utility. T view PIPE II Histry Data: 1. On the Menu Bar, click Get Histry Data. 2. The Histry Data is displayed in the right-hand windw panes: The upper pane displays the 24 mst critical events that have ccurred since the PIPE was last initialized. The lwer pane displays the mst recent 4096 events in chrnlgical rder with the mst recent at the tp. PIPE Utility User s Manual 5
Saving the PIPE II s Histry Data t a text file Yu can save the PIPE II s Histry Data t a text file fr yur recrds r fr use by Technical Supprt. T save the Critical Events shwn in the upper Histry pane t a text file: 1. On the Menu Bar, click Get Histry Data. 2. Under the File Infrmatin sectin, click Save beside the label Save critical data t file. 3. The Save As dialg appears. 4. Select the flder where yu want t save the file. 5. Change the default file name if desired. 6. Click Save. 7. The file is saved in the flder yu selected in Step 3. T save all Histry Events shwn in the lwer Histry pane (this includes the tp 24 Critical Events) t a text file: 1. On the Menu Bar, click Get Histry Data. 2. Under the File Infrmatin sectin, click Save beside the label Save all data t file. 3. The Save As dialg appears. 4. Select the flder where yu want t save the file. 5. Setting PIPE II Reminders Yu can set a Reminder that will cause the PIPE II t duble-beep t remind the user t make a tur. Reminders are based n the PIPE clck time NOT the elapsed time since the last buttn scan and start at 12:00AM (00:00). Fr example: 15 Minute Reminder: the reminder beep will ccur every 15 minutes starting at 12:00AM. 1 Hur Reminder: the reminder beep will ccur every hur starting at 12:00AM. 4 Hur Reminder: the reminder beep will ccur every fur hurs starting at 12:00AM. When triggered, the Reminder beep will ccur every minute until a buttn is scanned r the Reminder is turned ff using PIPE Utility. NOTE: If the PIPE II is set t Silent Mde (see next page), the Reminders sectin will be disabled. Setting the PIPE II t Silent Mde als disables the Reminder beep. The PIPE s Reminder setting will be restred when yu return it t Beep Mde. T set the Reminder: In the Reminder sectin, select the desired interval (in this example, 30 Min.) then click Save. NOTE: if any Reminder ptins are disabled, it means the PIPE s firmware versin des nt supprt them. This will als be nted in the PIPE Infrmatin sectin s message field. T disable the Reminder: In the Reminder sectin, select Nne then click Save. PIPE Utility User s Manual 7
PIPE II Beeper Settings The PIPE II s Beeper can be turned ff. This is useful fr late-night turs r ther situatins where the beeper s nise may be disruptive r undesirable. T view the current PIPE II Beeper Settings: Insert the PIPE II. In the Beeper Settings sectin, the current beeper setting is indicated by the disabled buttn. Beep ON: Beep OFF: T turn the PIPE II Beeper ff: In the Beeper Settings sectin, click Silent Mde. NOTE: If the PIPE II has a Reminder set, setting the PIPE II t Silent Mde will disable the Reminder beep. The PIPE s Reminder setting will be restred when yu return it t Beep Mde. T turn the PIPE II Beeper n: In the Beeper Settings Sectin, click Beep Mde. PIPE Utility User s Manual 8
