1 Youth/Teen Summer the BBAC Art Programs for All Ages! PREscHOOL / KIndERGARTeN GRAdEs 1 5 *Children should be registered for the school grade they will enter in the fall Pre & K Arts Discovery Camp: Half-day *Children must be 4 years or older by the first day of camp. In this one-week half-day camp, children will enter a magical world where they will create, design, explore and use their imagination. Age appropriate themed lessons are designed specifically for the preschool and kindergarten camper. Daily activities will include visual arts, dance & movement, drama and storytelling. Please send a snack and beverage daily. Session 1: June Session 2: July Monday Friday, 9:00 am 12:00 pm $146 Members, $186 Guests Kindergarten Art Camp: Full-day *Children must be 5 years or older by the first day of camp and entering kindergarten in the fall. These week-long camps explore fun and engaging themes designed to foster creative expression and art-making skills. Camp instructors are experienced professionals who understand the developmental stages of the young artist and strive to nurture success and self-confidence in a safe and caring environment. A faculty of professional artists and art educators provide hands-on activities that expose students to a variety of artistic styles and art processes. Campers rotate by age group to different studio classes for drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture and mixed media. Daily enrichment activities may include entertainment, movement/dance, presentations and games that explore different cultures and forms of art. Parents are asked to provide a daily lunch, snack and beverage for their children. A reception and art show is held on the last Friday of camp. Family and friends are invited to attend. 2 Summer Youth/Teen Camps 2014 GRAdEs 6 12 Middle School Art Camp: Grades 6 8 Students entering grades 6-8 will be immersed in a variety of studio art experiences in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media and metalsmithing. The camp faculty of professional artists and art educators develop fun & innovative lessons that are appropriate for all students. Parents are asked to provide lunch, snack anda beverage for their children. A reception and art show is held on the last Friday of camp. Family & friends are invited to attend. Session 1: July 7 18 Session 2: July 28 August 8 Monday Friday, $495 Members, $535 Guests, $25 Materials Fee Clay Camp: Grades 6 12 Students will spend the week learning the basics of wheel-throwing on the pottery wheel and a variety of handbuilding techniques. Lessons include both functional objects created on the wheel and handbuilt sculptural clay forms. Final projects will be completed using alternative outdoor firing processes including raku and smoke-firing. You will learn how to render your fashion ideas visually using technical illustration and stylized fashion sketching techniques. You will complete your collection by constructing accessories using a variety of materials and hand painted textiles. Some hand stitching and machine sewing will be introduced but previous sewing experience is not required. $248 Members, $288 Guests, $30 Materials Fee Animation Design Camp Spend the week with professional animators exploring different methods of traditional animation and the creative process behind it. The work produced may include wearable art, jewelry and sculpture. Techniques explored will be lost wax casting, riveting, fabrication/assemblage and more! Studio classes are designed for exploration of different art processes and nontraditional techniques in painting, mixed media and sculpture. Instruction will include drawing exercises and quick warm ups for developing perceptual, expressive and technical skills. A variety of media will be used, including charcoal and graphite. Students should bring a sketchbook, size 11'' x 14'' or larger. These week-long workshops will concentrate on observational drawing and developing fully rendered drawings in charcoal and graphite. Discussions include how to present and photograph art and other related topics that reinforce what schools are looking for in an admissions portfolio. Bring your current work on the first day for the instructor to review and develop projects to enhance your personal portfolio. Intermediate/Advanced high school students who are not working on a portfolio can enroll in this workshop and develop their drawing skills. 4 Summer Youth/Teen Camps 2014 PlAnET lori ART camp Ages 5 15 The Planet Lori Art Camp is designed for children (ages 5 to 15) who had or have a parent or a close relative with cancer. Art is often used to help children communicate, overcome stress and heal from tragedy. The camp will be held August 25 29, 2014, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the BBAC. The Lori Haber Buckfire Foundation was created in memory of Lori Haber Buckfire, who passed away from ovarian cancer at the age of 41. The foundation will be providing full-paid scholarships for children to attend the camp. Applications for the camp may be found at the foundation website at There will be a limited number of spots for the camp, and scholarships will be provided for eligible applicants to the camp on a first come basis. 6 BBAC Policies Spring 2014 Registration You can register online for classes and workshops 24 hours a day at or call/walk-in to register during BBAC business hours. BBAC Members: Early Registration Privileges You can become a member at anytime. See page 53 for registration schedule. Costs for Classes, Camps & Workshops Costs consist of BBAC Tuition Fees (variable) and a per term, per student, Facility Fee of $10. Some classes, camps and workshops may also have a Materials Fee and/or Model Fee attached to it depending on the course of study. Cancelled Classes A full refund will be issued for any class cancelled by the BBAC. Tuition Refund Policy: Withdrawing from a Class Must be 7 days prior to the first day of class (or before.) A refund less a $25 processing fee will be issued. Must be 6 days prior to the first day of class, but not including the first day of class: A 50% tuition-only refund, less a $25 processing fee will be issued. There are no refunds on workshops or memberships. Class Transfers During the first week of classes, a student may transfer to another class offered during that term. There will be no transfer fee applied at this time. Only one transfer is allowed without a transfer fee. After the first week, or during the second transfer, a $25 transfer fee will be assessed. If applicable, all additional fees of the new course must be paid at the time of the transfer. Students may not transfer from a class to a workshop. Inclement Weather or Emergency Closings Due to inclement weather or an emergency, the BBAC will announce the cancellation of classes on its phone system recording at and website homepage at BBArtCenter.org. BBAC faculty and students are responsible to call and listen to the phone system recording to determine whether or not their class will be held. Class sessions cancelled for inclement weather or emergencies by the BBAC will be rescheduled whenever possible. Class Changes The BBAC reserves the right to withdraw or change classes, instructors or schedules; to revise tuition and fee structures; and to amend its policies as necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the institution. Promotional Photography Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center reserves the right to photograph activities, artwork and/or social events held on the BBAC Campus and at offsite locations. BBAC students, members, guests, and works of art from the studios or exhibition areas, can all be subjects of interest. Images may be used for BBAC s educational and promotional purposes unless otherwise notified in advance by any student, patron or visitor. Gift Certificates BBAC gift certificates may be purchased at the registration desk.
