2 Introduction Eduroam is available at many locations around the UvA. Eduroam is a wireless connection to the UvA-net which allows you to surf the Internet on your laptop, read your s and access other UvA-net functions. Eduroam is available to UvA staff and students, as well as guests from other educational institutes. This manual will explain how to connect to eduroam. Important! This information is current at the time of publication (March, 2009). If you have any doubts about the relevance of this information, please contact the ([email protected], phone ). This information in this manual concerns Max OS X 10.5 (Leopard) update 6. Installations for other versions may vary. If you run a different version of Mac OS and need different instructions, please contact Servicedesk-ic ([email protected], phone ). Installing Eduroam on a Macintosh 1. Go to Apple-menu and choose System Preferences Then click on Network. 2. Select Airport. If Airport (The WiFi card) is disconnected, click Turn AirPort On. 3 3. Choose the 802.1X. tab. 4. Create a configuration profile by clicking on the + at the bottom left-hand corner (4a) and choosing Add User Profile. The field at the top will then display a profile called Untitled. Change this name into something obvious such as UvA- Wireless. (4b) 5. Deactivate everything except TTLS in the Authentication field. Next click the TTLS line and then choose Configure. 3 4b 4a 5 6. This will open a new window. Select PAP method in the inner authentication field. Leave the Outer Identity field empty. 4 7. Fill in your UvA-net ID in the User Name field followed For example: Please do not use your address but your UvA-net ID. Next fill in the appropriate password. Choose eduroam in the Wireless Network field. Please note: It can take a few seconds for the network menu appears as it is searching for available networks. Once it has finished, click on OK. 5 9. Enter the following at Network Name : the name eduroam. Then at Security, select: WPA2 Enterprise and click Add 10. When you select at 802.1X: UvA draadloos, the User Name and Password will be filled in automatically. 6 Connecting to eduroam 11. You can now choose the eduroam network in the Airport window and connect. You need to do this every time you connect or it will automatically connect every time after the first, depending on how you have set up the automatic search for recognised networks. It may take a while before the connection is made. 12. 7 13. Click on Show Certificate to open the certficate details. Check the box to with the text: - Aways trust draadloos.uva.nl Confirm the setting by clicking continue. 13 Additional information: A new certificate will be linked to the UvA wireless network (eduroam and uva) as of 4 May This certificate is called GTE CyberTrust Global Root.
