The narrative methd is als useful fr setting the stage fr class discussins. Class discussin between students and instructrs is encuraged fr the purpse f develping in students the ability t speak befre thers abut curse cntent. Class discussins shuld arise frm the readings that students cmplete and frm pints f interest and the interpretatin f facts that emerge in class, especially thse relevant t students. Students will be required t cmplete written wrk r t prepare ral presentatins t further elabrate r explain what has been presented and discussed by the instructr. These requirements are designed t challenge the student t analyze and critique the material presented. The written wrk may be in the frm f essay test tpics, bk reviews, reprts n articles in schlarly jurnals, r ther written assignments as assigned by the instructr. Oral presentatins may be designed as debates, infrmative verviews, r persuasive mnlgues. Minimum requirements include the fllwing: 1.) Attend class in accrdance with cllege plicy and as stipulated by the instructr. 2.) Cmplete apprpriate reading assignments made by the instructr 3.) Cmplete apprpriate writing assignments based n the readings, classrm presentatins and discussin 4.) Cmplete ral presentatins (if assigned by instructr) 5.) Cmplete apprpriate tests (quizzes, majr examinatins, and a final examinatin) The grading scale used fr all tests, papers, and prjects will be as fllws: 90% t 100% = A 80% t 89% = B Administrative-Master Syllabus April 2013 Page 4 f 5

70% t 79% = C 60% t 69% = D Belw 60% = F Instructrs may als use a pint system t determine final scres as lng as this pint system is clearly utlined in the instructr s syllabus. All instructrs will give students a cmprehensive final exam which will cunt fr a minimum f ten percent f their final grade. Written assignments will cnstitute a minimum f 25% f a student s final class scre. Assessment will be cnducted using a variety f methds. Objective questins such as multiplechice, matching, true/false and fill-in-the blank will be used as will subjective questins which may demand narrative identificatin, lengthy narrative respnses, and als critical thinking. Students will be tested n materials presented in class and are expected t develp listening and nte-taking skills. The weight, style, and nature f the specific assessment tl are left t the discretin f the individual instructr, but each instructr must place emphasis n the develpment f writing and critical thinking skills. Balance in testing t accmmdate fr varied learning styles is the desired gal. VII.
