LEC participants will integrate cntemprary technlgy int teaching practices and learning activities using sftware, cludware, and resurces that serve curriculum bjectives and educatinal gals. This class includes bth theretical and experiential cmpnents; participants will explre research and examples f effective practices in nline instructin, but will als spend a substantial prtin f curse time develping educatinally meaningful and persnally relevant prducts t supprt their nline curse and their LEC prtfli. LEC participants can expect t spend 6 7 hurs f wrk per week fr the eight t ten weeks f the curse. The wrk will include: Reading curse materials and explring examples Cmpleting prjects and assignments including LEC eprtfli (electrnic prtfli) Sharing and reflecting with ther class participants in discussin frums. PREREQUISITE CHARACTERISTICS & SKILLS Leading Edge Certificatin learners shuld pssess the fllwing prerequisite characteristics and skills: Independent learner Self disciplined Average t advanced cmputer skills COURSE STRUCTURE This curse will be delivered entirely nline thrugh the curse management system Schlgy. Yu will receive an befre the first day f class with yur lgin infrmatin. In Schlgy yu will access nline lessns, curse materials, and a variety f multimedia resurces. Thrughut the curse, yu will participate in a blend f self paced and adaptive released (instructr paced) activities using Schlgy and alternative Internet based technlgies. The participants that tend t have the mst success in this virtual envirnment set aside a specific time each week fr their cursewrk. TEXTBOOK & COURSE MATERIALS There is n required textbk fr this curse. Everything yu need fr this curse will be fund nline. Students d nt have t purchase any materials, nr will any be sent. An ffice prductivity suite such as Micrsft Office r Apple iwrk is recmmended but nt required. A wider range f free alternatives, such as the Open Office suite f prgrams, Zh, ThinkFree Online, and Ggle Dcs, can be used as an alternative. A Ggle Dcs accunt is required; additinal free accunts with a variety f Web 2.0 tls will be needed as well.

Free nline accunts fr Ggle, ViceThread, Glgster, YuTube and ther Web 2.0 tls that emerge in the curse Current web brwser with apprpriate plugins Quicktime Player fr Mac r Windws Windws Media Player Flash Player Adbe PDF Reader Optinal: JingPr ($14.95) and Techsmith/Screencast (included with JingPr) accunt fr strage Web cam fr expanding yur presence within the curse CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS & EXPECTATIONS The Leading Edge Certificatin is a 60 hur (apprximate) curse f study, including the develpment f a prfessinal prtfli. T earn Leading Edge Certificatin, yu must successfully cmplete all cursewrk and assignments (activities, discussin psts, and reflectins) in accrdance with the curse calendar. Each assignment has a rubric. Mst students d well n their assignments because they knw what is expected f them. In additin t receiving a passing grade in all Pass/ N Pass assignments, each mdule (with the exceptin f the Intrductin mdule) has ne Prtfli assignment that students submit fr grading. These Prtfli assignments will be cmpiled and submitted in an eprtfli (electrnic prtfli). Like the ther curse assignments, each prtfli assignment has a rubric. The curse facilitatr(s) will review yur Prtfli assignments and prvide yu with feedback s yu imprve upn and resubmit them. Please remember t check fr feedback cmments frm yur curse facilitatr(s). Participants have ne year frm the start date f the curse t cmplete their prfessinal prtfli fr certificatin. All assignments fr this curse will be submitted electrnically thrugh Schlgy unless therwise described. Assignments must be submitted by the given deadline r special permissin must be requested frm instructr befre the due date. If yu find that yu have any truble keeping up with assignments r ther aspects f the curse, make sure yu let yur instructr knw as early as pssible. Make sure that yu are practive in infrming yur instructr when difficulties arise during the semester s that we can help yu find a slutin. Under emergency/special circumstances, participants may petitin fr an incmplete status in the curse, and resume at a later date.

4 REFLECTION ASSIGNMENTS Thrughut this curse yu will be writing reflectins that address tpics within the mdules. All f these reflectins will be transferred t yur LEC Prtfli at the end f the curse. Written reflectins are handled in a variety f different ways, including a persnal jurnal, r psts in a wiki r blg. Yur LEC instructr(s) will explain the preferred prcess fr yur particular curse. If yu already have a prfessinal blg, it is likely that yu will be able t use that t pst yur reflectins during the curse. All reflectin assignments shuld shw a thughtful cnsideratin f the tpic. Reflectins are expected t be written in standard English, and are typically wrds in length. Reflectins may include hyperlinks t utside resurces, embedded Web 2.0 tls frm this curse, and/r prperly cited images. PORTFOLIO T earn Leading Edge Certificatin yu need t successfully cmplete all cursewrk and assignments and submit a passing LEC Prtfli. Yur LEC Prtfli will be assessed by 3 educatrs 1 peer reviewer, yur curse facilitatr, and an additinal LEC prfessinal develper. These individuals will review yur Prtfli based n the fllwing 3 criteria: 1) Prtfli assignments will be assessed using the apprpriate 3 pint rubric. T pass, a scre f 3 needs t be achieved fr each prtfli assignment. 2) After all mdule prtfli assignments are assessed, a prtfli rubric will be used t assess the eprtfli as a whle. Again, a scre f 3 is required in each rubric categry. 3) Students will be given feedback n their eprtfli. If students dn't achieve a scre f 3 n their eprtflis, they will be given ne chance t revise and resubmit their eprtflis fr grading.
