1 Cambridge Judge Business School Further particulars JOB TITLE: REPORTS TO: MFIN MARKETING OFFICER (MATERNITY LEAVE COVER) MFIN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Background The Cambridge Master of Finance (MFin) is one of the premium fee degree programmes currently taught at Cambridge Judge Business School (CJBS). Whilst the MFin is a master s level qualification, it differs fundamentally from the existing MPhil programmes taught within the University. The programme design is more closely related to the MBA programme taught within the School and the fees for the one-year programme (currently set at 34,500) are also closely in line with MBA fees. Unusually for the University, MFin applications are not routed through the Board of Graduate Studies. As such the entire student recruitment workload falls to the MFin programme. At present the MFin generates annual revenue of approximately 1.6 million though admissions (which is anticipated to grow to 2.5million as future growth projections are realised.) The role The role holder is entirely responsible for managing and co-ordinating the marketing efforts of the programme to ensure that application numbers and subsequently student numbers are increased. The role holder also manages the MFin recruitment budget which is approximately 130,000. The Marketing Officer is entirely responsible for managing and co-ordinating the marketing efforts of the MFin programme to ensure that application numbers and subsequently student numbers are increased. The role holder is responsible for the production of marketing materials such as the brochure, website, annual media plan, advertising creative and arranging and attending promotional events. The role holder is also responsible for producing digital content, managing social media channels, campaigns, market research, managing the CRM and post-activity reporting and analysis. The role holder also supports the Admissions and Marketing Administrator with aspects of the admissions process. The role holder works closely with the Executive Director of the Cambridge MFin on marketing activities and frequently attends marketing events and information sessions. The role holder deputises for the programme s Executive Director in the areas of marketing. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic planning Formulates a strategy for the annual marketing/communications plan in consultation with the MFin Executive Director. Manages the implementation of the MFin marketing/communications strategy. 1

2 Marketing communications Manages all aspects of marketing and communications for the MFin programme to include: advertising, promotional events, online marketing, videos, newsletters and printed collateral. Liaises with other MFin functions, i.e. the Programme Team, to build promotional material and ensure marketing messages flow through entire MFin function and delivery. Researches and manages the information on the CJBS website for the MFin programme to ensure the information is current, accurate, applicable and easily accessible. Liaises with the Online Communications team to update the website as necessary. Writes, edits, creates and maintains new content for the website, ensuring there is a compelling flow of stories, digital content, videos and features. Manages the MFin social media channels to ensure they are kept up to date and engaging. Manages the MFin student blog ensuring there is a regular pipeline of student generated content. Supervision of the admissions process Provides guidance to the MFin Admissions and Marketing Administrator. Supervises the workload of the MFin Admissions and Marketing Administrator and provides additional help and support during peak admissions periods. The main point of contact for the MFin Admissions and Marketing Administrator to escalate issues or raise any concerns. Provides guidance and advice to the MFin Admissions and Marketing Administrator on key admissions decisions such as shortlisting, scholarship allocations and any other complex cases which arise. Assists the MFin Admissions and Marketing Administrator with scholarship allocations. Assists the MFin Executive Director with inducting new staff in the area of admissions and marketing. Delegates to the MFin Admissions and Marketing Administrator as necessary. Provides cover for the MFin Admissions and Marketing Administrator during any periods of absence., therefore a full understanding of the MFin admissions process is required. Relationship building and stakeholder engagement The main representative of MFin marketing within the department and wider University. This involves representing the MFin at the monthly Marketing Managers Meetings and other marketingrelated meetings. The main representative for MFin marketing with external suppliers. Manages relationships with and briefs external marketing suppliers such as advertising agencies, creative agencies, copywriters, video production companies and event organisers. Maintains strong relationships with current students and alumni to source ideas and support with marketing related tasks. Identifies and briefs market research suppliers as necessary and disseminates relevant market research to key stakeholders within the MFin team and the School. Deputises for the MFin Executive Director in all marketing related activities. 2

3 Events management The main point of contact and organiser of all MFin recruitment events. Plans the events schedule. Arranges and co-ordinates information sessions, both in the UK and overseas. This involves booking transport, venues, catering, shipping exhibition materials and liaising with internal and external stakeholders who will be attending the events, and also promoting events. Attends overseas information sessions, to represent Cambridge Judge Business School and promote the MFin at fairs both internationally and in the UK. This involves setting up the stands and being the only representative on some occasions. This also involves some overseas travel and working some un-social hours. Liaises with external event suppliers e.g. organisers of conferences and fairs to arrange exhibiting at events. Follows up with prospective applicants who attend events to ensure they remain engaged. Arranges and hosts online events for prospective applicants e.g. Skype webchats and online webinars. Research and analysis Produces reports, runs database queries and analyses admissions statistics to use for future planning regarding course development and future expansion. Conducts and analyses market research and competitor analyses to benchmark the MFin and marketing initiatives against competitors, for example competitor programme content, competitor website and brochures, and competitor promotional activities. This involves researching information from competitor s websites and brochures, collating this information and reviewing it to ensure that the MFin is strongly placed amongst UK and international competitors. Analyses statistical results from marketing campaigns to monitor effectiveness of campaigns and to inform future marketing plans/strategy. Presents admissions and marketing statistics to the MFin Executive Director/MFin Director to inform the overall strategic plan for the development and growth of the MFin. Runs surveys and focus groups with students and alumni to help to inform the marketing strategy. Produces a monthly marketing report outlining all marketing activity which has taken place that month, and analysing the effectiveness of the activities. This then feeds into the marketing strategy. Systems development and management Maintains a database of prospects (brochure downloads, enquirers, event attendees, in-progress applicants, purchased lists). Uses the prospect database to send regular targeted campaigns through dotmailer, with newsletters and invitations to attend events. Monitors the effectiveness of the campaigns. Uses admissions database (Hobsons ApplyYourself) to run reports on admissions activities and applicant demographics. Ensures the prospect database is regularly kept up to date and that the data is backed up. 3

4 Acts as the main MFin representative and member of the project team for the School s Microsoft Dynamics CRM project. Financial management Responsibility for the day-to-day management of the admissions and marketing budget (approx 130,000). Ensures that admissions and marketing goals are met cost effectively and within the budget allocation set for this part of the programme. Reviews admissions and marketing expenditure and adjusts accordingly in line with changing objectives and market conditions. Authorises expenditure within budgetary constraints for admissions and marketing and ensuring that financial regulations are met. Monitors expenditure against budgets for admissions and marketing. Issues official purchase orders for supplies and services. Sets and allocates the admissions and marketing budget with the MFin Executive Director. Feeds back to MFin Executive Director regarding budgetary matters. The person The ideal candidate should have the following qualities, skills and attributes. You are asked to demonstrate how your own experience meets these requirements in the suitability for the role section of the online application form. Essential Educated to degree level standard or with equivalent working experience. Professional marketing qualification e.g CIM or willingness to work towards. A high level of computer literacy and an expert user of MS Office software. Familiarity with computer databases; ability to input data quickly and accurately. Ability to manipulate data and to learn new and complex computer systems. Ability to work in and across teams as well as ability to work independently and on own initiative without supervision. Strong project management skills with the ability to think strategically, multitask, plan, implement, monitor activity and deliver to deadlines. Knowledge of the graduate admissions process and systems is highly desirable. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to represent the School, to make presentations, and to develop and build relationships with potential students, external parties and within the School. The ability to provide effective training and instruction to colleagues on changes within student recruitment, in which the post-holder will be the expert. Ability to work accurately and efficiently, independently and as part of a team to ensure effective flow of accurate and clear information. 4

5 Experience of working in a high level administrative role, preferably in both corporate and higher education environments. Experience of analysing/presenting statistical information to inform future resource planning. Experience in a marketing and/or recruitment role is highly desirable. Experience of managing/supervising staff is desirable. Ability to prioritise workload to meet multiple deadlines, forward plan and manage a number of tasks effectively at the same time. Organisational skills with the ability to work to deadlines and maintain this under pressure. Must be numerate for production of spreadsheets and the preparation and monitoring of budgets. Excellent written and spoken English with an ability to create promotional marketing materials. Willingness to work some weekends and to travel internationally. A high degree of discretion, as dealing with confidential information. A flexible approach to work. The ability to exercise a high degree of responsibility, judgement and initiative. The ability to quickly gain a thorough understanding of how the University operates and an understanding of the regulations, both internal and external, relating to the remit of admissions and marketing. Benefits This is a full-time position working 36.5 hours per week. Holiday entitlement is 28 days per annum plus eight days of public holidays. The salary will be in the range 27,328-32,600 per annum. This is a maternity leave cover for 12 months or until the return of the role holder. The full incremental salary range for the position is advertised in order to demonstrate the progression for the Grade. In the majority of cases appointments will be made at the Grade minimum; only in very specific exceptional circumstances can a higher salary be offered.
