Job description for the post of: Education Liaison Officer (UK Wide) EHA1364-0515 Fixed term until 31 st January 2017 Accountable to: Reporting to: Head of Student Recruitment Education Liaison and Events Manager Main purpose of the job The purpose of this role is to deliver a dynamic recruitment strategy based on sound evidence, business intelligence and best practice. The primary focus of the job is to develop, coordinate and deliver high quality student recruitment strategies and programmes of activity for schools and colleges which will promote the University brand and attract high quality students to the university. The postholder will work in a range of targeted schools and colleges across the UK developing productive and profitable relationships, with a specific focus on the North East, Yorkshire and Humberside, the Midlands, North Wales and Northern Ireland in order to increase awareness of the University in these areas and applications from individual institutions. The post holder will also support market extension activities across the UK. The role will involve developing productive and profitable relationships with the widest range of individuals and organisations in order to successfully promote existing and emerging provision at the University as well as providing support across the wider Student Recruitment Team. The Postholder will be a self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision and will also have the ability to effectively influence others to help in the fulfilment of strategic aims by leading, inspiring and developing effective informal teams and networks. It should be noted that the role will include a significant amount of travel and the necessity for overnight stays. As a guide, candidates should expect October and November, March and April, and June and July to be the busiest times of year as dictated by the Student Recruitment cycle and demand from schools and colleges There will also be regular evening and weekend events. The post would be suitable for a recent graduate.
Specific Duties and responsibilities: The postholder will lead, manage and deliver specific student recruitment activities, events and other initiatives in pursuit of the University's strategic objectives. Examples of such work include: 1. Using the school targeting plan, identify priority institutions with which to undertake school/college liaison work to raise the profile and awareness of Edge Hill University. Design and deliver strategies for individual schools and colleges to increase the number of applications from those institutions and to increase the conversion rate of applications to acceptances and subsequent enrolments; 2. Proactively building effective relationships with key external stakeholders, particularly local and national agencies, school and college staff, advisers and parents, demonstrating the widest range of communication, influencing and networking skills; 3. Successfully managing the relationship between Edge Hill University and a range of key strategic feeder institutions in order to support recruitment targets, making decisions to maximise the impact of work with those feeders; 4. Producing and delivering relevant and accessible presentations to a range of audiences, and designing and facilitating workshops on a variety of educational issues related to HE decision making and study at Edge Hill University; 5. Contributing to and organising a variety of innovative and engaging recruitment events including subject taster events, Preparation for HE events, bespoke oncampus visits and Residential events; 6. Attending school and college Careers and Progression Fairs to discuss courses, entry profiles, the University location, campus and facilities, and support decision making regarding A Level/BTEC options as well as HE applications. 7. Facilitating relationships between academic tutors at the University and teachers in schools and colleges; 8. Managing a range of activities with academic subject areas, setting targets, allocating resources and measuring the impact of projects through monitoring and evaluation; 9. Developing and preparing high quality information and training resources to support activity and initiatives 10. Providing supervision and offering effective support and guidance to Education Liaison Assistants and other staff assisting in the delivery and organisation of recruitment activities; 11. Recruiting, training, motivating and supporting university student ambassadors and volunteers; 12. Fostering effective and supportive relationships with recruitment and admissions staff in Faculties and administrative services across the University;
13. Evaluating and monitoring the effectiveness of projects and tracking the progress of the participants; 14. Acting as a key member of the Events Team at large university-wide recruitment events such as Teachers Conferences, Applicant Visit Days and Open Days 15. Leading strategically on a cross-team recruitment issue, supporting managers and peers by providing timely and accurate updates as required; 16. Contributing to the on-going implementation and development of the University's student recruitment strategy, policy and activities and gathering, assimilating and disseminating information which will inform policy, procedure and practice; 17. Contributing to the collation of business intelligence and undertaking regular benchmarking and evaluation activities 18. Producing reports and presenting to working groups and committees as appropriate; 19. It is expected that the post holder will work flexibly according to the demands and responsibility of the job, as evening and weekend work will be required. Candidates should note that the main focus of the workload of this role is based around school terms, and that there is a restriction on annual leave being taken during the period when national examination results are published, normally the third week in August through to the start of Edge Hill s academic year.
