Km. In north it is connected with Kutchh, in south with Bhavnagar, on west with Rajkot, while in east, it is bordered with Ahmedabad district. Total population of the district is souls as per 2001 census. There are 10 taluka in Surendranagar district namely 1.Wadhvan. Limdi. 3.Sayla. 4.Chotila. 5.Muli. 6.Halvad. 7.Dhrangadhra. 8.Lakhtar. 9.Dasada. 10.Chuda. Average annual rainfall of last decade is 536 mm. Geologically, different formation occurs in this area, such as alluvial patch, Wadhvan Sand Stone, Dhrangadhra Sand Stone and Deccantrap Basalt. Sayla and Chotila Talukas are having out crops of basaltic lava flows. Dhrangadhra sand stone is good aquifer but as far as, qualitative aspect is concerned, it is having high fluoride content. Northern part is covered by alluvial patch covering Dasada and Lakhtar talukas. Low lying area, which is situated in eastern part, is known, as Nal kantha, area, is highly

3 saline. Agricultural activity is not possible in this area. Wadhvan Sand Stone area is also highly saline due to its marine origin. 16 Predominant wind direction Winds are generally light and moderate in summer. They become stronger when westerly t southwesterly winds prevail during the south-west monsoon season. In October winds are from west and north east. In November and December winds are mainly from north-east direction. In January and February winds are again from west and north east directions. Method- Mining would be done through JCB/Loader machine which will scratch the upper surface and level the site manually once JCB/Loader work is over. Once the site is levelled, electrically

5 operated Horizontal and Vertical saws would be placed on the levelled mine site. Experience worker would than manually cut the levelled stone in different sizes. Wet cutting method involving spraying water onto the rotating cutting disk would be used to reduce dust emissions via spray heads or jets normally attached to opposite sides of the guard. An on-off valve is fitted to control the water supply with an in-line filter, often installed to prevent the heads becoming blocked. Once the required blocks of mined stone are cut as per the sizes, they are kept aside for loading.
