1 FACULTY OF SCIENCE The Post Project Coordinator Athena SWAN and Equality and Diversity Further Particulars (Ref: SC2835) The Faculty of Science (SCI) Athena SWAN group regularly reviews the status quo in their Schools of study and effects positive actions which promote a fair and supportive environment for all staff within the Faculty Schools. Athena SWAN activities form the practical part of our participation in the national Equality Challenge Unit s (ECU) Athena SWAN Charter, recognising commitment to advancing women s careers in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment in higher education and research. This charter has been developed to encourage and recognise commitment to combating this under-representation and advancing the careers of women in STEMM research and academia. In May 2015 the charter was expanded to recognize work undertaken in arts, humanities, social sciences, business and law (AHSSBL), and in professional and support roles, and for trans staff and students. The charter now recognizes work undertaken to address gender equality more broadly, and not just barriers to progression that affect women. Within the Faculty of Science, five out of six Schools have attained Bronze Athena SWAN accreditation, with the remaining School working towards submission in the next two years. While we are proud of this achievement, SCI requires administrative support to both assist Schools in their submissions and deliver some large projects over the next three years, as the Schools progress in their submissions for Bronze and Silver accreditation. 2 The Faculty The University has four Faculties which are: Science (SCI), Medicine and Health Sciences (FMH), Arts and Humanities (HUM) and Social Sciences (SSF). Each Faculty is led by a Dean, and comprises a number of Schools of Study, each led by a Head of School. This particular post will be based in the Faculty of Science which consists of the following Schools of Study: School of Biological Sciences School of Chemistry School of Computing Sciences School of Environmental Sciences School of Mathematics School of Pharmacy The University of East Anglia is proud of the increasing diversity of its campus and works with staff, students and organisations around Norwich, Norfolk, regionally and nationally, to achieve its aim of being an inclusive place for study and work. The UEA campus has a range of facilities to promote family-friendly working. We have a fully equipped dedicated baby change and feeding room with hand washing facilities, baby changing station, fridge, microwave, bottle and food warmer, and a medical bed for rest purposes. Baby changing facilities are also available in our campus coffee shop. The campus has a medical centre, a dental practice, and a nursery offering Ofsted-rated Outstanding' day care for children from three months until school age in purpose built surroundings with large outside play spaces. We also support a range of flexible working initiatives, designed to promote a healthy work-life balance as well as supporting staff returning from parental leave and career breaks. The precise duties will be agreed in discussion with the Manager. Person Specification The person specification for this post is attached as Appendix B. GENERAL Salary Salary will be 25,023 to 30,738 per annum on Grade 6 on the single salary spine. The normal expectation is that starting salary will be at the minimum of the advertised salary scale. Starting date The post is available from 1 April 2016 on an indefinite full-time basis. 4 Annual Leave Entitlement There is an annual holiday entitlement of 25 days plus statutory (8 days) and customary (6 days) holidays. Superannuation The post is superannuable under the Universities Superannuation Scheme. 7 APPENDIX A JOB DESCRIPTION REF: SC2835 Job Title: Project Coordinator - Athena SWAN & Equality and Diversity Grade: Secretarial and Clerical Grade 6 School/Department: Reporting to: Executive Dean s Office Head of Equality and Diversity Job Function/Purpose: The co-ordinator is part of a team located in the Executive Dean s Office in the Faculty of Science (SCI), reporting to Head of Equality and Diversity. The post-holder will work with the Athena SWAN leads in each Faculty of Science School, and the central Athena SWAN Project Officer, to provide administrative and project support for Athena SWAN bids and activities. Working with the Athena SWAN leads and related colleagues, the post holder will assist in progressing projects, be responsible for the development of action plans to support the delivery of Athena Swan initiatives and for ensuring follow up actions in relation to bids submitted are progressed and effectiveness monitored. Whilst focused upon Athena SWAN, the post holder will also provide support for wider Equality and Diversity projects and action plans, as required. Directed by the Head of Equality and Diversity s/he will be also be responsible for providing quantitative and qualitative data, and the design and development of reports in connection with Athena SWAN submissions. The post-holder also will provide secretarial support to SCI and School Athena SWAN, and related, committees. Main duties include: Co-ordinate and oversee Athena SWAN activities across six SCI Schools of study by: Providing administrative and project support to the Athena SWAN Leads; Work with the University s Equality and Diversity Office which leads on Athena Swan activities and submissions; Collecting, integrating and analysing disparate local data sets including the data generated from the annual staff survey; and using such data in the design and development of reports in connection with Athena SWAN submissions.

8 Preparing tailored and bespoke reports, and presentations for Athena SWAN Self-Assessment Teams/Schools and the SCI Executive team and inter-faculty groups as appropriate; Creating and/or modifying systems to record local School or Faculty information required in support of Athena SWAN, as well as other equality and diversity returns, for example, peer review, mentoring and appraisal activity and completion rates; Oversight of School Athena SWAN public relations and the maintenance of School Athena SWAN webpages and regular slots in the School ebulletin; Taking responsibility, with the relevant Athena SWAN leads, for the development in support of the delivery of School Athena SWAN Action Plan; ensuring follow up actions in relation to bids submitted are progressed and effectiveness monitored. Taking account of and reporting to the Faculty Athena SWAN Project Officer where Schools have same or similar actions that can result in more effective progress and use of resources if strategies are developed and adopted at Faculty Level Supporting School Athena SWAN leads in the drafting of Athena SWAN accreditation and renewal of status documents for SCI Schools (departmental award and accreditation); Co-ordinating and promoting training and other activities aimed towards developing the careers of all with particular focus on the aims and objectives the Athena Swan Charter, as well as that for other Equality and Diversity initiatives (where required); Engaging with Equality and Diversity and Athena SWAN activities across UEA, attending local and national Athena SWAN meetings, visiting other Higher Education Institutes to liaise with counterparts on best practice, and attending other meetings and conferences relevant to Equality and Diversity, including Athena Swan, activities as co-ordinated from the central Equality and Diversity Office. Whilst the role is to primarily focus upon Athena SWAN, the post holder, may at times be required to support a broader range of E&D activities taking place within each Faculty of Science Schools, and more broadly across the Faculty. The role holder will also be required to undertake any other projects which may result from the above work, and undertake other duties commensurate with the grade of the post as assigned by the manager.
