The post is for term time only. The vacancy in Student Services is for a flexible and adaptable person who is able to respond to the demands of an expanding and developing service. The main responsibilities include providing assistance for careers guidance to students and staff will involve: Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) via booked appointments IAG via drop in sessions Teaching on the careers education programme IAG for students with progression concerns (Level 2 and Level 3) Carrying out the relevant administration IAG to prospective students and their parents at College events The person appointed will need to have excellent communication skills at all levels, be confident and preferably have a knowledge of employment opportunities, education and the College. 2 Conditions of Employment General Conditions Contractual arrangements for this post determining conditions of employment are as agreed between the Sixth Form Colleges Association and staff representatives at national level. They relate fairly closely to the Local Government Conditions of Employment. Start Date This position will be available from 6 th January 2014 Status Temporary post in the College s Support Staff structure until 14 th July 2014 Hours of Part-time, hours per week, term time only, days and times negotiable. work It would be helpful if the successful candidate could occasionally cover absent colleagues and/or work additional hours e.g. Parents Evenings Pensions Holidays Pay Child Protection/ Safeguarding Equality and Diversity Disability Support staff will be automatically brought into the Local Government Pension Scheme, administered by Worcestershire County Council. Where the contract of employment is for less than 3 months, there is the opportunity to opt to join by completing an application form. As a term-time employee, the leave entitlement is paid as part of salary and all annual leave is taken during College holidays. Full year employees receive 25 working days plus 8 public holidays. There is an entitlement to an additional 5 days holiday after 5 years continuous service. The salary for 16 hours per week, term-time only, will be 8,267 ( 22,943 pro rata) based on point 30 of the sixth form colleges support staff salary spine. The salary for 24 hours per week, term time only will be 12,401. A candidate with significant relevant experience might be appointed to point 31 or 32 (23,712 or 24,478 pro rata). 3 Head of Student Services: Pauline Mason No. of staff: 8 Student Services benefits from the involvement of outside agencies, including health, faith, volunteering and financial support, plus a SGS PA (½ day per week). The staff of the College s Student Services section work as an integrated and flexible team to support the pastoral guidance and tutorial systems of the College. The main aim of the section is to contribute to the personal development of students through an expanding range of services. Currently its main priority is to enhance careers education and guidance, employer and community links and counselling. Student Services also supports the tutorial programme throughout the year and organises Careers, Employment and Higher Education Events for parents and students. Student Services offers a full programme of individual guidance interviews and support plus specialist extended careers programmes to support applications to a variety of professions. All students are given the opportunity to participate in Work Experience either as part of a vocational course or as an optional addition to their timetable to help with career decisions. A professional counselling service is available to all students and staff in the College. There is a dedicated room for counselling within Student Services. All counselling is on a self-referral basis although students may be advised to seek professional counselling. Student Services offers spacious, attractive and purposeful accommodation to students and staff. It has a very well stocked Resources Centre, a main teaching area with tutorial and consultation rooms as well as offices for staff. A drop in enquiry and reception service is available throughout the day. Student Services also works very closely with: Personal Advisers from Worcestershire SGS, the Worcestershire Education Business Partnership and the Worcestershire Primary Care Trust.

JOB TITLE JOB PURPOSE Responsible to Assistant Careers Adviser To offer guidance interviews to students and staff and to contribute to the provision and development of Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance. Head of Student Services MAJOR TASKS: 1 To offer guidance interviews to students on a self-referral basis and in response to staff referrals. 2 To offer drop-in advice and guidance in response to staff/student requests or referrals. 3 To teach on the Careers Education programme, evaluating lessons as appropriate. 4 To support students with FE and HE applications. 5 To have responsibility for progression interviews - Level 2 to Level 3. 6 To work closely with SGS Personal Advisers, Heads of Year and tutors in the support of students with progression plans. 7 To contribute to the organisation and promotion of careers events and other specific projects for which student services is responsible. 8 To offer guidance as part of Induction, Course Confirmation, Open Evenings, Parents Evenings and Higher Education Evenings as requested. 9 To carry out surveys regarding subject requirements for Higher Education courses and to carry out employment/apprenticeship and Higher Education research. 10 To establish, maintain and extend contacts with employers, HEIs and the community. 11 To advise staff on matters relating to Careers or Higher Education. 12 To contribute to the development of resource in Student Services. 13 To contribute to the weekly publication of the Student Services Newsletter. 14 To attend Student Services meetings as required by the Head of Student Services
