4 1.3 Green Belt Development Unit will carry out tree plan along the road side & periphery. 1.4 Power & Fuel Requirement Fuel: No Fuel is required in Mining activity. Energy: No energy is required in Mining activity. 1.5 Water Requirement and Wastewater Generation & Treatment The unit requires 9 M3/day of water. Out of this 8 M3/day will be used for purpose for sprinkling in dust generated areas for air pollution control and plantation areas. This will be drawn from accumulated mine water from sumps after settling. About 1 M3/day will be used for drinking water purpose and for use in office and other establishment. This will be drawn from Bore well (Nearby village). WATER CONSUMPTION SUMMARY Category Water Consumption (KL/day) (a) Domestic 1.0 (b) Industrial: Other (Plantation + Dust Suppression) 8.0 TOTAL (b) 8.0 GRAND TOTAL (a + b) 9.0 4
5 1.6 Air Pollution Source and Control Management The principal sources of Air pollution due to the project of stone mine are: Dust Particulates. (Dust may occur as fugitive dust from excavation & from haul roads.) Gaseous pollutants The sources of dust generation in the mine are: a. Extraction of soil by Shovels. b. Movement of HEMM, such as Shovels, dumpers etc. c. Loading and unloading operation, d. Soil conveying, e. Material handling operation in the Mining, Gas emission can occur as a result of: a. Emission of SO 2 from diesel driven mining equipments, compressors, etc. Impact: The Particulate Matter (PM10) especially that below 5 micron size is a serious air pollutant, which can lead to lung disorder and other diseases like Bronchitis, Emphysema, Bronchial Asthma, Irritation of mucus membranes of eyes etc. Mitigate Measures for Air Quality: The principal sources of air pollution in the area will arise from dust generation due to removal of soil by shovels, movement of HEMM, Material handling operations, wind erosion etc. Gaseous emission may occur due to operation of diesel driven mining equipments, generator sets etc. Above adverse impacts on air quality will be effectively controlled both by preventive and suppressive measures like keeping haul roads as per standards, blacks topping of permanent haul roads and service roads, frequent water spraying or sprinkling on the roads, periphery of mine, 5
6 However, the Air pollution from the mining operations shall be effectively controlled by, Material will be stacked at lower depth & at identified place. Regular water sprinkling is carried out. Development of haul roads as per the standards, black topping of roads wherever necessary to avoid or eliminate air borne dust. Development of green barriers around mine and around the industrial area, along the roads, etc. Avoiding overloading of dumpers. Frequent water spraying / sprinkling on the roads, stock piles, OB dumps and transfer points where dust is produced. Improved maintenance of machinery for reducing gaseous and noise pollution. Speed of the vehicles will be maintained within the prescribed limits. Condition of all trucks will be well maintained. Old age trucks will not be utilized. Only P.U.C. certified vehicle will be used. Provision of dust filters / mask to workers working at highly dust prone and affected areas. Using sharp teeth for shovels and other soil excavation equipment, and also periodical replacements. 1.7 Impact on Noise Quality Mining operations such as excavation, loading and dumping, activities etc. will generate significant noise especially in the work environments unless proper remedial measures are adopted. Prolonged exposure to a high noise level is harmful to the human auditory system and can create mental fatigue, rebellious attitude, annoyance, and carelessness, which may lead to neglect of work and also result in accidents. Noise will be produced due to operation and movement of Heavy Earth Moving Machinery, various other allied equipment and transport vehicles. The impact on the surrounding 6
7 population in the buffer zone will be minimal from propagated noise levels from the mining area, due to adoption of following control measures. 1. The operator's cabin of equipments like dumpers, shovel, etc. would be made sound Proof. 2. Proper and regular maintenance of equipments may lead to less noise generation. 3. Manufacturers of equipment will be advised to provide in built mechanism for reducing sound emissions. 4. Where noise level exposure is more, workers will be provided with earmuffs. 5. Regular health check up of workers will be undertaken. 6. Accordingly, noise level status of operational machinery may be displayed on the Machines to enable control measures to be taken in this respect. This will enable to know the extent of noise level and to control the time to which the worker is exposed to higher noise levels. 1.8 Hazardous Waste Management No any kind of Hazardous waste will be generated during mining activity. 7
