Dear Parent or Guardian: SCOPE Education Services, in cooperation with the Smithtown Central School District, continues the exciting Winter Explorations Program for elementary school students. We are delighted to be able to offer this program again to your children in the hope of providing them with enriching ways to expand their learning while having fun. The program will be held on five Saturday mornings. The dates are: January 7, 14, 21, 28 & February 4. The courses will run from 8:45 a.m. 10:15 a.m. and 10:25 a.m. - 11:55 a.m. Please complete the attached registration form or register online by Friday, December 16 th. Again, we are pleased to be able to offer this program and we hope that it will enhance your child s learning experience. SCOPE Winter Explorations Program at Smithtown Registration Information 1. Select any courses in which you would like to enroll your child. Course enrollments have limits and, therefore, will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. We will do our best to accommodate all selections. 2. Total your course fees and enclose a check or money order payable to SCOPE. Credit cards are also accepted. Each course is $117.50. 3. Please fill out all information on the registration form. Return the completed registration form and full payment by Friday, December 16, 2016 to: SCOPE Winter Explorations Program at Smithtown 100 Lawrence Avenue Smithtown, NY 11787 Or register online at www.scopeonline.us. Go to Child/Student Services. Under subheading School Year Enrichment Programs, click on Smithtown Winter Explorations Program. * We need your help registering children by the deadline to adequately budget and prepare for the winter program. 4. There will be a $25.00 fee for any returned checks or declined credit cards. 5. Confirmations and Emergency/Health forms will be emailed before the start of the program. Please contact SCOPE if you do not receive an emailed confirmation. It is the parent s responsibility to see that their child is present on the first day of class. No credit/refund will be given. 6. Course fees will not be refundable after Friday, December 23, 2016 Refunds issued prior to December 23 rd will incur a $10.00 processing fee. 7. The Winter Explorations Program will be held at Accompsett Middle School. 8. Parents are responsible for their child s transportation to and from the program. 9. WINTER EXPLORATIONS COURSES Session 1: 8:45 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. Session 2: 10:25 a.m. - 11:55 a.m. BASKETBALL BASICS Do you dream of becoming the next NBA or WNBA star? Do you want to learn how to shoot, dribble, and pass a basketball? Or, maybe you just want to improve your skills for your basketball team? If so, then join Basketball Basics! This exciting program will teach you the basic skills and rules of basketball that you need to know to become a better basketball player. Let s have some fun! *Now available to 2 nd graders* Course #1 - Session 1 - Grades 2-5 Course #2 - Session 2 - Grades 2-5 CODING FOR KIDS! Do you enjoy playing video games and using apps? Would you like to know how they are made? Join our class and learn the basics of computer programming. You will learn how to code so you can begin designing your own games and apps! Course #3 - Session 1 - Grades K-2 Course #4 - Session 2 - Grades 3-5 CRAZY SCIENTISTS Science is experimental, exploratory and exciting! It s about the Aha! moments in life, like when you figure out how something works or when you re amazed by the result of an awesome experiment. You will have the opportunity to learn about science through our interactive and hands-on science activities that will be sure to spark your imagination! So c mon and get messy! Let the discovery and exploration begin! All new activities this winter. Returning students are welcome to participate! Course #5 - Session 1 - Grades 3-5 Course #6 - Session 2 - Grades K-2 KIDS IN THE KITCHEN Do you enjoy making tasty foods and healthy snacks? In this class the students are the chefs. The chefs will prepare and taste healthy and fun snacks, and learn how to work safely and be responsible in the kitchen. The chefs will also create and design their very own cookbook from the recipes we used in this course. The kitchen classroom is the tastiest place to learn and have fun! Bon appetit! All new activities this winter. Returning students are welcome to participate! Course #7 - Session 1 - Grades K-2 Course #8 - Session 2 - Grades 3-5

LEGO BLOCK PARTY Do you like building with LEGOS? Then join us as you become an architect. Learn about skyscrapers, vehicles, buildings and sculptures as you create a world out of LEGOS. Come and have fun designing and building LEGO creations and your very own LEGO masterpieces! Course #9 - Session 1 - Grades K-2 Course #10 - Session 2 - Grades 3-5 SPOTLIGHT ON THEATER Do you crave the spotlight? Do you want to improve your acting skills? Well, now is your chance to be in the limelight! Students will learn various acting skills and stand in the spotlight for a winter filled with the magic of theater. Students will create and act out commercials, bring books to life and perform for peers by creating their own props and scenery. Come join us as we perform and light up the stage! New skits and acting activities this winter. Course #11 - Session 1 - Grades 3-5 Course #12 - Session 2 - Grades K-2 THE SUPERHERO PROJECT Join your favorite Superheroes this winter as we have fun and get creative. This class consists of arts and crafts, science and more that will allow you to put your own creative design to all things Superhero by painting, coloring, building, etc If you love Superheroes and enjoy learning new things, then this is the class for you! You will even have the opportunity to create your own superhero and superpowers. We might get messy, so don t forget to bring your smock! Course #13 - Session 1 - Grades 3-5 Course #14 - Session 2 - Grades K-2 WINTER WONDERLAND ART Experience making creative and beautiful projects! In this class, your imagination is welcomed to run wild! Dive into glue, paint and so much more to create imaginative arts and crafts. Come and join in on all of the fun and let your imagination run free as you enter a winter wonderland! All new activities this winter. Returning students are welcome to participate!
