1 Configuration Instructions for non-tcd users of the eduroam service This document contains configuration instructions for visitors to Trinity College Dublin wishing to use the eduroam service. The configuration instructions provided below are meant to serve as a guideline only as implementation details for your home institution will determine the exact configuration steps to be taken. It is crucial that prior to visiting TCD you should: Confirm that your home institution supports authentication from external institutions participating in the eduroam service. See the eduroam website: Consult with your own institution s eduroam documentation. Note that eduroam technical support must be provided by your home organisation and is not available from IS Services in TCD. Consult for the most common configuration settings for a variety of mobile devices. 2 Generic configuration instructions Operating-system-specific instructions are available further on in this document. On this page is a list of generic settings which should be used for other operating systems. SSID: the SSID for eduroam is broadcast on the TCD wireless network. The eduroam SSID is eduroam and is case sensitive. If you do not see this SSID then you may need to specify it manually in the Wireless network properties. Encryption: TCD uses WPA2-Enterprise with AES for encryption. Visiting users must have their wireless cards configured with these settings to use the eduroam service within TCD. Authentication: eduroam authentication requests are forwarded to your home institution. The specifics of your client EAP/authentication settings are as per your home institution please refer to your home institution for these settings. Username and Password: The domain name of your home institution must be specified when entering your username for authentication. The syntax to use is [username]@[domain] e.g. jbloggs@myuniversity.ie 2

3 Configuring Windows 8 1. Consult with your own institution s eduroam documentation 2. Go to the desktop 3. Click the Network icon on the bottom right corner of the taskbar near the clock, as below 4. Click the eduroam SSID and click Connect (check Connect automatically if you wish) 5. Enter your credentials a. User name: Enter your username in the following format [username]@[domain] e.g. jbloggs@myuniversity.ie b. Password: Your password 6. You may receive the following certificate verification message; Click Connect 7. You should now be connected to eduroam network. If you are having problems please contact your home organisation. Support for eduroam is not available from IS Services in TCD. 3

4 Configuring Windows 7 and Windows Vista 1. Consult with your own institution s eduroam documentation. 2. Go to the desktop 3. Click the Network icon on the bottom right corner of the taskbar near the clock as shown 4. Click the eduroam SSID and then click on Connect (check Connect automatically if you wish) 5. Enter your credentials: a. User name: Enter your username in the following format [username]@[domain] e.g. jbloggs@myuniversity.ie b. Password: Your password 6. Select Change connection settings and then choose the Security Tab on the Wireless Network properties window 7. You should now be connected to eduroam network. If you are having problems please contact your home organisation. Support for eduroam is not available from IS Services in TCD. 4

5 Configuring Mac OS X 1. Click the Airport/Wifi icon and choose 'Join other network' and configure as follows: a. Network Name: eduroam (case sensitive) b. Security: WPA2 Enterprise Username: [username]@[domain] e.g. jbloggs@myuniversity.ie Password: Your password c. Tick the Remember this network check box. 2. Click Join. You may get a series of prompts as follows: a. If you get a message referring to 802.1X Authentication enter your username and password and click OK b. You may get a further prompt to Verify Certificate choose to Show Certificate and check the box beside Always trust "eduroam" before clicking Continue Note: Consult your home institution documentation for authentication settings as they may differ. If you are having problems please contact your home organisation. Support for eduroam is not available from IS Services in TCD. 5

6 Configuring Mobile Devices Configuring ios Devices 1. Open Settings 2. Click on the Wi-Fi icon to bring up the Wi-Fi Connection Pane 3. Select Other, and enter the following settings: a. Name: eduroam (case sensitive) b. Security: WPA2 Enterprise c. Username: e.g. d. Password: Your password 4. Click Join 5. Accept any certificate-related messages Configuring Android Devices 1. Tap the Menu button on your handset and select System Settings/ Settings 2. Under Wireless and Networks select Wi-Fi/ Wi-Fi Settings 3. Select eduroam and enter the following settings: a. CA Certificate Unspecified b. User Certificate Unspecified c. Identity e.g. d. Anonymous Identity Leave this blank e. Password Your password 4. Select Connect Configuring Windows Phone Devices 1. On Start, flick left to the App list, and then tap Settings icon > Wi-Fi. Make sure that Wi- Fi networking is set to On. 2. Tap on the eduroam listing and enter your credentials in the form: User Name: e.g. Password: Your password * If you receive a connection unsuccessful message at this point, please see below for manual connection steps. 3. Tap Done. You may receive the following security warning: If you expect to find eduroam in this location, go ahead and connect. Otherwise, it may be a different network with the same name. 4. Tap Yes. You should now be connected to eduroam. * If you receive a connection unsuccessful message, you will need to add the network manually. In order to do that: In Wi-Fi settings menu tap advanced Type in the network name eduroam (case sensitive) and tap add. Sign in with your credentials in the form outlined above and tap done. You should now be connected to the eduroam. 6

7 Removal of eduroam Network Configuration Settings. In the case you are no longer planning to connect to eduroam, you should remove eduroam network configuration settings. You are recommended to do this as otherwise you may experience unwanted wireless access, device performance issues, or decrease your user account security. Below are instructions for removal of eduroam network configuration settings. Windows 8 1. Go to the desktop, click on the network icon near the clock on the bottom right hand corner of the task bar 2. In the pop up list, right click on the eduroam network and choose Forget this network Windows 7 and Vista 1. Click Start, Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center, Manage Wireless networks 2. Highlight eduroam in Networks you can view and modify and click on Remove. OS X ios 1. Click the Wifi Networks icon / Airport located in the upper right corner of the task bar 2. Select Open Network Preferences 3. Select Wifi in the left hand pane 4. Select Advanced in the lower right corner 5. Select the eduroam network 6. Click the - icon to remove this network 1. Open Settings 2. Click the Wi-Fi icon to bring up the Wi-Fi Connection Pane 3. Tap the arrow icon next to eduroam network 4. Tap the option on the screen which says Forget this network 5. Confirm to delete eduroam Wi-Fi network settings Android 1. Tap the Menu button on your handset and select System Settings/ Settings 2. Under Wireless and Networks select Wi-Fi/ Wi-Fi Settings 3. Long press eduroam network 4. Tap forget Network Windows Phone 1. On Start, flick left to the App list, and then tap Settings icon > Wi-Fi. Make sure that Wi- Fi networking is set to On Toggle control icon 2. Long tap eduroam network 3. Tap delete to remove network 7
