Lcate n a dry level surface. Keep the phne away frm the edges f the surface t avid the ptential f a fall. Lcate cables t avid ptential fr damage. IP8820 Nrtel IP Phne 1. IP8820 IP Phne Overview Yur new LG-Nrtel IP8820 Phne is an Internet Prtcl (IP) phne emplying Sessin Initiatin Prtcl (SIP), the well-knwn pen standard fr establishing, managing and terminating a cmmunicatin sessin. IP8820 Phne interperates with call servers, prxies and gateways t exchange SIP signaling messages fr call cntrl. Real-time Transprt Prtcl (RTP) packets deliver vice between the end-pints ver a managed IP netwrk. Features available t IP8820 Phne thrugh SIP call servers are similar t thse f a cnventinal business telephne. In additin t the features described in this guide, yur call server may prvide additinal features, ften using dialed feature cdes. Refer t yur system administratr fr further infrmatin. The IP8820 Phne has fixed feature buttns, sft feature keys, flexible buttns that are cnfigurable, and dial pad buttns as shwn in the figure belw. The twelve (12) flexible buttns access lines and features based n the IP Phne cnfiguratin. Flexible buttns assigned fr line access, called line buttns, represent a telephne line r a SIP user. A line may be private, calls t a private line signal at all appearances f the line but an active r held call is nly visible and accessible by the riginal end-pints. A shared line appears at multiple phnes and all calls are visible and accessible by all end-pints with the line. Each line buttn emplys LEDs t indicate status as shwn belw. IP8820 Nrtel IP Phne 2. Installing yur IP8820 Phne The figure belw shws the cable cnnectins fr yur IP Phne. The LAN and desktp PC cnnectins emply standard categry 5 LAN cables terminated with RJ-45 cnnectrs. The IP Phne supprts PE (Pwer ver Ethernet) in accrdance with the IEEE-802.1af industry standard. When cnnected t a PE cmplaint LAN prt, the IP Phne derives pwer frm the prt. If the LAN prt des nt supprt PE, use the AC/DC adaptr, available separately, fr cnnectin t pwer. The handset cnnects t the base with the supplied standard handset ciled crd. Use the chart belw t make cnnectins t the IP Phne. 1 LAN Cnnect the IP Phne LAN prt t the LAN wall jack with the prvided LAN cable. 2 PC Cnnect the IP Phne PC prt t yur desktp PC with RJ-45 terminated UTP-5 cable. 3 Pwer If the LAN prt supprts PE (IEEE 802.3af cmpliant), the AC/DC adapter is nt required. If nt supprted, cnnect the IP Phne pwer prt t the DC ut f Pwer Adapter. Cnnect the Pwer Adapter AC plug t an AC wall jack. 4 Headset Cnnect Headset RJ-11 jack t the IP Phne headset jack. 5 Handset Cnnect the Handset ciled crd t the IP Phne base and handset. 3 Apr. 09

IP8820 Nrtel IP Phne 3. Using Features f IP8820 Phne 3.1. Receiving a Call When yu receive a call, yur phne rings, the LCD displays the incming call infrmatin and the assciated line buttn flashes. T answer a ringing call: Lift the handset. Yu may press the speakerphne buttn, line buttn r the Answer sftkey t activate the speakerphne. T use a headset, press the headset buttn. T end the call: Hang up the handset. If using the speakerphne, press the speakerphne buttn. If using the headset, press the headset buttn. T refuse a ringing call: Press the Refuse sftkey, the IP Phne stps ringing and the call server rutes the call. 3.2. Placing a Call Yu place calls with the handset n-hk r ff-hk. Similar t yur mbile phne, the IP8820 Phne uses a technique called stre and frward dialing. After yu dial a digit, the IP Phne waits abut 6 secnds fr additinal digits. If yu d nt dial additinal digits, the IP Phne sends the digits yu dialed t the call server fr prcessing. T send the digits immediately, press the # buttn t indicate dialing is cmplete, and then the IP Phne sends the number t the call server. T place a call: Lift the handset. Yu may press the speakerphne buttn r line buttn t activate the speakerphne. T use a headset, press the headset buttn. Dial the destinatin number. After a shrt delay, the IP Phne sends the number, r dial # t send the dialed digits immediately. When the called party answers, begin speaking, the LCD displays the elapsed call time. T end the call, Hang up the handset. If using the speakerphne, press the speakerphne buttn. If using the headset, press the headset buttn. 3.3. Putting a Call n Hld Yu can place a call in a waiting state where the held party cannt hear yu and yu cannt hear the held party. The held party receives MOH (Music-On-Hld), if cnfigured in the call server. While a call is n hld, yu can answer r place ther calls and can tggle between held calls n the same line. With Call Hld Ringback enabled, the IP Phne rings as a reminder f calls n hld when yu return the IP Phne t idle. Refer t yur system administratr r Installer Guide fr further infrmatin. T place a call n hld: 4 Apr. 09

IP8820 Nrtel IP Phne Press the Hld buttn r the Hld sftkey. The call status changes t hld and yu receive dial tne. Yu may then select anther line t answer r place a call. Nte, if yu select an idle line and take n actin fr abut 15 secnds, the line is discnnected. T retrieve a held call: Press the slw flashing line buttn Select the desired call frm the displayed call list using Previus-Next sftkeys Select the OK sftkey t resume a cnnectin with the call. T tggle between tw calls n the same line: Press the Hld buttn r the Resume sftkey, the active call status changes t hld and the held call cnnects. 3.4. Annuncing a Call Transfer Using Annuncing a Call Transfer, yu send an active call t anther extensin after annuncing the call transfer t the receiving party. T transfer an active call: Press the Transfer buttn r the Transfer sftkey. The active call status changes t hld and yu receive dial tne. Dial the number yu wish t receive the transfer. Await answer and annunce the transfer. T cmplete the transfer, hang up the handset. T cancel a transfer, fr example the secnd party des nt answer r is busy: Press the EndCall sftkey. 3.5. Using Blind Call Transfer Yu can transfer an active call t anther extensin withut talking t the party receiving the call. The call transfers t the new party withut verifying that the new party is there r willing t receive the call. T transfer an active call withut annuncing the transfer: Press the BlindXfr sftkey. The active call status changes t hld and yu receive dial tne. Dial the number yu wish t receive the transfer. T cmplete the transfer, hang up the handset. T cancel a transfer, fr example yu mis-dial the receiving number: Press the EndCall sftkey. 3.6. DSS/BLF (Presence) Yur IP8820 Phne may be assigned with DSS/BLF (Direct Statin Selectin/Busy Lamp Field) buttns that address the special needs assciated with an Attendant r Secretarial answering psitin. The specific needs fr these users are: DSS - ne-tuch calling and transfers t the extensins 5 Apr. 09

IP8820 Nrtel IP Phne BLF (Presence) - visual status indicatin f the extensin, when the assciated extensin is busy the LED illuminates red. T call an idle cvered extensin: Lift the handset. Yu may press the speakerphne buttn r the headset buttn. Press the DSS buttn. Yu may press the DSS buttn prir t lifting the handset, which activates the speakerphne and places the call. T transfer an active call: Press the DSS buttn. The IP Phne places the active call n hld and calls the extensin. Await answer and annunce the transfer. T cmplete the transfer, hang up the handset. T cancel a transfer, fr example the secnd party des nt answer r is busy: Press the EndCall sftkey. 3.7. Call Frward Call frward directs incming calls t ring at anther lcatin that yu designate. Yu can select ne f fur (4) cnditins that will frward yur calls: - Call Frward Busy redirects incming calls if the line is busy. - Call Frward N Answer redirects incming calls that are nt answered in the cnfigured n answer time. - Call Frward Busy r N Answer redirects incming calls if the line is busy r nt answered after the n answer time expires. - Call Frward All Calls immediately redirects all incming calls. T set up Call Frward: Press the CallFwd sftkey. Use the Previus-Next sftkeys t select the desired Call Frward cnditin. Press the OK sftkey. Input the destinatin where yu want yur calls sent. Press the OK sftkey. The display shws (x) Fwd t ext indicating the frward cnditin and destinatin fr the calls. (B) = Busy, (N) = N-answer, (BN) = Busy r N-answer, (U) = Uncnditinal T disable Call Frward: Press the CallFwd sftkey. The message (x) Fwd t xxxx disappears frm the LCD. 3.8. 3-Party Cnference The IP Phne has a 3-Party Cnference feature that lets yu cnverse with tw ther parties simultaneusly. T set-up a cnference: Place first call as nrmal. 6 Apr. 09

When the party answers, press the Jin sftkey t establish the cnference. T end yur cnference call: Hang up the handset. T cancel a cnference, fr example the secnd party des nt answer r is busy: Press the EndCall sftkey. 3.9. Call Waiting With Call Waiting cnfigured, while yu are in a call the IP Phne alerts yu f an incming call. The line buttn flashes and yu receive a beep tne ver the active cnversatin t indicate the new call. In additin, during the ring signal, the LCD displays the incming caller id s yu knw wh is calling befre yu interrupt the current call. T answer an incming call while n a call: Press the Answer sftkey. The active call changes t the hld state and the new call cnnects. 3.10. Redial Yur IP Phne saves the last number yu dialed and allws yu t redial the number with the tuch f a buttn. The number is stred in memry but is lst if pwer t the IP Phne is interrupted. T redial a call: Press the Redial sftkey. The IP Phne activates the speakerphne and places the call. Lift the handset fr privacy r press the headset buttn t use the headset. 3.11. Last Call Return When yu answer a call, the IP Phne stres the caller s cntact infrmatin s yu can return a call later at the tuch f a buttn. The number is stred in memry but is lst if pwer t the IP Phne is interrupted. T call the last incming caller: Press the LastCall sftkey. The IP Phne activates the speakerphne and places the call. Lift the handset fr privacy r press the headset buttn t use the headset. 3.12. Speed Dial Buttns Flexible buttns nt assigned as a line are available fr cnfiguratin as feature buttns including Speed dial. Pressing a Speed dial buttn selects yur line and sends the stred number t the call server fr prcessing. Refer t yur system administratr fr further infrmatin. T place a call using Speed dial: Press the desired Speed dial flexible buttn. The IP Phne activates the speakerphne and places the call n yur line. Yu may select a different line buttn n yur IP Phne prir t selecting the Speed dial buttn. 7 Apr. 09
