1 TECH NOTE: BROCADE DCFM CALL HOME CAPABILITY The Call Hme event ntificatin capability allws a user t cnfigure a Brcade Data Center Fabric Manager (DCFM ) Enterprise Server t autmatically send an r dial int a supprt center t reprt system prblems. Custmers wh have a Brcade Direct Supprt maintenance cntract can enable event frwarding t the Brcade Technical Engagement Center (TEC) using the Call Hme feature. NOTE: In this paper, the term switch is used t refer t a Brcade switch, directr, r backbne platfrm. Minimum Sftware Versin Brcade DCFM is the minimum sftware versins required t frward Fabric OS (FOS) and M-Enterprise OS (M-EOS) prduct ntificatins t the Brcade TEC using Call Hme. Hardware and Firmware Supprt Fr a list f the supprted B-Series (running Fabric OS) and M-Series (running M-EOS) prducts and supprted firmware levels, see the current Brcade DCFM Release Ntes. B-Series Switch Cnfiguratins Brcade supprts FOS events nly frm switches that are cnfigured fr the default switch status plicy. T view the current switch status plicy, issue the (CLI) switchstatusplicyshw cmmand. NOTE: T view the default values f the switchstatusplicyshw cmmand, see the Brcade Fabric OS Administratr s Guide r Brcade Fabric OS Cmmand Reference. 2 Cnfiguratin and Implementatin Custmers are respnsible fr cnfiguring, implementing, and testing their DCFM Call Hme slutin. Fllw these prcedures t successfully cnfigure and implement Call Hme. Fr future discvery f devices running FOS, cnfigure SNMP Trap Registratin and Frwarding: Brcade DCFM Mnitr/SNMP Traps/Management Server Check Aut register server as SNMP trap Recipient Cnfigure the SNMP Listening Prt, using the standard default f 162. Fr previusly discvered devices running FOS, cnfigure an SNMPv1 trap recipient: FOS Element Manager Switch Admin/Shw Advanced Mde/SNMP Trap Recipient s IP address: DCFM Server IP address Trap Recipient s Severity Level: 4 Trap Recipient Prt: use default f 162 In the FOS CLI, validate that each device is cnfigured fr the default switch status plicy: Cnfigure each device running M-EOS fr Call Hme Ntificatins: M-EOS Element Manager Maintenance, check Enable Call Hme Ntificatin. And the fllwing: Cnfigure the Call Hme Center that will be used t frward event ntificatins. Add switches frm the Prduct List t the Call Hme Center. Create a Call Hme Event Filter specific t devices running FOS and devices running M-EOS. In the Call Hme Center, add the Call Hme Event Filter t each device running FOS and t each device running M-EOS. T enable event frwarding t the Brcade TEC, use this address: callhme @brcade.cm The custmer cntact infrmatin that accmpanies the is defined in the Custmer Details sectin f the Call Hme Center. The reply address in the Call Hme Center prfile must be the address f a registered Brcade Cnnect member. This allws the received event ntificatin t prpagate thrugh the Brcade autmated system, generate an acknwledgement f the event via an message t the reply address, and generate a Service Request. 3 Testing Custmers are respnsible fr testing that their Call Hme is prperly cnfigured and is being frwarded t Brcade. Test Example T send a test , select the Send Test buttn in the Call Hme Center prfile. (The test cntains a limited amunt f infrmatin cmpared t the that wuld be sent fr a real failure.) When the Brcade TEC receives a test a Service Request is pened, hwever it is then clsed withut cntacting the custmer, since they will have received an acknwledging the event. T enable mdem event frwarding t the Brcade TEC, use this phne number: The custmer cntact infrmatin that accmpanies the event ntificatin is cnfigured in different lcatins based n the type f device. The fllwing indicates where the custmer cntact infrmatin resides: FOS Element Manager Switch Admin/Shw Advanced Mde/SNMP In the Cntact Name field, include the custmer cntact name and phne number. M-EOS Element Manager Cnfigure/Operating Parameters/Identificatin In the Name field, include the custmer cntact name and phne number. An acknwledgement f receipt f a mdem Call Hme is nt autmated. When the event is received by the Brcade TEC, a Service Request is generated and a Brcade Supprt Engineer cntacts the custmer. 5 Mdem Testing Custmers are respnsible fr cntacting the Brcade TEC t schedule a test t validate that their slutin is functinal. T successfully test Call Hme: Cntact the Brcade TEC by calling r sending an message t supprt@brcade.cm. Prvide the Brcade TEC the custmer name, cntact infrmatin, and s n. T send a test event, select Send Test in the Call Hme Center prfile. There is n autmated acknwledgment t the custmer that test event r actual event was received by the Brcade TEC: In the case f a test event, a Service Request cannt be created since the custmer is unknwn and there is n asset serial number. In the case f an actual event, a Service Request is generated and a Brcade Supprt Engineer will cntact the custmer.
